Eurogamer: Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear

When should Zelda: Breath of the Wild release in Europe?

If so then Switch better be region-free. I will be very disappointed if I have to wait 2 extra months for the EU version to come out.

Also should be noted this is evidence based on insiders. For all we know said insiders just don't know. Less "Eurogamer: Zelda's launch timing in Europe is still unclear" and more "Eurogamer: We don't have any facts about Zelda's launch in Europe".

It's not like Nintendo itself issued a release schedule with BotW listed at TBA under Europe.
I'm also partly reminded of Twilight Princess on Gamecube. There was a time when NOEs website had no info on it so I asked customer services. UK were like "we have no information on this" (typical useless reply) while Germany said "oh sometime in December". News takes time to travel I guess,

I think what this article tells us isn't so much "Zelda won't make launch in Europe" but more "to make launch, NoE has to work overtime in an horrible crunch because they didn't get the extra time they thought they had".
I wonder if changing their localization department a few years ago (something like scaling down full time workers, contracts only) has caused this problem.

Ok, read the entire article and it really IS unclear =/

It would appear they were on the same track for localisation, yet somehow they are behind...?

Bleh. Whatever. Here's hoping for the best for EU fans and we'll truly see what's going down on the 12th.

Honestly, the thought of Zelda:BOTW and a new Mario 64-esque 3D Mario on launch day is nothing short of:

EDIT - Sorry Europe...

Well, im in Europe and im going to buy it for Wii U, which is region locked. Its the worst console i ever owned, and i suppose this would be the perfect sendoff just to cement Nintendos failure. Icing on an already awful cake.

Sneaky poll. :) It's very clear a lot of people aren't even bothering to highlight or take a solid look at the poll.

If true it's amazing a company the size of Nintendo couldn't get it out in time. Hopefully this means there is substantially more VA than we thought

Localization is not just VA... Also, the rumor seems to suggest a bit of miscommunication. If what they're saying holds true, NCL wanted the game out ASAP while NOA and NOE thought they had until later in 2017 to localize. This is not a confirmation that Zelda is missing launch day for the NOE territories.

I feel like I should care, but I guess I'm just immune to Zelda delays now.

Would be nice to have the option of importing, though.

This would be just plain stupid if Nintendo didn't release it at the same time. Just release the English version at least and make translations downloadable later

Yeah seriously, just release it in Japanese and patch the rest later.
Or better, just release the Japanese text and patch the game later, and then patch the other languages.

If they release world wide on the same day/week: All good, day one EU purchase.

If they release in March everywhere except for the EU and the Switch is Region Free: I will import a US copy of the game.

Fuck waiting.

Why even report on this now if they're so uncertain? Especially when we'll almost definitely find out what's really happening with this game in approximately a week anyway.

Well the poll has spoken , You guys are really mean about Europe.

I'm guilty of choosing march 2018 myself

Unless i'm mistaken they report like this when they have multiple different sources saying the same thing.

If localisation is really the issue I'd launch an English only version of the game and later update it. Or at least release in the UK (I'm not from there), so we have the option to import and not have to wait for US customs and shipping.

Because there's people who want to play on Wii U too, you know, and that shit isn't region free, but it plays UK games just fine.

I perfectly understand the difference it makes to them releasing the console with or without Zelda. They have to account for the difference it makes to people to get the console with or without it. I know I wouldn't get one without Zelda, for sure. They have to be careful with the best decision and it's imo releasing it soon with access for everyone in the world, but if it's not translated the box needs to state it properly. It will be a huge loss anyway.

Fuck Nintendo if this doesn't come out close to the NA date. They pull this shit too many times, but even with a Zelda title, in 2017? Get out of here. Definitely won't buy the Switch if it comes late, this is the thing that pisses me off the most from Nintendo. Had enough with Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates, two games that I was highly anticipating.

They HAVE to get Zelda out at the same time the Switch will launch.

Anything else equals massive amounts of sales lost.

Positive spin: Would be a good game to highlight the platform's region-free capabilities with...

Yeah, this was my thinking as well, if it's region free many in EU can still readily play it day one. Though, it still may get Nintendo some bad or in Europe.

I wonder if there's a chance Mario hits EU but not JP or NA day one, for purposes of spacing the most major releases, but again with region free that definitely matters less.

If Switch isn't region free then Nintendo can shove it up their collective ass.

Seriously, it's 2017.

I mean, I'm not holding my breath. I worked for Nintendo's UK office at one time (customer service in the main) and despite the fact we got endless complaints about region locks (and endless reminders that PlayStation and XBOX don't do this), there was major resistance to any change in that at an executive level.

Don't get me wrong, I left in 2012, so it could have changed a lot since then, but Nintendo can be terribly stuck in their ways sometimes (the absurd process of resetting parental controls on a DS/3DS stands as continuing testament to this),

Unless i'm mistaken they report like this when they have multiple different sources saying the same thing.

They don't seem to have any actual concrete information in this report though, what you gather is "uncertainty" but that's not much more than what Laura told us already days ago. This is just more of the same with no real new clarity.

Moreover, this information could well be weeks to months old and no information has actually trickled out of NoE/NoA to update our leakers on release date plans. I'd sooner imagine NoE will crunch this out and pay extra for timely release than be "uncertain" on release date. "Uncertain" is the status of the leaker's information, not the status of the project.

I just want the game to be good. I really hope they aren't rushing it out the door after so many years of work.

So... if they make you wait longer for the game you just won't buy it at all? I take the same approach, but only with fast food. If I have to wait longer than a few minutes for an order of some garbage food, it's not worth it. Can't say I would feel the same about a large-scale game that I know I'll enjoy regardless. To each his/her own.
