E3 2005: SONY STRIKE BACK! PS3 WILL BE AT E3!

OH SNAP. There goes MS's campaign for E3 domination. Considering how spent their campaign is already before the main show... and now it looks like SONY + NINTENDO will play their cards.

BEST EEE EVER!

Today is my best day on GAF in days. Funny, exciting and all that. Love it.

Would be a dumb idea for them not to show off something PS3 there. TGS this year will likely show off games, I'd imagine. About 6 months between the two systems (X360 November '05 US and PS3 March-April '06)?

I smell something similar to the PSP E3 unveiling.

Claims of a battery pack conspiracy? Rumors that the PSP was just acting as video monitor for the secret PS2 behind the stage? :lol

most people assumed tech demos. But this is very good news. Better news would be "hey guys, we'r launching ps3 US first, christmas 2005". :D

PS3 no Like Xbox360....PS3 Destroy!! Destroy!! Ahhhhh!!! Destroy!!!!

No thanks, I'm going PS3 next gen largely because I think MS is rushing towards it too fast. The Xbox out of all three systems had the most life left in it, and I think MS would have been better served to either launch the same time as Sony or even shortly after (six months tops though). Giving the Xbox, a very capable system, only a 4 year life span turns me off from MS' consoles because I don't want to buy a 360 at launch only to have them release a new system 4 more years down the road, when the 360 is just seeing its potential being reached.

again, showing the design is genious. It tells people the behemoth is coming, and to be patient. But it doesn't have to show games yet.

As for clay model, they'd just print a 3D one out and show that. Clay is so old fashioned :)

It'll be an empty case behind glass, that's my guess. Though it could be nice to have functioning units, even with non-final hardware..

heh, im sure nvidia could pump out one or 2 prelim chips for the demo unit. Whether or not it would be wise to use em in a live event is another story. :)

and god help us all if Polyphony decides to give us a taste of GT5. I just hope that IF they do decide to show games, that the launch date won't be TOO far off.

ys that Laki? expectin any of those titles to hit an xbox near you? won't be happenin. like i said, the only megaton here will be the fact that there won't be any.

They were able to put together the GT2000 demo in 2 weeks so you can basically count on there being something of GT there. I wouldn't expect it to be released anytime soon though. I'm not really expecting it to 2008 actually.

2008??? I sure as hell hope not. I mean w/ all the data they already collected makin the first 3, the only real work they have left is updated graphics, physics/collision and online (which they should have going already). Regardless, im sure they will release when good and ready.

Consider that their main goal with GT4 was to perfect the physics engine and that took them 4 years to do. According to Imasaki whenever they added the damage model to the series they weren't going to release the game till it was right. So i'm really not expecting it anytime soon.

No offense but Enthusia kills GT4's physics. In my opinion the best they did with the Gt4 was the new ambience in the new tracks.

I meant no way those titles will be shown at E3, I have no doubts that they'll be released for PS3 though

Expect a series of 30-second teasers which doesn't even show much gameplay.

I'd be hella surprised if they end up showing the hardware...

I'm expecting it at launch. Pressure from Sony > desires to play with physics blah blah perfectionist.

The car design work they did with GT4 hopefully included way more data which would be suitable to use for a PS3 version. So they should be able to turn around the data quickly, then just work on the engine.

That'd be way too fast with them launching next year. That'd be the fastest any GT sequel had ever been released. And considering how much they'd be adding to it, online, car damage, it just wouldn't turn out right.

No way will GT come at launch. They'll wait until the audience is big enough for it to sell a million. Look at what happened with Hot Shots Golf on the PSP. It's always been a million seller on the PS, but it only managed to pass 300k on the PSP. Of course it's good to have system sellers, but they must preserve some sense of dignity too.

but in the early days you need system sellers more than software sellers.

How soon after PS2 launch did A-Spec come out? That should give you an idea of how important software volume is to Sony.

Online is nearly done already (only just got pulled fromm GT4). Leave damage out for now. I'm not talking about a sequel, more a placeholder until the proper 5 comes out.

Good ol' Sony. They just need to keep reminding everyone that the wait will be worth it and it's Dreamcast land all over again.

Around a year. But you've gotta keep in mind that the difference between GT4 and 5 is going to be alot different than the one between GT2 and GT3 so its going to take longer.

I expect a GSCube shaped case with a generic PS3 font on it. No tech demos, or games to be shown. Perhaps preliminary specs will be released. Maybe a few game announcements. It's still a year away from Japan launch and even further for US and Europe. So not really expecting much at all. Well except lots of boring slides on how well the PSP and PS2 are selling, some future forecasts, boring speech by Kaz Hirai, etc.

Since when was PS3 being shown at E3 news?

Well Folder I think there's been discussion on actually how much of it will see... the external case design? Just some trailers? In game stuff? This seems to be leaning towards the PS3 having a more substantial E3 presence than most folks initially thought.

I think the 2ch rumor thread was the one that brought doubt about whether the PS3 hardware would be shown or not. According to it the PS3 was behind schedule so the actual hardware wouldn't be at E3.
