Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

has anyone found out what you can do at the altars in the rooms with all the bullet coffins?

what about the various people we save? Ive seen the
vampire lady
once, shows up in the store and has extra items to sell, usually higher tier guns, and at cheaper prices

I havent seen the
old bullet dude
, and I also saved someone else that I havent seen but cant remember who it was

and do we know if there are more characters to unlock? that empty space on the right side kinda looks like it would be for a second camp of playable characters

Where is the trick in this game?
I had no problems with spelunky or Binding of Isaac and see people in this thread that are on their first run on floor 4 etc.
I have played plenty of runs (~30) and was able to beat the first boss one single time lol. Are there any hearts hidden somewhere? I rarely see any on the way to the boss while the shop is too expensive to buy more than a half...maybe I`m missing something

Don't get hit, ever, sounds simple, but it's not.

You need to get very familiar with the dodge roll, and the enemy attack patterns and know when to dodge roll, and when not too, and which attacks you can easily avoid, you also want to threat manage every room and take out the toughest enemies first.

Also, use the cover, flip tables and use them as a respite and the give yourself some breathing room.

I bought the game and it's incredibly fun. Too much fun really, especially when I have other obligations to do x_x

If you mean on the second floor, yes, but it takes some prep and skill. Full walk-through on the spoiler.
You first have to access the secret fireplace floor (The Oubliette), then you have to find a room (which is usually locked with a key) that contains a special red and white shield. That counts as armor AND IS ALWAYS THE FIRST ONE REMOVED IF HIT, so basically from the point you collect it, you have to play flawlessly until you go through to the second floor, and find that room with the altar. Insert the shield (you still get to keep the armor that it gave) and you access ANOTHER hidden floor. Pro tip: Clear every room in the Oubliette, including the boss, before grabbing the shield and moving on.

awesome. so those
fireplace switch hidden rooms, thts not just a shortcut to the floor bellow? thats what I assumed it was and since it needs 2 keys to open, I never opened them

I just gained permanent health during a run, does that just last until the end of the run or did I somehow unlock more health? Please tell me it stays.

Also 2d6 + Int mod rofl. Oh man, I love these weapons.

Yeah that's an actual separate hidden floor, not a shortcut to the second floor (especially since, you know, you'll have to do another full floor if you go there :p)

You mean another heart container? The only way I found out to get more heart containers is by
clearing a floor without being hit
but it's not permanent (and I'm willing to bet there's no permanent way to get extra hp).

Yes, but there are rarely any hearts. Or can they be found in the destroyable stuff inside a room (vase, barrel etc.)?
I am also not able to find any hidden room lol :/
you should be getting enough cash from killing everything on each floor to afford hearts at the shop.. killing bosses at the end should give some as well. some rooms might give you some too. the main thing is to avoid damage though.

Damnit... I'm pretty good at Binding of Isaac but I'm struggling with this game for some reason. 3rd floor is the deepest I've been.

I don't think there's any way to permanently unlock extra health in Binding of Isaac either, right? Unless I'm deeply mistaken...
Don't worry about it too much, the first attempts are always much more of a learning experience than anything, cause you don't know the enemy attacks and patterns. After a while it gets easier :)

No, but you get items and such that give you extra heart containers. This game just has armor, and not being hit lol.

Pilot seems like hard mode to me. Marine at least gets good aim + reload, other two get a good secondary weapon. Don't seem like Pilot is worth it if you can't reliably finish floor one to take advantage of lockpicks or cheaper shop prices. That plus if you can't get another gun the starter pistol on the pilot seems like the worse of the 4.

you unlcok heart containers to show up in the store or as drops

Oh shit didn't know this existed but it looks right up my alley. Buddy and I loved the co-op in Tower Fall and this looks like it'll scratch the itch for something vaguely similar.

Does the dive roll shown the in OP Gif work like an I-frame roll in the SoulsBorne series? Looks super fun.

To those struggling: Learning when NOT to dodge roll is key in my opinion. I still do it occasionally in a sort of panic and it sometimes gets me hit when I wouldn't have or hit twice instead of once. Learning which targets to prioritise is another big one. Both are learned by dying a lot lol

Oh well yeah I know things that unlock extra heart containers for the run, but not what I'd call "permanently". For me that would be like, something that persisted during multiple runs and not just for that single run. Apologies if you meant only for the duration of the run, in which case yes you can unlock extra heart containers.

No I meant actual permanent health at first. The game seemed to be more of a legacy upgrade than binding of Isaac was so I thought maybe that's how we got tougher vs per run like Isaac.

They definitely seem to be few and far between. Same with actual health pickups.

Well there's still time for me to be proven wrong, and I'll be gladly wrong :P (especially since I'm also struggling on the final floors for now lol)

Yep, my 50+ hours of Nuclear Throne mean absolutely nothing.

I'm struggling so hard with the bosses. Now I'm getting the hang of killing all of the first ones although I always end up getting hit a few tines.

Second bosses are just twice the bulkiness. It takes forever for them to die.

Lil' Bandit is going to be a piece of cake from now on....

For me it's the level 1 bosses who are easy and beholster is easy as well, Imm getting my ass kicked by the Gorgun though....

Haha awesome reference to the Legend of Zelda in here as well

is there ever anything inside the stacks of books, vases, and barrels that i've been obsessively destroying in every room, like money or hearts, or am i wasting my time?

p.s i'm obsessed with this game. it's fantastic

I think I am done with this game, I just cannot stand the bosses, they have way too much HP and no matter what weapon you can never beat them reasonably quickly. It is a chore merely thinking of the Level 1 bosses, I don't even wanna start a run anymore.

Too bad because the regular gameplay is fun.

I can't really agree with the argument that the bosses are too bulletspongey.

The only time I found them tedious was when I was using the starting infinite ammo weapon for the first boss because I actually didn't find a weapon on the first floor (has only happened once so far and I'm 12 runs in)
Almost every other gun kills them in a reasonable time, some weapons completely destroy bosses,
the beehive
for example kills the 1st and 2nd floor bosses in like 20-30 seconds without even having to aim at them.

dont know what game you are playing but bosses go down fast with good weapons. Corsair is ridiculous (fill the room with bouncing bullets and the bosses just melt), the bomb gun and rpg take huge chunks of health, and most rapid fire weapons do aswell. Are you buying the items from the store in the hub so they populate the world, and also clearing every level to find more weapons or money to buy weapons?

Ehh.. Id say you could remove maybe 10-15% of their HP to remove some of the length of the fights, but any more and you'll be able to just brute force the fights without learning how to actually best them.

I have started buying things from the girl and the robot but I've never seen any of those actually dropped on the first floor. Half of the time I don't even get a good weapon on the 1st floor.

Even when I had some better weapons, I forgot their names, sort of rocket launchers and that kinda stuff, it still takes 5 minutes to grind down the bosses. I guess it's just me.

The RNG is strong in this game.

I'm having a weird issue with the ps4 version of the game. My characters is aiming in the direction of their movement, forcing me to constantly aim with the right stick. Its weird, I swear it wasn't like this prior to when I updated the console to 3.50.

Gotta love games that are actually difficult and where you have to develop skills and learn in order to progress.
Screw all that lowest common denominator press x to win shite!

Excellent game, one of the best of the year so far.

I finally reached the final boss and then died ;_;

Not that it would matter too much, because (big spoilers)
there's a blacksmith on the final floor who asks for 4 materials to make a special bullet so we can actually kill the past.

Also the
Megahand
is busted for room clearing (not so much for boss fights though).

Edit: Also I wonder, what character is everyone using? I'm using the Pilot, even though his starting weapon is terrible, I feel he can become much better than the other characters if RNG is on your side with the Lockpick.

That's a perfect amount. I'd be happy if it was patched. It just stops being fun once you've already gotten the hang of it but has to stay 3+ minutes shooting. I don't even know if that's actually how long it takes but it does feel like a long time. Unlike bosses on BoI and NT that usually go down in a matter of seconds and manage to still be challenging.

Just a tip, if you really are getting shitty weapons, just play with the hunter and use the crossbow on the bosses, can make them all go down easily with it... (Lvl 1 bosses that is)

How yea dealing with controller? I tried it but the shoot/dodge were on bumpers fixed that. I just need to get use to my new controller then (which I should as DS3 soon!)

I killed a few mimics.
