EarthBound (SNES) is releasing on Wii U VC... TODAY!

Consumers have the right to complain. By letting companies know what they want they can cause change which could result in lower prices or more titles being released.
You have a right to complain. I have the right to reply that you really shouldn't complain as you couldn't legally play this game for $10 before today. Period.

Bought mine for 250 in near mint 3 years ago. They sell for 450 right now. Earthbound is not even a rare game, its just that its too in demand. With the VC, the price might go back down to 200$ which for a boxed with manual copy is okay in my opinion.

I don't think the wiiu has sold well enough to really nuke the price of the cartridge. I really want it for the collection though.

Maybe if Nintendo had also released it on the wii and 3ds, then tons of more people would have been able to get it cheaply.

Sometimes you just have to tell it like it is.

Yeah man, telling people they're idiots because they aren't willing to bend over is totally telling it like it is.

And like I said I don't care what the price of that cart is. It's overpriced, and this is aswell, but if you want it that's fine. Has nothing to do with me.

Steam games are often free or over 50% off retail value. I mean, they have full retail games from last year for sub $5 already.

Both PSN and XBL have deep sales too from time to time. I bought some titles for as little as $2 earlier this year.

Then wait for a sale then.

We get it you think $10 is too much, but your opinions don't reflect everyone's.

You're absolutely right. Except the stupid people in this case are those that think that the cartridge price does/should correlate with Virtual Console price. But I guess it's more of a bad case of rampant fanboyism.

EarthBound was also released at a slightly higher price when it was released for the SNES, I do believe.

$10 is now "bending over"? Get your head checked.

Sale pricing happens on the Virtual Console too. What's the day to day value of the games on Steam, typically? It is most definitely not free.

I own 179 Steam games. I got maybe two of them for free.

I'm sure you know they range from $0 to about $49.99. However, due to the constant deep sales, that outdo any of the console makers specials, the majority of games slip to incredibly low prices withing a year.

Well Earthbound VC is currently at least 90% off the current market price elsewhere.
It's still overpriced digitally though.

I played it for free legally. I borrowed the cart from a friend.

And then there are those people who are just trying to ruin a thread. Everyone does not have the best of intentions all the time.

Well, this released "today". (In a sense, of course.)

It's a swell game that is definitely worth paying an extra $2, in MY opinion. I guess it is because I wanted to own a copy of it myself for quite some time now, instead of borrowing it from friends. >.<

It's $2 more. That's like two apps on your phone, a value meal, two video rentals, etc. Not too bad for a game and a strategy guide.

Feel free to check out how the other SNES games are priced on Virtual Console and report back your findings. Is it hard to understand that some people are upset because Nintendo put in a fuck you tax just because they could?

Seriously! I really can't wrap my head around how some people are outraged at the price.

If this was on the 3DS VC I'd happily pay $15, even $20 for a game I haven't been able to play since way back when I was in elementary school.

$10 is a friggin' steal, and people need to chill out.

I mean they just added extra 2 dollars on top of already expensive $8 just because they could. I'm having hard time justifying that.

How much did it cost when they released it in Japan earlier?

30 Cents from the Eshop promotion, but the game has never been re-released in the West. I don't see a problem here at all.

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm very surprised at the amount of venom directed at those that think $10 for a SNES VC release is a high price.

Listed at £6.99 on the UK eShop, though it's not up just yet. Looking forward to replaying this with my SNES classic controller!

Is it cheaper than eBay prices for the physical cart? Absolutely, but the fact that Nintendo is charging $10 bucks for a SNES game in 2013 (albeit a SNES everyone with a Wii U right now will buy) when the going rate for all other SNES games on the VC is a couple bucks less is really underhanded.

The same as every other SNES game. Nothing about Earthbound makes it heads and shoulders above other classic SNEs games like FF3, Super Metroid, ALTTP, Super Mario RPG, etc.

Woah, woah, woah.
Is Super Mario RPG on the e-Shop? O.o
Serious question, for sure.

Yeah, but those didn't come with the PLAYER'S CHOICE GUIDE. :D lol

Guys, you get the full, unique, and great strategy guide for the extra $2. For God's sake. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Nobody is "fucking" anybody.

My whole thing is like... people think old games don't hold value. I don't know, I just spent like $150 on five Famicom carts. $10 for a convenient digital download of a game that hasn't even been on the service before seems fair to me. *shrug*

It isn't a straight rom dump. They added the strategy guide.

Maybe that isn't worth the extra 2 bucks to some people, but that's why it's more. It's not a "hurr hurr, fuck you fuck you fuck you" tax. It's because you get more and because more work was involved.

Nothing except the fact its value on the collector market is super high and people haven't been able to get it any other way since the dawn of digital online videogame sales...

Price and demand go hand in hand.

It's $10. Ten. Not $100 or more. It's TEN! How many of you work for Sony or Microsoft? Seriously. There just isn't any other explanation for this bullshit.

I know its available on the Wii VC. Not sure about the Wii U.

Other expensive titles, like Harvest Moon and The Megan Man X sequels, didn't receive an increased price. Neither did rare PS1 games when they were released on PSN like Xenogears or the Suikoden games.

Are you saying you would prefer that all games be free or similar prices to iOS?

Would I prefer? Of course I would fucking prefer because I'm a customer. But I'm also trying to be realistic here. Now I don't think it would be unrealistic to say that not all SNES games for example are worth $8. Some might be (for example Earthbound) but not all. Tiering the prices using platforms was a bad idea from the start and I have no idea how they decided it was a good idea to carry it on Wii U.

For other improvements how about universal Virtual Console? Buy once and be able to play on Wii, Wii U, 3DS and future Nintendo platforms.

If that was true then we would have seen other prices for SNES games previously than $8. It just isn't and you're for some reason having difficulties understanding the situation.

Like it's been stated, unlike other VC releases this one comes with a digital copy of the player's guide, mimicking the original SNES release... which was also sold at a slightly higher price.

Would a choice between an $8 version with the game only and a $10 version with the game + guide have been nice? It sure would, and it sounds like a great idea to me, but that is something that needs to be taken to NoA, not calling out people who have been fighting for a VC release since 2006.

YEAH! Also, lol @ all of the "Why can't I buy Earthbound on my 3DS!?" whiners in my Twitter feed. Let me have some exclusive fun on my Wii U for once!

The only one with the difficulty is you. You want something you can't have unless you pay $2 more. Hell, I don't even think you want to buy it in the first place. You're just here to troll the thread, and yeah, I fucking let you succeed because people like you need to be called out on this stuff. It's asinine.

Wait a second...that $10 INCLUDES a virtual version of the strategy guide???

SERIOUSLY!???

And people are complaining about the $10?

I must resist the urge to be really rude, here. Holy blue fucking hell...people are spoiled brats sometimes.

I'll go check my 3DS eShop and sit there and stare at it until Earthbound magically appears...

No. The strategy guide is here:
http://earthbound.nintendo.com/playersguide/
All you get is a URL.

Oh no! I'm looking at the strategy guide without buying the game? Where should I send my $2 to Nintendo? Alternatively, can I delete it from my browser history to get my $2 back?
