My experience basically xDAny advice on how to avoid that annoying "flurry" attack from Melania? (the one where she jumps around and slashes appear around here...that does massive damage and she does 3 times in a row)
I spent like an hour and a half trying to kill her yesterday and she killed me with that one move pretty much every single time, the only times I've reached her second stage are when I lucked out and managed to avoid it.
When she does the build up and I'm at a decent distance I can sometimes avoid it by just running away but she usually does it when I'm really close to her.
The only one I can consistently avoid is the second attack.
My experience basically xD
I ended up using the Ash of War : BloodHound Step. When she does her move, just spam L2 and you'll be invincible.
I think you can also throw a freezing pot at her when she jumps to start the move. It will trigger Frostbite and stagger her, cancelling the move.
There is also a precise method to dodge each flurry but I don't know it.
This move makes what could have been an awesome fight, a frustrating fight.
Not bad but frustrating to get kill by a extremely difficult to react move.
Earlier today I was watching a French YouTuber do the Bloodhound Step and it was working quite well for dodging the waterfowl dance! Unfortunately it only takes one mistake to get destroyed. Poor dude streamed for nearly 3 hours without beating her.My experience basically xD

I spent 20 hours on her... Wanted to beat her solo, without changing my build. Where do you get that ash of war?

It's dropped by the Night's Cavalry (night boss) on the bridge just next to Lenne's Rise (in Caelid, Dragonbarrow region)
Guilty !There's something to say for sticking it out for 20 hours out of sheer principle. It's also a bit stubborn OCD esque.
Guilty !
It happens often in Souls game for me. I have a build in mind and I always stick to it no matter what. It's usually fine but in Elden Ring, it's different. The game is based on adapting so...
In first playthrough, I always want to beat every boss solo, that's why I was so stubborn on her.
Now I experiment with the Spirits and it's good fun too . There are still some fights I enjoy more doing them solo.
Seppuku is one of the ashes arts you can associate with the Uchikatana. It eats a bit of health but massively increases you damage output for a while - key for keeping ahead of Malenia’s healing. Also, Mimic is able to use it independently.Yeah my Dex is low and I don't even have it yet it seems. Isn't it the very long one?
I used it in DS3 for a while I think. Anyways it's great you're able to give It an ash, tempting.
How do you do a seppuku ?
First or second stage? Joking, I dont think Astel has a second stageJust had Astel at 10% health left. But she pulled her infamous ace.
I have read it triggers at 70% and 50% so if you anticipate those thresholds and start running away that may help. Of course if she regains health that may trigger it again.Any advice on how to avoid that annoying "flurry" attack from Melania? As annoying as that move is, it's often an all or nothing situation and a lot of the tactics are the same for her: dodge towards her. She lunges forward with so many of her attacks that rolling or even running backwards is the road to death. I've been down that road. Don't do it. Once you get the timing and distance down, you'll be fine. Dodge through Waterfowl and she will be attacking the air behind you.Any advice on how to avoid that annoying "flurry" attack from Melania? I should warn everyone that a +9 Rivers of Blood ash of war Corpse Piler will cause bleed faster than Blood Nagakiba/Uchigatana +25 with Seppuku ash of war and has slightly longer reach all around. It costs more MP though. Only thing faster is probably Bloodboon Ritual on Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear, but that one takes too long to activate, lacks stun, and lacks poise (besides requiring high arcane investment to wield).
On Malenia Cold infused armaments work faster, and Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War is dirt cheap FP wise and stuns twice.
I am so with you. Actually, my main issue is really the flurry attack. Could have been a really tense but fair fight. But here, as you said, it feels cheap.Ok finally beat Melania, though in the end I caved in and just used Spirit Ashes. Had her down to like 10% health in her second form, then she used that attack where she sends those humanoid forms and before I could even use an estus she hits me with the annoying flurry attack at point blank..... so I just said fuck it and started using ashes on my next attempt (still took like 10 lol). Guess I could have kept at it for another 5 hours or redone my build to something specially effective against her but, honestly, I don't need the "gamer cred" and I wasn't enjoying the fight too much.
She's by far the hardest boss in any FROM game, and I'm sure some people beat her easily. But unlike other hard bosses in their others games she just felt kinda cheap to me, fast, lots of hp, hits hard and heals herself with each attack, have to take her down twice in a row with full health bars and she hits you with that annoying, extremely hard to dodge flurry attack.
Hum I don't remember mentioning farming in The Haligtree.Might as well ask DelireMan7 when you referred to farming in The Haligtree. Was it at Millicent's site of grace's area?
Hum I don't remember mentioning farming in The Haligtree.
The most known spot to farm is in Moghwyn palace, at the "Palace approach ledge-road" site of grace. You can easily kill all the Albinaurics there for a decent amount of runes. I think you can also trick, with a bow, one of the big birds in the lower area to fall to his death granting lots of runes.
I usually don't use farming method so I don't know much.

I am close to the end of the game on my current character. From the beginning I wanted the weapon and Ash of War of one of the last boss (Spoiler warning ! Godfrey, the First Elden lord), so I purposely avoid the 3 big hidden bosses : Placidusax (the Top2/3 best bossfight of the game for me), Mogh and the secret medallion stuff that ultimately leads to Malenia; like that I have some content to tackle with my new weapon and Ash of War.
I am curious to see how it's going against Malenia since I am fatrolling this time.
Just beat Maliketh and after the third time I defeat him, I can affirm that I don't like this boss. It's just an annoying boss fight to me. He hits like a truck (and I have around 1900 HP) and just never stops moving/attacking. Me being fight rolling and using slow colossal weapons, it was really tedious to get some hit.
I used Nepheli Loux's spirit but it was still annoying. I know you can have this item to allow you to parry him but it only works on very specific attack. I could parry him at the end, and it lets him open for a long time, allowing me to finish him. But damn ! Really tedious fight each time.
Had to revert to my good ol' +25 Ultra Greatsword with Lion's Claw and bloodflame. But I finally succeeded.
(Not my picture)
Now off to off the Ulcerated Tree Spirit and help her to end her quest.
Even looking at the glintstone projectiles, you start with pebble and arc. One is the repeated projectile, the other is a penetrating spell that hits groups nicely. All of the upgrades are either slower or less cost efficient. Then you get Night versions, and there's only a couple but that's all you need because enemies don't dodge them. You trade a small amount of power for being able to actually hit the input reading bastards. So is it me or is late game magic kinda "meh"?
I get there's some cheap tactics like downing an enemy, drinking the infinite mana Wondrous Physick and blasting them to oblivion with Meteorite of Astel or Comet Azur while they recover. But other than that the damage on these late spells usually doesn't seem worth the cost.
Like Loretta's Mastery looks awesome but after all the slow buildup the damage is laughable. Even stuff like Ranni's Dark Moon, which also looks awesome, doesn't seem worth it when you can do the same damage in half the time with half the mana cost using something like Glonstone Cometshard twice.
I’m 150h deep, around L160. Did all the questlines except for the mansion table one which I somehow cocked upNice going man. How many hours do you have? All those quest lines... Brrrr
Well done !I think I will finish my journey on Sunday. Only have the final boss left. Got all the achievements, cleared everything.
Is there a chance to save and travel after finishing the last boss? So that I can save scum and get the three required endings?
I didn’t enter the dragon door yet, by sheer luck I was there too early. I also have the needle.Well done !
You can save after the last boss and travel I think. You can have the 3 endings by save scumming like that BUT one can be a bit problematic. Are you under the influence of the Frenzied flame ? Did you reverted it ?
Ok so you're good.I didn’t enter the dragon door yet, by sheer luck I was there too early. I also have the needle.
I think Patches' stuff is slightly broken, the safe way to do it without killing him is to let him get you. You get the gesture and he stays alive, even though you're supposed to get it without anyone dyingDidnt read anything Melania related. I only know of one frustrating move.
Man. Did some speed running which made a ultra super mega mob to chase me so I died. Spent 40 min looking for a sacrificial twig, ended up following That trickster Prick's quest line but the postuee grovel? Didnt do shit so I had to kill him. 1 fucking twig. So yeah. Fingers crossed.
I must have tried for about 5 minutes before I let him kill me, I got a full gesture off at least 5 times before I gave and Googled to see that it's a common problem.Patches! Yeah the name escaped me. Yeah must be broken cause I groveld 3 times while that asshole kept poking me. But twice he interrupted the gesture but the third was complete. I think? Some take very long and his constant poking made it almost impossible. Regarding that other option. I was multitasking fextra on the side but got frustrated and said well enough is enough. The experience was quite cathartic.
How about your time put in? Or you rather don't say? That's fine as well man =)

My first play through was somewhere in the region of 200 hours, and I'm currently just under 592 according to Steam but actual playing time is probably closer to 550
I stayed as blind as possible until right near the end when I needed to know little bits here and there. Did as much as I could by myself, then looked up dungeons I missed because there was no way I was going to check the whole map again for catacombs and caves I may or may not have missed.Heh. Always good to know it isn't your fault stuff like that happens.
About your hours tho. No blind playthrough? Minimal exploring? Started from launch with a guide? I'm at the same amount for a single while you have multiple.
Another area I'm not a huge fan of. I'm told faith healing spells (except urgent heal) do huge damage to Revenants, and also dodging towards them doesn't trigger their awful flurry (allegedly).I see! Good to hear about your initial approach. Same here with the missing stuff. This is not Super Mario Bros 1-1
I need atm do a rune pick up. And i think it's best to go step by step because if I get mobbed again what's the point. They're stairs where archers with balistas are and I jumped on a arch going down into a room with Revenants and lots of regular soldiers. So yeah. I'll figure something out and it's only 1 level I'll be missing.

You can do that lower strip in reverse by dropping down from one or two points, which gives you sneak attack chance against Revenants, and if you summon a spirit ash it will stay with you for the entire strip. But I tend to stay on the upper route, go round, and run through because such a dense and dangerous area means it's risky getting back to your souls when you inevitably die and there's so much to deal with
You gentlemen need to get the Twiggy Cracked Tear and add it to your Flask of Wonderous Physick. It prevents rune loss for three minutes and acts as a safety net for your hard earned Runes. It lays at the base of a Minor Erdtree between the outer and inner walls of Leyndel by the North Eastern mountain range.
Disclaimer: You always lose your souls even with a Sacrificial Twig if death blight hits you. Amusingly enough, it can hit NPC invaders too.
Oh, Dung Eater, you daft bastard.
Bosses are not terrifying. Cliffs are. I spend more time figuring out how to get from A to B than how to beat boss C or D.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...
Worst boss of the game and probably of the whole Soulsborne franchise for me.Final boss spoilers
I can’t believe they made the last boss a coward that you need to chase around a huge arena if you are a melee user, and it just keeps escaping like a pathetic loch ness monster, firing from distance .
