That seems interesting. Like they were trying to shake something off.

dear God what a nightmare, that is like the worst dream Ive ever had.

Well not necessarily that but maybe shake off someone(s) trying to get into the cockpit.

After 9/11 cockpit doors were secured. I assume other airlines took that precaution. If that were the case, I would expect a fairly sharp, but controlled descent to 10,000 feet followed by a distress call.

The sequence of events doesn't seem to match a hijacking. It's more like serious mechanical failure or a bomb.

And no, an airliner isn't going to evade any missile or fighter either.

Key point is the loss of contact. Whatever happened, happened quick.

CNN reporting that EgyptAir is now stating that they have found the wreckage.

Not sure if this means they found the fueselage. Wouldn't that be halfway to the bottom of the Mediterranean by now?

Let's not forget the very remote possibility of the pilot just deciding to ditch the plane as with that Germanwings flight.

Ugh, this is terrible. And seems way too close in time since the last big plane crash :(

RIP to those lost.

The fact that these types of incidents are still big worldwide news every time they happen should indicate how infrequent they are. Imagine car crashes getting front page news every time.

Well, a car crash killing a hundred people would surely dominate headlines quite some time.

But yes air travel is still exceptionally safe.

The fact that it's more people on a single vehicle makes it sensationalized but car crashes worldwide must kill dozens of people on a daily basis. Still, no daily headlines of "10 car crashes kill 25 people".

Car crashes in Texas alone result in 10 lives lost per day. I can't imagine what the worldwide numbes are.

Except airplane crashes are considered disasters. They potentially can wipe out whole buildings when they fall. shred bodies into unrecognizable muds. And with the fear of air, it becomes news worthy. There are atleast 20 notable crashes every year. A car crash is nothing compared to air disaster.

RIP to those who passed away in the tragedy, and condolences to the families.

I'm putting all my cash on act of terrorism. Only time will tell.

I don't know why but I find it hilarious that EgyptAir is flying Family members of the French passengers to Cairo, just hours after their another plane fell on the same route.

I can't imagine what these families are going through. My deepest condolenses.

If this turns out to be terrorism I hope they find everyone involved and throw them in dark hole for the rest of their miserable lives.

Not quite sure hilarious is an appropriate turn of phrase.

How would you expect them to get them there?, canoe and a horse and cart?

According to cnn, us officials believe it was a bomb though they still haven't found concrete evidence. If that were the case I'm surprised no terrorist group has claimed the attack yet. Maybe it was a lone wolf, or it was shot down from somewhere else.

No funnier than taking a car to the funeral of a car crash victim really.

I would have booked them tickets on another airline to be honest, as a courtesy.

So terrible. RIP. What horror. Although, if it was a bomb there was likely a rapid fall of pressure, which would mean it's unlikely anyone was conscious for very long. So they probably didn't even have time to realize what was happening, and almost definitely didn't experience the final crash. A tiny bit comforting, perhaps.

Isnt this the same airline that last year had a copilot crashing a 200 passenger airplane on purpose while chanting something about Allah?

I mean at this point how can we discredit any possibility...

I'm leaving from Paris on KLM (never flew them or heard of them) to the US...should I be worried? This will be my second flight in my life and horrible things like this give me anxiety...

You have nothing to be worried about, mate. I am equal parts fascinated with air disasters and have massive flight anxiety, but flying is overwhelmingly safe. KLM, like most major airlines, is a great airline and very safe.

Your flight will go off without a hitch. It's saddening to hear about these tragedies, but you have to keep in perspective how many flights take off and land safely every day.

My advice is pop some xanax if you have it or have a few drinks at the terminal if it helps you relax, then just enjoy the flight and bring something to distract you if you can't sleep. I find talking to the passenger next to me, if they are receptive, also helps.
