Emily Rogers: Splatoon Switch is not a sequel, allegedly. Same for Mario Kart.

Have they announced the launch lineup? Let's wait until the launch lineup is announced before assuming they only have ports.
You're assuming Nintendo doesn't have any new exlusives for launch when we know nothing.

Man... over 50% of what is spoken on here is assumptions. I can only go one what I know and what I know is that there haven't been any games announced that are exclusive to a system that comes out in 5 months.

Nintendo hasn't announced any game, other than Zelda have they? Let's wait till they actually announce titles before assuming that all they have are Wii U ports.
Nintendo wont talk Switch games or Specs anymore until January 2017.
They confirmed so all we can do is wait

I'ved played this game for a year, accorss a thousand hour, and this 100% isn't a map in Splatoon. Also, daku has more clout than you on this matter. idk why you are arguing with someone who has likely played hundreds of hours of the game.

I dunno, it just looked very similar. But after a thorough investigation, I must come to this conclusion too, it's probably a new map.

Sorry for the useless argument.

Obviously not. There's a lot of people who don't own a Wii U and have yet to play these games so the smart thing is to port those over first and then think about what to do with sequels.

That's the way I look at it.
There's a big delta to what Smash and MK sold on Wii U vs their POTENTIAL to sell, given the demand for the franchises. Stop-gap "enhanced versions" on a broader appealing console can reduce that delta, and provide Nintendo additional revenue and time for dedicated sequels.

I did some research. I was effectively wrong, it's not the same as the reveal trailer one, but I still think it's an existing map. I'll look to which one it is.

Isn't there someone that think too ? I'm feeling like a fool here

Just looks like another version of Urchin Underpass to me. New map, probably.

Why can't they just develop a powerhouse to go to bat against Microsoft/Sony. A comparable system with a compelling online experience would literally set the world on fire and developers would love it.

I hate to say it about my beloved Nintendo, but they need to go broke and just become a developer.

I always crack up at how Nintendo devs created the Wii's online services without ever being on the PSN or Xbox live to have a clue what people like.

LOL, they wouldn't do that. More likely to go mobile-only than make expensive 3D games for their ex-competitors. That ship sailed with mobile.

I'm so confused. So now if you count Bethesda saying Skyrim isn't a real game for Switch right now, a bulk of their announced games are simply Wii U ports at the moment. Given Nintendo's history with third parties, I don't like how Nintendo's own games for the Switch seem to also be enhanced ports. I obviously know they've got plenty of originals, but they need to stick the landing here and be aggressive marketing this thing. So show more of them. I've got a Wii U, Nintendo. And those games weren't enough to get people to buy it. Show me why I should buy Switch.

Just a bizarre way to show the system so far. Not confidence building to say the least.

It was a teaser for the concept behind the hardware. They get the press bump for a few days from that. Later they show off more about the hardware, and show off a new game. They get another press bump for that. Come January they show games, announce the price, and open preorders. That gives them a this press bump.

This is how PR works.

Exactly but why assume that all they have for launch is Wii U ports when Nintendo hasn't spoken about games at all yet?

The thing we know is that Nintendo will talk about games later. Until then, let's not get too upset over a couple Wii U ports.

Im ok with this I'm sure Nintendo will add enough content to make them worth it for previous owners, on another note with almost all of the games shown being ports, I'm looking forward to seeing what the system can do graphics wise

Nintendo hasn't announced any game, other than Zelda have they? Let's wait till they actually announce titles before assuming that all they have are Wii U ports.

I didn't assume that, re-read my post. I know they have originals, I've been gaming a long time I know Nintendo ain't releasing a system with unique products at launch and in the pipeline. My issue is that this is how they chose to reveal the system. I'm worried it's revealing of the type of madrush they are to move on from Wii U, and the type of support the system is gonna get from third parties. I've seen past reveals from all companies, and most of them are not dominated by ports. Go back in time and look, compare and contrast.

If it's a video where they mixed concepts with real games, they should do a better job of clarifying.

Nintendo is in a precarious place in terms of their consoles and handhelds. They need to stick the landing here. The weirdness around this reveal, the games they chose to highlight, and the way third parties have responded is worrying me as someone who already has issues with feeling this concept is gonna get them out of the mire and move on from Wii U.

I'm completely cool with these games getting rereleases as enhanced ports. If there is some program for the original owners to get a discount then I'm all the way in.

For Smash though there will always be no doubt. Seeing Ice Climbers and Wolf again would make me so happy! Add some brand new characters like Ridley, give DK some real gorilla fur and I'd be happy for another 5+ years.

Even if they aren't "new" games, having Splatoon, Mario Kart, Smash and Zelda at launch or very close to it would be pretty killer for Switch

In comparison, With WiiU, we only got like, what.. New Super Mario U and Nintendoland for about, 9 months, until Pikmin 3 came out in August.

These seem kind of like fighting game sub-sequels, and I play smash 4 competitively so now this system is a must. Well whatever I wanted it anyway.

No one reasonably expected new entries at launch and now we're moaning because we're "only" getting ports?

Folk acting like brand new games in these series as launch titles was ever on the cards when there was a mainline Zelda and Mario rumoured...please. Put away the faux outrage.

Or, they simply didn't want to show new games because they didn't want to talk about new games until next year?

Edit: Seems to be the second bolded part may be clouding your judgment

With some changes and upgrades Smash, MK8 and Splatoon are eSports ready. Just add new DLC to them and make other games. Maybe offer Seasons in retail just to keep people up to date who don't like DLC or something.

I'd love to see some kind of competitive Mario Maker mode for Switch but even if it is just Mario Maker that's good enough for me. Just add more DLC to it please.

They might not have wanted to. To me that's a problem, and that's the point of my comment. The system is already on shaky ground conceptually, I want them to be aggressive and show the world they are moving on from an era of never getting third party support and playing it safe with their own products.

You can't get mad when people judge your product based on how you choose to show it off. That interpretation may be wrong, but then nobody is at fault for that except Nintendo.

You don't put them all out at launch. Probably Mario Kart 8.5 (since its the oldest). Maybe Smash too. Then you accompany it with Zelda and whatever quirky original first-party game Nintendo has in mind. (Wii Sports, Steel Diver, etc).

Splatoon as the Summer game. 3D Mario as the star of you first Holiday line-up.

I think Smash is the important one to start with. At launch would be desirable, but they could reveal it before launch then release it maybe Holiday 2017. Or an alternative option is launch it with Switch with whatever new content you have ready, then support it with DLC for maybe just a bit.

The point is that most people who know anything about Smash development will tell you that if Sakurai were given an out on building a totally new smash game from the ground up with 60+ characters for Switch in 2019, he'd probably do it. I would love to see him wash his hands of it for long enough to rest and maybe make an original Switch game if he wants. I have no doubt the attractiveness of building content onto a well-received (mechanics-wise) Smash title was apparent to everyone involved.

I think I can safely say that Smash is Nintendo's single most important title because of its branding and marketing ability. Any time there's a smash game coming up, you're seeing Nintendo characters everywhere and people buzzing about the latest character reveal.

I imagine the ability to trot out a Smash game with new content at launch is a huge draw for Switch. It's a series with mainstream exposure and it leverages all of Nintendo's strongest IP assets in one game (and it can sell amiibo too).

I've been playing Splatoon daily since launch (600+ hours logged). That is a different map (people are likely confusing it with Urchin Underpass). No idea how it can be a port when they've shown different weapons, new hair styles, a different map, new gear class, and new gear. The only thing that could remain the same was if it had exactly the same single-player campaign.

Aside from Splatoon, I can't see Nintendo making sequels to Smash, Mario Kart or Mario Maker in short order if enhanced ports came to Switch.

I firmly believe they're avoiding a full court press till post Christmas because they don't want to get lost in the holiday purchase cycle. It makes more sense to release all the info in January. If they start dumping info now it's entirely possible people won't care.

Well, that's something Emily Rogers mentionned months ago, when she first talked about the Splatoon and Mario Maker ports.

My assumption, given its announcement, is that whatever information she had about the Mario Maker port was actually referring to the 3DS version.

Yep. They've also likely been working on this since the last major update for Splatoon was back in like January?

Developers won't love it just because it's powerful. If the Nintendo audience doesn't buy their games they could care less.

Yeah your right re the Devs. But I think a more powerful system that would enable Nintendo to play Triple AAA games would be a hit. The Nintendo audience will always buy legacy Nintendo games, I would just love to see them with a system that would steal users away from Sony/Microsoft.

No console in recent memory has had a press blowout only 2 months before launch. It's batshit crazy.

And Western consumers aren't thinking about spending money and pre-ordering in January, right after Christmas. This is a very Japan-centric decision.

Assuming the MK and Splatoon footage used in the trailer has any relevance to the games we're getting, then it was immediately clear they're not straight ports. There will be extra modes/stuff for those who've played before, and a dream line up for the Nintendo unfaithful around launch.

Whether Smash Switch, MK8 Switch & Splatoon Switch appeals a lot to me as a WiiU owner remains to be seen. I can already play these games, and without BC on Switch I'll be keeping at least one WiiU set-up for the forseeable future.

The bigger question is whether Zelda will be 'enhanced', or a straight port of the WiiU version.

I'm not mad...at all. I have simply said, let's wait before getting mad/upset, as it seems some are doing.

Nintendo has come out and stated they will talk about games at a later date. If they show the system, but clearly state they will talk games later, I'm not going to get upset about a few rumors of Wii U ports.

If these are ports, even enhanced ports, then it's over for Nintendo. They are just so out of touch with the market.

Why is it crazy? It's 2016/2017. They just announced their new platform by posting an announcement of a video for the next day, then put up a youtube video. That video was seen almost 11,000,000 times in less than 24 hours.

Why would that company need to have a software blowout six months to a year from launch? What advantage does that give them that could not be achieved through a Nintendo Direct in January?

Trade shows like E3, and the traditional PR cycle are dying because they are relics of the past.

And Western consumers aren't thinking about spending money and pre-ordering in January, right after Christmas. This is a very Japan-centric decision.

Going to need some evidence to back this up.

I was just being general, I don't mean you specifically were literally mad; I mean simply people rightly expressing doubt because of the way Nintendo chose to reveal the system are not at fault. That's on Nintendo. That the way they revealed Switch allows so much doubt is the problem.

I would like to be able to get a discount on games if I have hem on my Wii U. Especially of digital as I can't trade them in.
Not exactly a bad thing if you never had a Wii U.

To be fair, a bunch of fucking remasters was exactly what the Wii U could have needed. HD Wii games were the prime target lol

err...why? you mean the PS4 market that eats up PS3 ports (TLOU, GTAV)? or the current N market that eats up Zelda HD versions? this post makes zero sense
