Eurogamer: Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear

When should Zelda: Breath of the Wild release in Europe?

The notion that AAA games don't see to have simultaneous releases in 2017 (see Horizon, Mass Effect) is absolutely mind boggiling. If true this would be even worse.

It's an increasing reason why I buy off of other regions PSN stores more so now.

This shit needs to change industry wide.

When reading leaks/articles like this, and the discussions that follows, I really start questioning the need for this kind of information to be published.

What did we learn from this? Only one thing; BotW isn't fully localized for EU yet. That's absolutely everything we've learned. Maybe Nintendo will throw a ton of localization people at it to make the EU launch. Maybe they will miss it. That would suck. In less than a weeks time we probably will know.

The actual result of the article? Users on various forums debating the article as fact, despite knowing not nearly enough of the actual picture to provide enough ground for meaningful discussion. That can even be said for the author of the article - all he knows is that Nintendo are making decisions on when to launch BotW in EU. Broadcasting that to the world, and then speculating himself, is pretty irresponsible to me.

Do you not think the launch date discussions have been ongoing for months? Do you really think we know anything near enough of the picture to draw conclusions from this info?

March is close, but you'd be surprised to see how much of game creation happens alarmingly late in development. If every last minute change or decision was being published like this, you would get desensitized to it in a month.

If it's not complete for EU what do the people that are upset suggest as an alternative?

Delay the rest of the world and miss launch?

very different as at the time they released two very japanese games in different markets to test the appeal.

Europe got "Doshin the Giant" and the US got "Animal Crossing". Doshin never made it back to the US because it flopped hard.

i do in fact own every copy of PAL Doshin the Giant there is (as far as i know).

How many copies is that?

This tells me the game has a lot more dialogue and story than people were saying originally (for a long time people were saying it had no npcs besides Old Man and the shrine monks at all!). Which is good, the story was probably the most redeeming part of SS.

Still planing to get this when there's a few games confirmed that I'm interested in but would be poor if they delay the release date in one region. Nintendo being Nintendo I suppose.

I thought NoE was better than NoA? Remember those JRPG's they brought over before NoA even bothered?

Seems hard to believe.

I'm sure that NoE is working as fast as they can, but they could be held up by the core development. NoE can't really start localization before the game is nearly finished.

It's not really complicated to me. Yes, I think region locking is enough of a detriment in the modern day that I have no interest in ever supporting another console that does it. I don't care if it's Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo that tries it, nostalgia isn't going to win me over.

I don't know why you're reducing people interest in these games down to nostalgia. People want to play games. Nintendo makes good games. It's as simple a that. Region locking isn't a hot-button issue for most gamers, and while I agree that it should be a feature, I think you're projecting your lack of interest into other people and their priorities.

Nintendo Europe need to get that game translated. If they don't have the man power they need to get contractors in to get it done. Having Zelda release everywhere but Europe will not do down well with Europeans.

The problem here is Nintendo planning. Even SE made FFXV a WW launch, ton of 3rd party games launch with multiple languages not to mention there won't be a ton of voice acting in a Zelda game. If EU gets Zelda late like more than a month that's a big fuck up by Nintendo.

This would be the worst way to launch a system
It would imprint such a bad impression that the EU market would be hard to regain

Hey Nintendo, I have a suggestion. Release it at least in the UK and all other Pal-Territories get Mario. This way I can get both at release and everything is fine!

You're creating a bullshit narrative of disinterest for me.

I'm very interested. I'm also very interested in seeing companies pony up and act like it's the 21st century. If that's not your priority and you're okay with companies adopting shitty, out of date practices, that's your problem. My question has to do with how many people who claim to care about region locking really actually would care if the chips are down and they're not what we wanted.

Possibly. Missing the entirety of the EU region would be a colossal failure and a terrible piece of optics.

Surely that's a bad example considering the delays it underwent?

Now I don't like the idea of Europe getting Zelda later but those other publishers generally aren't worrying about launching with a console.

I don't get it really, I mean don't they localize all the languages at the same time? It takes more man-hours surely, but they should be able to finish all the translations parallell to each other.

For logistical reasons a lot of European localizations tend to be based on the English one. There are exceptions though. Some Nintendo games are localized for NA and EU in parallel. Smash Bros's English translations in NA vs UK were totally different, for example.

But you're creating a false dichotomy between my interest in playing Switch games and my desire for region-locking to end. They're not mutually exclusive. But it should be no surprise that ultimately the games themselves are the main incentive for people. Im all for making a cause against region-locking. But suggesting that it's so dire of an issue that we should boycott a system that we have a lot of investment is simply unrealistic. And I think it's unfair to say that nostalgia is the driving factor. No, people just want to play games.

The worst thing is, just like for every other game, they'll localize for a handful of European countries and the rest of the pleb countries get no localization at all, just....English. lol.

So lots of people are waiting for nothing, which might be even worse.

Maybe Europe should be united under the benevolent dictatorship of Vladimir Putin and everything can be localized into Russian. Problem solved.

FFXV under Tabata had one delay from September to November. Also if delays could somehow make localization be on time than Zelda should already be done as the game has been delayed for more than a year now lol.

So you're not actually that interested in ending region locking. That's fine. For some people certain issues take precedence. Should I put up with always online games if I "just want to play a game"? Should I put up with poor localization "just to play games"? Should I put up with region locking "just to play games"?

I want to play games too. I just want to play them unfettered by bullshit.

They should just release it everywhere in English and push alternate languages in a patch later.
Ironically, i've always been against voice acting in Zelda for this reason lol....

A little bird told me that the game contains
a cutscenes called "Zelda's Memories", or something like that. The game has quite a lot of voice acting (as well as a lot of quests).

How many copies is that?

like 100-150, i'm obviously exaggerating but i never met someone else who owns a copy.
can't imagine there that many more sealed copies of that game around lol.

they sold them for less than an a dollar after it bombed hard and my friend and i thought it was hilarious to buy them all up in every store . we made it into a game who could find more, we also thought it might increase demand down the line because they would be rare.

i think they are in my parents basement somewhere. i actually never checked if they had any value.
