Psst- they gave Mega Mans 9 and 10 the same score. These weirdos are blind to nostalgia :P

Any other Edge readers amused about this when you think about Time Extend and Making Of...?

Every month I'm more and more convinced that the people who make Edge read their own magazine :/ Take that to mean what you want.

Its not made in the UK though :lol

But doesn't Edge review games move moview review than technical review?
If you mean is it more of a subjective opinion than a product review, I'd say more so than most, but not entirely.

As for British bias, such bullshit, is it so hard to believe that English people might see more appeal to something that is made by British people who have similar tastes and senses of humor etc? There is something very distinctly British about games like LBP, GTA, Fable etc, something that could easily be missed by people outside of the country. Of course this should be reflected in reviews. Is an Englishman likely to react the same way to something like Dances with Wolves as an American? Of course not. People don't highlight an American bias in all American press for everything that is American, because it is not a bias, it is a case of media input and influence on the reviewers life.

It's too much to debate without a major derail I don't want to cause, but a lot. It's very much America as perceived by an Englishman. That's not to say it's the case in all English games at all though, the three I mentioned are very English to me as is something like Heavenly Sword, but something like Burnout Paradise or Motorstorm aren't very English to me at all.

After reading about how Rockstar handled the GTAIV review (making reviewers play in a room with Rockstar PR watching/commenting), I'm not even going to bother with RDR reviews.

Is it that way this time though? Rockstar could afford to be as bullish as they wanted with GTA4 because it was always going to be an insane hit, regardless of quality, that's not the case with RDR, it's not an established IP.

KP did the same shit with MGS4, I wonder how common that crap is.

EDIT: Been doing some research, I don't even think Edge is scoring British games that high:
Haze got a 5/10 which is 5% lower than the Metacritic score
Heavenly Sword got 6/10, 19% lower than on Metacritic
Fable 2 got 9/10, 1% higher than on Metacritic
Burnout Paradise got 9/10 2% higher than on Metacritic
Batman AA got 8/10, 11% lower than on Metacritic

Interesting. Perhaps you should compare some non-English games as well for context, considering Edge generally are thought of to give lower review scores than most.

Also, I didn't think I could get more excited for Mario Galaxy 2. Becomes almost a deconstruction of the 3d platformer genre?! Man!

Yeah, I had a look at some of that, their scores are strange for everything often, strangely higher, sometimes lower. It's hard to pick random games to check. If you consider their 10 scores, I'd say a higher percentage are British than there should be considering how prolific British developers are, but that is in keeping with most publications I believe. GTA4 and LBP for example got great scores from pretty much everywhere.

But most importantly, as I said above, I would expect an English publication to have more favorable scores for British games, but not because of bias, because of taste. British people like British things because they're made by British people who have shared the same cultural input. It doesn't surprise me a lot of Americans think the American Office is better than the English one. Because the English one is very English, the American one isn't.

I guess a 7 isn't too bad but it is a little disappointing to see Alan Wake didn't turn out better. Makes the sting go away a little bit for not having a PC version I suppose.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 10
Cave Story – 8
WarioWare: D.I.Y. – 8
Sin and Punishment - 8

Hell of a month for Nintendo. Lots of great games to choose from right now. and of course, TWO incredible must-haves.

thats a great score for Split/Second, better than I expected after the demo.

That's what I thought initially, but Edge have a history of giving 8+ scores to
British-developed
racing games.

LOL, people still take this magazine seriously. It's the IGN of print.

If you're trying to make a terrible first impression, then congratulations.

Well so far the actions of their PR haven't exactly indicated otherwise
Major bullshit if true. Although, I'm not sure PR are actually the people who decide when the press get review material and under what circumstances they have to play it. I've heard terrible things about gaming PR, mostly relating to them not actually knowing all that much about the product in hand. The quotes do imply the product is shit, and they therefore need to pressure people into being scared of slagging it off, but I very much doubt RDR's quality being poor. This isn't nearly as bad as some of Ubisoft's bullshit, or even worse Konami's MGS4 review rules. But still, it's very bad form all round.

Rustymonke, who is in your avatar, looks like Joanna Newsom in the MGMT video.

The "sucky review bullshit" is very common and I really don't get why media needs to highlight it in special cases like GTA4, when it happens to a lot of AAA games that release. But I guess it's a good story, and cannon fodder for the "GTA4 overrated" crowd.

An impressive assault on the truth, well done. I couldn't write that without my computer crashing out of shame.
