There really isn't one. Your best bet is to just try out all of the vocations and see which one is closest to your ideal playstyle and stick with that. They're all equally viable.

I wouldn't be so sure that its impossible, just not very likely. We got dedicated folks right now modding games that shouldn't be moddable like Battlefield 3 and Just Cause 2. If a decent sized community pops up around this game, you better believe there will be a few dedicated folks will try and find a way to do crazy stuff if its even possible to do it.

This is off-topic, but what do you mean people are modding Battlefield 3? I wasn't able to find any more info on that. You can PM me if you'd like.

wait was it confirmed we can choose that song on day 1? I thought we'd have to mod it in

The game was leaked by a reviewer. People who have that version confirm that we can manually put Into Free into the game already.

On a side note, people have also put the Guts armor sets back into the game.

The mod's already ready. Turns out the title screen music file is just an OGG file renamed!

If someone who is very familiar with this game and is willing to be a kind Samaritan. Please message me, I'd like some help and input with a minmax build before the game come out.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Minmaxing in DD is a bullshit waste of time.
And i speak from personal experience.

Wasted 40 hours minmaxing, and got minimal gains, never again.

I wouldn't really recommend it. Hard mode is really geared more toward having a badass character build, then getting your shit wrecked from there. It's basically meant just for new game plus.

If you're really eager to have a hard time of it, make a mage and go exploring. :3

Ok thanks I might try on hard and see how it goes, if I keep gettimg wrecked I'll just start a new game or turn the difficulty down.

What does minmaxing mean, exactly?

you minimize undesired stats and maximize desired stats to gain the best version of a certain class. Think like Souls games where a certain build is based around a weapon so you pump points into that stat.

In the case of dragon's dogma an example that people would say, if you absolutely have to, is to go warrior >> assassin because the stats you gain as warrior aid you more than going strider/ranger >> assassin

But as others said, don't even worry about it ESPECIALLY for normal. DD is a game meant to be played however you want. The only boss battle you might struggle in is a post-main game boss battle and even then it's doable.

Min-maxing is the practice of playing a role-playing game, wargame or video game with the intent of creating the "best" character by means of minimizing undesired or unimportant traits and maximizing desired ones.

Well that one is pretty easy just go 1-10 as Fighter and then change to Assassin forever, but yeah everyone should just play however they want, it's not worth it.

Main issue of min maxing with Dragon's Dogma is you will generally want to minmax the stats growth by using either Sorceror or Assassin for their int/str growth for max damage output, however doing so also makes your character the worst at the opposite gameplay. Which means it severely limits you options, and while you'll be able to swap saves for profiles on PC, probably, it'll be annoying. Meanwhile if you just make an average character, you're not the best at anything but you can switch from warrior to magick archer to whatever with no real difference in power level.

Ultimately the difference is also small, and the way it's done ruins most of the game, you either have to play assassin/sorc the entire time, so that's better be your intended class, or you have to grind with them until you vastly outlevel everything in the game, which then makes whatever class you pick boring since nothing is challenging anymore.

It's really not worth bothering, just like it isn't worth bothering making a larger character for the stamina reduction if you don't want to play one, or looking up every quest before you do them so you have 100%quests done on the first playthrough when the achievements involve replaying the game anyway.

So I can go straight into Magick Archer and not suck?

Yes. Classes have generally stats growth fit for their usage. but hybrids like mystic knight and magick archer tend to be great for first chars since they get balanced stats in everything, so they'll make great chars to switch to any other class you feel like later on.

Yes. Or you could use a base class for the entire game and not suck. Minmaxing in DD is completely unnecessary.

That being said, you get some nice carry-over abilities between the classes, so swapping around isn't a bad idea.

I played through the game but can't even remember how the upgrade system worked. I'm sure it will come back to me, but why would you not want to upgrade certain stats over others?

that's what I heard and was planning to do, but I don't really want to play warrior even for 10 levels. I'm a bow dual knives motherfucker.

no no, you can still try to somewhat plan your builds based on logic. Aka use a bow based beginning class and go to magic archer, or start with mage and go to magic archer.

Folks are saying is don't stress about what is the optimal path (aka do one class till lvl 8 then another till 15, go back to this class till 20, then reach your end class or some bull) Just play the game because the results from min-maxing are not worth the extra effort one puts into it.

From what I remember playing on Playstation, you get over level 6 before you even create your main Pawn if you do the quests so it shouldn't be a problem.

You don't choose your stats upgrades. Each Vocation has its own stat growth so you can only control it by being a certain Vocation at the time of levelling up.

Which is very anti-fun and completely useless anyway and not how anyone should play the game.

But a bow dual knives motherfucker can benefit from Clout, Bastion and Proficiency... ;)

Unless they fixed the auto targeting I wouldn't go for this on a first try. The way the skills work with the magick bow makes it hard to hit the weak points you want.

Hmm I disagree with that, the whole system can be annoying on some specific enemies and specific weak points, but Sixfold bolt or Explosive Rivets are both fairly accurate and in some cases more accurate than normal bow stuff, and unless you're absolutely averse to it, you can always just immolate yourself, jump on the monster then poke it with your dagger while you burn it. In fact it'll die faster that way most of the time.

Intelligence is less useful for a warrior than it is for a mage, vice versa for strength(true for most RPGs). So, if you make stat growth favor strength or favor intelligence and not dump any stats into the opposite stat, you're maximizing your character. That's the general idea behind minmaxing... But it's completely unnecessary for Dragon's Dogma.

That is, specifically, the reason why I have a high degree of interest in this game.

I understand that minmax build aren't as important in this game. But please humor me, if I start out as a Strider. Which hybrid vocation will probably be best? Assassin or Magick Archer? What is your preference and why?

From my research online, it seem like most people enjoy the Assassin vocation the most, follow by Magick Archer and then Mystic Knight.

So general idea is to switch to some of Hybrid vocations because there are more fun to play? What about Advanced vocations? And after which level to switch?

I played through this once on normal difficulty when it first came out on consoles, I never bought the DLC. Would it be worth starting my PC run on hard mode? What are the differences?

So besides using discipline to unlock new skills, is there a menu anywhere to use when you level up or is it automatic? Unless I'm just blind I can't seem to find it.

There's no menu, you only go to the NPC to unlock new skills/augments when your vocation rank goes up. Levels just give you stats automatically depending on the class you are when you level up.

Switch when you want(well after 10 since you can't before), play what you want. The hybrids tend to be a bit more varied in playstyle so they fit more people, but advanced or even basic vocations are good too. Just not mage, that's pretty meh(later on, it's fine to start with, just doesn't scale well cause it's mostly support spells so it gets boring).

Half of the advanced vocations are the Hybrid vocations you're talking about. The other half are variations(in spirit) on the base classes.

And, no. You have the wrong idea. Every vocation has pluses and minuses to them, and they're all fun to play. Switch whenever you feel like it(once you're level 10 and have them unlocked).

For example, the direct advanced class of the fighter is the warrior. However, they're very different, in that the Fighter is a sword and shield class with tanking skills and the warrior is a 2-handed weapon wielding badass that's more vulnerable than the fighter.

Has anyone that checked out the leak commented on mouse/keyboard? I am trying to decide between Magick Archer and Mystic Knight. If the m/k setup is solid I will probably go archer since aiming won't be a chore.

This game's autosave system is perhaps the most useless I've ever experienced in a game. Holy crap please remember to manually save. All the time.

Apparently things like hiring pawns and defeating giant monsters don't qualify as enough of an event to trigger an auto save.

People have, and they say the M&K controls are the best they've seen in a japanese game.
