The only one with the difficulty is you. You want something you can't have unless you pay $2 more. Hell, I don't even think you want to buy it in the first place. You're just here to troll the thread, and yeah, I fucking let you succeed because people like you need to be called out on this stuff. It's asinine.

It has nothing to do with the $2. I was going to buy the game and I could do so still but I won't because this is yet another case of Nintendo acting like an asshole. You should really think before you write. Embarrasing to say at least.

No. The strategy guide is here:
http://earthbound.nintendo.com/playersguide/
All you get is a URL.

Oh no! I'm looking at the strategy guide without buying the game? Where should I send my $2 to Nintendo? Alternatively, can I delete it from my browser history to get my $2 back?

Even better. This fucking company.

It isn't a straight rom dump. They added the strategy guide.

Maybe that isn't worth the extra 2 bucks to some people, but that's why it's more. It's not a "hurr hurr, fuck you fuck you fuck you" tax. It's because you get more and because more work was involved.

Do they make mention of the strategy guide on the eShop listing? I'm at the office and can't check but the website listing sure doesn't.

If they are going to charge a premium for additional content, such as a digital Player's Guide, it's in Nintendo's interest to let the customer know exactly what they're getting for their money and why they are being charged as such.

Other expensive titles, like Harvest Moon and The Megan Man X sequels, didn't receive an increased price. Neither did rare PS1 games when they were released on PSN like Xenogears or the Suikoden games.
Harvest Moon and Mega Man X2 didn't include the Miiverse stuff. They didn't include a strategy guide.

Sucks about the price point, but hey, it's Earthbound we're talking about here. It's €10,- or 200+ on eBay. Dat marketing though...

Oh well, time to retire my physical copy, never to be touched again. You have served me well.

Whatever...it's still a fantastic deal for a game that has become increasingly difficult to obtain legally and at a reasonable price.

People who are here complaining about $2 over regular SNES VC prices have me absolutely flabber-fucking-gasted.

I don't even...

I don't know, I haven't looked at the listing. I'm going by what people are saying here. I'm sure someone else will fill that void for you.

However, I do know that they've added the 'import' charge for titles before without stating specifically why the games cost more. For instance, Dig Dug for NES is 6 dollars instead of the usual 5, because that game was never released domestically. But they don't state that that's the reason for the price increase. So, even if the 2 extra bucks is for other reasons like royalties and such, they're not going to say that's the reason on the eShop listing.

PS1 prices are variable on the PSN store, some games are more expensive than others... why do people are making a fuss about this right now?

I don't even...

Funny part is that it's only difficult to obtain legally because Nintendo is really so incompetent. Like we learned before the legal issues didn't exist and Nintendo just has no clue about anything.

If that was true then we would have seen other prices for SNES games previously than $8. It just isn't and you're for some reason having difficulties understanding the situation.
Have you ever looked at the Wii eShop? It has a decent amount of games that are $1-2 greater than normal. Like double digits worth. Did you complain when they were released? Do you even care about them? I've seen this brought up several times to you with Sin & Punishment, but no one seems to care about this argument. Also, take note: S&P isn't a game in high demand, and neither were Fantasy Zone and whatever other stuff they charged more for.

List of games that are more expensive in America, some of which Nintendo did no work on whatsoever:
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure, Puyo Puyo 2, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, Dig Dug, Gley Lancer, Super Fantasy Zone, Break In, Star Parodier, Cho Aniki, Final Soldier, Digital Champ: Battle Boxing, Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou, Bomberman '94, Detana!! TwinBee, Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair, Pulseman, Secret Command, Street Fighter II': Champion Edition, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Ironclad, Ufouria: The Saga.

With the way Earthbound has been released by Nintendo, you could put it in that category, especially since they added a guide with it. When they rerelease these games for Wii U VC, they will still retain their elevated prices, I would bet.

Because this thread involves Nintendo in some way. If they hadn't upped the price by two bucks, we would be getting flooded with "Not until you join the real world and get a modern account system, Nintendo!" posts instead.

I love Earthbound and I will buy it as soon as I get a Wii U, but it's really sad that Nintendo is
charging a premium for it. It feels like they charge more because they know that the loyal and passionate Earthbound fans will buy it regardless. It's disappointing.

The strategy guide is a nice bonus, I guess, but since Nintendo already charges more for old emulated games than anyone else in the market, I honestly don't see why they should charge even more when their premium priced games come for a change with a premium item.

It's not really a bonus. You're paying for it.

At least before with Nintendo they've asked for premium for games that never were brought over. I don't remember that being the case with Earthbound. You listed a lot of games that have nothing to do with Nintendo except that they happen to be on their platforms. Publishers have an autonomy to price their games how they wish to an extent.

Because this thread involves Nintendo in some way. If they hadn't upped the price by two bucks, we would be getting flooded with "Not until you join the real world and get a modern account system, Nintendo!" posts instead.

Both completely valid complaints and that's something some people have troubles to grasp. I don't understand why.

The Miiverse stuff that's available in every other SNES VC game? The strategy guide that's a link to a PDF?

Expectation. Nintendo has always had very consistent prices for VC titles that were released in the U.S. on their original console.

$10 for a 19 year old game you can only play on the Wii U and you lose if something ever happens to your system.

Awesome.

Oh noez!!1111 WII R G3TT1NG GIMPED BAI NINTENDOZ.

Guys, I understand the $2/£1 increase hurts so bad, but please live with it. :)

Love that people complain over $10.

It costs people time to put these games up, and it's not as simple as dropping a ROM in and clapping your hands.

Time is money, and oh also, Nintendo is a commercial enterprise and wants to make money.

$10 is DIRT CHEAP compared to what it costs you to get that game nowadays.

I can't wait to buy this game - would have bought it at $15.

So just because it's a Nintendo game you're willing to let them screw you over? Good on you.

Screw you over? Earthbound is worth a lot more than $10 to a lot of people. If it is worth $8 to you but not worth $10, then congratulations I guess. Don't buy it.

Both completely valid complaints and that's something some people have troubles to grasp. I don't understand why.

Yeah they're valid complaints but god damn how many times do we have to hear them?

10 dollars is a rip-off, seems like par for the course for Virtual Console

When I first thought of the VC, I figured it would be amazing. It's just sad

Releasing games on their newest console is bullshit?

I am reminded of parents asking why they don't release games for the PS2 any more.

IIRC Wii still gets Virtual Console releases. Why is this on Wii U only? Because Nintendo is too incomptent to produce new content and they desperately try to make everything that's possible to avoid sinking the platform.

Yeah they're valid complaints but god damn how many times do we have to hear them?

As long as they're valid? How fucking difficult this is to comprehend?

Steam games are often free or over 50% off retail value. I mean, they have full retail games from last year for sub $5 already.

Both PSN and XBL have deep sales too from time to time. I bought some titles for as little as $2 earlier this year.

Eshop has getting some sweet deals in the last year as well? Do the people that are complaining about sales even own Nintendo consoles?

Yes. I'm currently playing SMT IV. he asked if Steam gave away games for almost free and the answer is yes, yest they do. As do other console makers.

As long as they're valid? How fucking difficult this is to comprehend?

I'm not having difficulty comprehending anything, I'm just expressing that I'm tired of the constant whining. This case is especially funny to me because our lives are ending over two dollars.

eShop only gets "sweet deals" (honestly they suck) because publishers are allowed to price their products how they wish. Nintendo refuses to "devalue" their software hence please look forward buying Game & Wario for 40€ as long as their servers are up.

Yes. It IS that simple.

Zero testing involved... not a single person had to put time into checking to make sure the software was compatible, not a single person had to have a meeting about the game, legal risks, or check out to make sure the copyrights were valid still, not a single person had to put marketing materials together.

Total costs man, not just software.

PSN:
Final Fantasy 7: $10
Twisted Metal: $6
Persona 2: $10
Klonoa: $6

No price equality, or whatevs.
More money for games people will buy.
Now, can we stop the dumb arguments and play the games?

Earthbound fans will buy it regardless.

How is this difficult to understand? You answered the question yourself. And why is anybody surprised? You expect a corporation to intentionally provide a high-demand product at below market value just to be nice? If fans will buy it then it is by definition not overpriced. Sure, I'd like Pikmin 3 to be $10. It's nice to want things.

Yeah, what the heck. They threw the strategy guide in for free back in the '90's, now they are charging another two dollars for it. I don't even get scratch and sniff cards with this one.

I hope after all the crying to get this game people stand up for what is right and choose to not buy it. Let's send Nintendo a message that we won't put up with these extra charges for a game that we want. Next thing they will be raising there sale prices on Wii U VC games to $.35 instead of $.30, just trying to nickel and dime there fans since they no they can.

Sarcasm, will gladly pay $10 for this so I can put my cart up and play anytime on the controller. Won't even have to get out of bed to play. Fantastic.

Exactly. I didn't hear this complaining when FF7 was released.

Well this thread is going just as well as when it was announced for VC. Such toxicity around this game haha.

I debated whether to apply the $30 credit from SMT IV to the 3DS or WiiU. I put it on the 3DS. I fully expected Earthbound to come out in November or later.

It will be interesting to see what has changed in the game. Has anyone gone through it to see if the Beatles/JBG/BT references have been removed?

no, they didn't... Earthbound was like... 10 dollars more expensive than the rest of the SNES games
