So I did something similar to Kyle and Bloodborne but with Berserk. I read it while listening to Ouendan's soundtrack (JPOP). It was one of the first mangas I ever read, and while it's not horror, it was too much gore porn for me. At the end I realized it just wasn't my cup of tea, even if I liked the anime/golden age arc.
The parents and games thing: During the PS1 era I was into mini golf games, which were mostly mini games in licensed games. My late father who never played video games agreed to try one, and he made it look like he was actually into it. However the next day I asked him to play and he was like: "I'm good" lol. It made me happy regardless.
My technologically challenged mother on the other hand felt offended every time I suggested that she tries any video game. Even during the Wii craze when everyone, including her, was impressed with Wii Sports she would never touch it. Fast forward to her receiving an iPad as a gift and playing on it regularly without realizing she is essentially playing video games ¯\_(ツ
_/¯ I did get her to play Monument Valley and Tomb Raider Go and she loved them.
About Super Mario Run, I'm into it. Ben mentions missing secret walls and such and I hate those things, I just love the movement in 2D Marios. I played so much original NSMB just playing random levels trying to keep my momentum by jumping on enemies/wall jumping etc. Run does have a bit of that. The colored coins are very addictive too.
As for Pokemon, Ben and Blood touched on something I always had an issue with. I love Pokemon the creatures and the franchise, not the games. Despite being there from the start, I've only beaten X and Moon. I always get lost and realize I'm not invested in the mechanics nor the story to continue. I'm more invested in the reveal of new Pokemon and looking at their art. This time I tried to not look at any new Pokemon before I met them in the game, and while it was exciting, I couldn't help but get disappointed at a Pokemon that I spent a long time evolving only for its Pokedex entry to read "Known for its sexy legs" :/
But anyway, S&M wins my "Worth the Wait" GOTY award since we've been waiting for such a Pokemon game for a decade
Really too bad that Huber doesn't follow One Piece?
I'd be so curious about his thoughts on so many moments in that series. So many emotions!
Given how he gets emotional with Naruto I bet he would like One Piece if he got into it.
