Paradox Development Studio is back with the fourth installment of the empire building game series that defined the Grand Strategy Genre. Europa Universalis IV gives you control of a nation to guide through the years in order to create a dominant global empire. Rule your nation through the centuries, with unparalleled freedom, depth and historical accuracy. True exploration, trade, warfare and diplomacy will be brought to life in this epic title rife with rich strategic and tactical depth.

Or another way to put it: You're a kid in a candy shop, except the shop is history and the candy is decisions. Europa Universalis IV is the one, the only, the deluxe empire building game. Players pick their favorite from hundreds of countries, every one of them unique, and govern it however they choose in an addictive battle for survival, for territory, or to bend history itself to their will. Guiding the broken states of Ireland to create a glittering world power? Beating back European colonists as a Native American tribe? Can you even HANDLE that sort of freedom? What about 32 person multiplayer? Or the new Monarch Power feature, your spread of choices is influenced by the caliber of man you have at the top. Do you see what we're saying? Every single play session will be utterly unique. We want you to gorge yourself on strategy, and see just how much you can take. It's the Age of Discovery, after all.

Already own Crusader Kings II on Steam? Gift it to a friend!

Didn't play much of EU3, but I had a deep, burning desire to unify the New World under a Mayan empire and beat back the European invaders. Is that even possible in these games?

So is there a good tutorial video series/lets play for this from the demo/beta?

I love me some CKII, but never really learned to play EU3.

Have preordered some time ago. Can't wait for this game to eat my spare time from work and Dota.

quill18's new player guide. That should get you started:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGH-Sc1EfdI&hd=1
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF8jWQx6RsA&feature=youtu.be&a&hd=1
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lYvU__anR0&feature=youtu.be&a&hd=1

Also this time around they apparently put a lot of effort into their tutorial and there even is a small tutorial campaign. The game also now has a way better in-game hint system.

The CK2 offer is still going, right?

EDIT: Yes it is, I just opened the CK2 Steam page and it has marked me as owning it.

The fact that you're getting 2 HUUUUGE games for £35 is an absolute steal. <3 Paradox.

I feel blessed that there is a public holiday tomorrow. The gods have looked down upon me and smiled. They understand.

Did the Steam preorder thing and started watching the videos.

Holy cow, they really did wonders with the UI. It looks very usable and modern now.

They changed quite a few things to make it more accessible. Like for example not using the end of year payment + monthly payments anymore. Now income is just steadily per month.

Do you know if Force Religion is still a war goal? I want to make the most fucked up Europe possible, Allah wills it.

This is my second Paradox game, the first one being CK2 that I got as a pre-order bonus. I'm curios how fast I will adapt to it. Maybe CK2 will help, although it seems to have a different focus.

and you should be. Took me 20 hours of crusader kings 2 to figure out what the hell was going on.

I picked Munster and all was going fine. King of Ireland and Jerusalem (which sounds pretty absurd when I think about it) in one generation. Then came the first succession. All those factions popping up, one after the other. Why, brother, whyyyy.

I'm sad that EU doesn't include dynasty building, but the demo was excellent.

As someone who enjoys strategy games and has over 1200 hours in Civ V, this will be my first Paradox game. I'm scared.

Based on the demo you can learn a ton just by playing a game and pretty much just responding to the alert flags. Couldn't be simpler to jump in.

I'm still tossing a coin as to whether I'll play as a Chinese nation or stick to Europe, or even going with Persia. I've still never touched France in an EU. Now might be the most interesting time to try it.

Yeah, it's one of those games where fucking up isn't much of an issue; it's still fun to watch the disasters unravel. Much better than reading/watching tutorials and let's plays.

Playing France is like playing Burgundy but less interesting because you can't raid the HRE as easily and England is a nuisance. Never found France games much fun.

Yeah, I have this problem too.

We have better resolution monitors than Paradox. They just don't understand the plight of the elite.

But, this still applies:

Swedes >>>>> Norwegian >>>>>>>>>>>> Fins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Danes

I hope we can form Lotharingia/Lottier this time around. Germanica/Germany and Francia/France always have all the fun.
