Eurogamer: Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear

When should Zelda: Breath of the Wild release in Europe?

Fuck Nintendo if this doesn't come out close to the NA date. They pull this shit too many times, but even with a Zelda title, in 2017? Get out of here. Definitely won't buy the Switch if it comes late, this is the thing that pisses me off the most from Nintendo. Had enough with Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates, two games that I was highly anticipating.

It isn't about screwing the European gamer. It's about saving the Switch launch in Japan and North America. They could delay Zelda because of Europe for a worldwide launch but then all they're doing is hurting the Switch launch in Japan and North America. That would make no sense. Either way Europe wouldn't get the game until June. By doing it this way you're still getting it when you would of anyway, it's just that they're able to launch their new system with this game in other territories.

I for one, being an American, would be more angry if the game was delayed for me JUST because of the European version. Nintendo would face more outrage if they delayed it globally because of one territory than they would if they delayed it just for that one territory.

If Switch isn't region free, it'd be nice to see people actually take a stand against them.

But they won't.

...what does that even mean - People complained alot about the current systems not being region-free....hell WiiU is the worst selling Nintendo system ever. What stand should they take ? Kidnap a Nintendo employee until they change it ? lol

It's Nintendo. People will give them a pass and allow them to carry on as if they're in the 90's.

Seriously, this thing can NOT be region locked in this day and age. If I want to play a Japanese or American game, nothing should prevent me from bringing it into Europe.

No Zelda at launch will be disappointing but I'll be buying this anyway. Don't want to risk it being sold out or hard to buy. If no Zelda for Europe then there better be another big game at launch.

I'm more worried about being spoiled than having to wait an extra three months though. Will be hard for me to navigate the internet those three months.

If it's revealed to be region locked, not buying the system and making a ruckus on social media would be a good place to start.

There have been those threads by Cheesemeister highlighting the interest in a region free console, with people making all kinds of noise on Twitter, Facebook and Miiverse. It'll be interesting to see if the system is region locked if any of those people actually stand up or just bend over for Big N again.
We got threads defending Nintendo never dropping price on some four year old games

Region free will never happen fam
Lol, true. I think there's a chance though, I'm holding out hope.

If its delayed at least I hope the voice for Zelda is dubbed into PAL5. Its not a good excuse for it to be delayed, but at least something is something.

Nuria Trifol for the spanish version, thank you very much.

If its delayed and theres no dub what so ever, why? Why would they delay the game? Are we getting Mario instead or something?

"How we can make sure, that Zelda sales are still good then in the EU, when it will release in the future ?"
- "Let's implement Region Locking to be sure."

It's too late to add region locking I imagine but it does now make me wonder if it's always been there.

So you really think that people who love Nintendo games and have been waiting years to play this game in particular should put off buying the console indefinitely because of this issue? I agree that region locking is an archaic and ridiculous architecture at this point, but it's more complicated than a simple boycott. You clearly aren't invested in the subject of Nintendo games if that's your solution.

High five! Children entertainment shouldnt be dubbed imo, as they have much more patience, and learns so fast. I remember a ton of childrens show here back in the day being in swedish, danish and english, and the games all being in english (im norwegian). This is what helps you learn.

By that notion children in europe should also need to learn japanese from children anime no?

No. Children media should be dubbed, an option for the original audio with subs should always be present (and it is already), different country (and region) languages should be preserved this way and english should be taught to kids at school and with special TV programming. Enough of this stupid monolitic, "English should be the only language going forward".

And Im saying this having the luck of attending a british school in my day (and I still love watching stuff in my language whenever is done well). Thankfully english is being taught MUCH better on normal public schools now than some years ago, so thats a good step forward and what is REALLY needed.

If your german, swedish, whatever center/north european country dubs sucked when doing cartoons and videogames (or didnt have), deal with it, but dont try to force other countries with quality dubs with the stupid "education for children" excuse.

It's not really complicated to me. Yes, I think region locking is enough of a detriment in the modern day that I have no interest in ever supporting another console that does it. I don't care if it's Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo that tries it, nostalgia isn't going to win me over.

Gaf told me that it's wrong to complain about some people getting the game earlier then others, you should just be happy to play the game at all.

They'd be fools not to release it in March wherever possible if it's ready. It's possibly their most anticipated title of the last 20 years.

I say you release a language patch for EU later on.

Agreed. If they can't get all the translations done, just put it out as is and patch in the language updates when available. I'm sure most would prefer that than Europe having a delay as a whole, especially those who are fluent in Engljsh.

I don't know why people get so upset. Europeans should be thankful Nintendo even bothers releasing games in there at all.

Entitlement trough the roof.

Haven't most credible rumors/leaks pointed to no region lock? I feel like this will all be a non-issue and there's just confusing reports and fragments of statements getting spread around

I can definitely see this happening if the game requires heavy translation into French, German, Spanish and more. Although there is an argument if it does miss the March launch of Switch that maybe Nintendo should have had the foresight to hurry things along sooner.

It would make sense for Nintendo to still get the game on shelves day one in the huge US and Japan regions even if Europe has to wait. Although it would piss us Europeans off and generate some negative PR, they'd still hit the ground running with Switch elsewhere in the world.

If Switch really is region free I'll just import it. Nintendo know this will happen with anyone who speaks English or Japanese and maybe that's why a European delay is possible.

On the other hand, initial marketing and promotional material appearing in European stores suggests Zelda launches with Switch. Hopefully there's firm clarification next week.

Don't like the sound of this, if true. Its going to be months of avoiding spoilers...

Came here for Thor 2 option, leaving disappointed.

Besides, can't blame Nintendo for neglecting Europe TBH. Realistically, US and Japan are the important regions for sales (I live in Europe BTW).

I don't think a delay would be long, though. Maybe up to a month or two.

"Neglecting"

If it's not finished it's not finished.

Not really directed at you, but people in this thread are acting insanely entitled. Now if this was delayed for marketing purposes I could understand.

Even the idea that this could be possible is completely fucked.

There are no words If Nintendo actually go through with something this bullshit.

Good news is it should still launch in March for those in the UK.
Brexit joke.

In US you only need to localize for English.
In EU you got these:
Itallian, Spanish, French, and German translations. Russian maybe too?
localizing takes time. it's possible they could release it in english only and then offer up patches for other languages in the EU.

I mean, Nintendo is one of the few publishers left (and pretty much the only major one AFAIK) that have no problem in delaying the european releases of their games for months.

Anyhoo maybe they will just delay the console launch for EU a little and have more stock for JP and US. Problem solved!

If the game is region free, can't they just ship the English copy throughout Europe and release language patches later? Presumably if it's releasing in NA in March, then there are Spanish and French translations available too.
