Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

i cannot understand your standpoint, and it also seems like youre trying to rile people up.

$20 for this game is a steal.

I bought the 360 version for $10 at Walmart (no sale/coupon/promotion/etc) about a day before they announced the PC version because I (and various others here on GAF) assumed a PC version was never coming. I haven't heard anything about additional content other than the usual 108060. And to hear that content was removed from the newer version?

I'm not trying to rile people up, I'm just concerned of getting duped.

Still seems pricy.

It's $40 on PSN and ~$20 for a new copy on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B59MXGY/?tag=neogaf0e-20), plus has support for 4k, 150fps cap, etc.

Could easily be sold for $40 with HD or Remaster slapped on the end of it. I think $30 at launch seems reasonable, and 25% off is a great deal. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die was a similar port (game+DLC bundled for PC release), but without any res options and a 30 FPS cap, and iirc was sold for $40 at launch.

But I mean, if you wait another year and you'll probably be able to get it for 50% off.

I'm a big fan of RPG and somehow missed this. I pre-ordered it. Don't let me down guys.
Going by your avatar, go in with a different mindset as the gameplay is whats praised here and that the story is silly/not anything to write home about. Personally dragon's dogmas combat is the most fun action rpg combat I've ever played

Well for starters your info is wrong. It is not capped at 1080p.

The Berserk-themed items are not included due to the licence expiring, and similarly there will be no Japanese audio. No actual content was removed from the game.

I should be fine I play plenty of jRPG with passable story and I like those ;)

I'd argue that what story there is, is actually pretty good. The stuff that happens when you finally meet the dragon again and beyond are the shit, especially when you add in the BBI portion of the narrative. Not amazing, but good.

The real issue with the story is that, for most of the game, you seem to make no progress in it even while doing the main quests

I understand why they removed the Berserk items and I'm not bothered (on the contrary I'm super excited for this), but small as they are I think those items count as actual content, even if it affects basically nothing.

The story is okay but intriguing at the end. Combat is easily the best I've ever played in an RPG. The most unique thing about the game though is the pawn system. I really enjoyed developing my pawn and was so proud the first time she was used by another player and came back with a nice rating and a bunch of rift crystals.

That's understandable, but to be clear, the underlying point is that the campaign hasn't changed -- there are no missing regions/characters/quests/what have you. Unless you're (as in the royal "you") a Berserk super-fan or something of a purist when it comes to Japanese games, it's still very much the same game albeit with some improvements.

You're definitely right on that. To be honest, the only change that'll irk me is the continued lack of "Into Free" as the title theme... but thankfully that's what we have alt + tab for.

All purchased now. $30AUD isn't too bad for one of my favourite games. The first game that got me into trophies too!

I expect a fix for that to be the very first mod, haha.

It would be nice if someone would point us in the right direction as soon as the mod is available....

I'm slowly starting to think dragon's dogma is my favorite game franchise. I'm way too hyped for this to come out.

Pre-ordered!

Man, I'm so stoked for this game. I had already played and beaten the vanilla version on the PS3, and I just couldn't pass up the chance to play Dark Arisen with much improved performance. This port is actually one of the many reasons that pushed me into building my own PC lol.

My understanding is that the game shouldn't be hard to get it to run at a decent framerate hopefully this is the case because I recall people being surprised at the minimum requirements for PC

you can turn off pawn chatter and there are item hotkeys now so no more pace breaking menu usage

if you haven't played deep into the game then I'll say that that hotkey addition removes one of the major flaws of the game- for more challenging stuff item usage is very common and important. so bringing up the menu every 10 seconds becomes real annoying real fast

so you expected them to make a pc port and then ask 10 bucks for it?
I am sure you can get it for 10$ at a sale and not feel duped, probably at the summer sale.

I always wanted this feature when i originally played the game.
But now i cant see myself play without the chatter and i think i am actually looking forward to hearing the pawns again... Its weird...

Strangely enough the press build has japanese voiceover option

They explained they tried to get the licensing stuff done until the last moment and that's why originally on the steam page it had japanese audio and stuff, but they couldn't get them so they had to drop it, which is why the press version still has it since it was made before they had to cancel their plans I guess. Might have the berserk stuff in it even, which means it could be possible to mod it in assuming one of the press version ends up being leaked.

It seems like you've already duped yourself.

It's also not capped at 60 FPS (which is more unusual and worthy of praise, while not capping resolution is just worthy of not shaking your head ;)).

I remember hearing that as well, but I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't wanna say it. Didn't want to give out potentially wrong information like the guy I quoted

Kinda hope someone will mod them in

I kind of want to pick this up, But I'm making it a point to play through Witcher 3 first (while I'll only do after I finish the novels, which I just started), for fear of DD combat ruining my W3 experience D:

Sorry for double post, but how big of a feature is the online aspect?

It's interesting, you do not interact with any other people only share data.
You have your main character (the one you control) and a main pawn (computer controlled); both of which you create, customise, equip and are in full control of growth.
The online component allows you to recruit other player's pawns; a maximum of 2 at a time, for a total party of 4. When another player recruits your pawn (they take a copy), your pawn gains experience, knowledge of quests that player completes and monsters they fought, as well as potentially receiving a gift item. All this information is updated when you rest at an inn. You can also rate pawns based on their usefulness, looks etc.

There is more to the online component such as the Ur-Dragon (a post game boss) which players have a chance of fighting and doing some damage to, everyone works together to try and defeat the dragon in their own game, to get rewards for everyone that fought it. I'm not fully informed of the specifics of the Ur-Dragon, it's not that important.

Being online or making use of the online components are not necessary to completing the game but having a balanced, full party makes it much easier. It's very simple and unobtrusive system, there is no interaction between people, the perfect 'online' game for antisocial people :P

Can you set your pawn to not be able to be recruited?
