Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots |OT| Par Deux

I was desperate for a game to replace Mario Golf, but this ain't it. Glad I only spent $30. Hopefully it gets patched but word of mouth could sink this.

TLDW: wait for patches. I'm personally having a good time but there are definitely big issues

I love Mario Golf but the last one they released on Switch was a joke. While this new Hot Shots game isn't the best in the series, it's still 1000x better than Super Rush.
 
Doesn't look like you can buy World Invitational on the PSN store. I'd love to give it another try. Haven't played it since 2012ish?

Easily one of the best ones imo.

Also yeah, can't get it digital anymore. You could hunt a physical copy though. Vita version might not be too difficult to get. PS3 on the other hand I think was only physical in Asia or something like that.

I only have a Vita. Maybe my local eStarland has a copy. I know I'd enjoy the PS3 version more but mine (OG Phat version) broke years ago.

The only thing that may be an issue with the vita version is the dlc courses/characters. Not sure if they're obtainable anymore. Other than that, it's fine. I played mostly on vita for that game.

Yea the game runs like hot garbage on everything tbh.
Also that video explains why I hated it so much when I locked it down to 30 - sure that runs at a lower TDP and can even maintain 1080p - but it's borderline unplayable that way.
I can push it to 60 on my handheld if I dump 35W TDP on it and drop to 720p, but between FXAA and no mipmaps that starts to become a bit of an eyesore (also I don't know what HDR is supposed to be doing in this game but it just blows out the image for me).

Meanwhile - the PS3 HSG6/World Invitational runs emulated on this same system at 1440p, only needing 8W TDP, without breaking a sweat (and it looks better even outside the resolution).
So 4x the resolution and 4-5x less power lol.
If I could find a way to run HSG5 playable too I'd just ignore this new game handheld - but that just refuses to cooperate.

I never said Story mode is the only place to use Advanced shots. I found it there when selecting my character during Story mode. Another user on another site suggested to me that I go through Data and then Characters but I never found the Advanced shot toggle there. I didn't try other modes last night after I changed to Advanced shot, and I can't mess around with the game until later tonight.

For now, at least, I know we can choose Advanced shot through the Story mode round selection screen process.

Okay, I read you now. Thanks for addressing my questions. I had a feeling there wouldn't be an option to turn off the pings. It's probably difficult to ignore them when you're swinging?
 
I'm glad I got Easy Come Easy Golf by Clap Hanz instead. 60 FPS, plays smoothly. A bit basic, as it originated from a phone game. But solid gameplay.

The hate this game is getting is way overblown imo. I'd pick it over a cell phone game any day.

I haven't even tried half the modes yet. The core gameplay is there. Gotta unlock things like super spin. But I like having lots of things to unlock. Challenge mode, story mode, didn't even try wacky golf and it's 4 modes yet.
 
The criticisms are valid, but acting like it's complete trash is a bit much. It's literally just more Hot Shots. The last real one we got was in 2011.

The PS4 game was bloated slop.

I even liked that one but I only cared about the single player mode. I even liked the golf cart and fishing. Ha! My character was basically a creeper version of me with black leather short shorts and black leather gloves. But a short sleeve flannel shirt.

I remember being excited when I heard PS4 was getting a new Hot Shots. Wasn't pleased with the name change (Everybody's Golf is an awful name), but if it was more Hot Shots then who cares?

Then I saw gameplay… mother of god. Those character models, the UI, all the dopey shit going on around you, the stupid golf carts, running around the courses.

No.

I saw people complaining that this new game wasn't like the PS4 one. I want to suplex them.

For all the shit I gave Mario Golf Super Rush, at least it wasn't Everybody's Golf on the PS4…
 
Bought this today and as someone who vastly prefers the PS3 version to the PS4 one I'm loving this new entry. So good to have advanced shot swing type back. Now I just need to unlock Dino.

I don't find it distracting if that's what you mean. You can get used to the timing for the red ping for the full swing to the pin. There is also a shadow image of your club at the top of the backswing. It all sounds weird if you haven't messed with it yet. You can try it in the tutorials to get a feel for it.
It's the halfway golden ping that will be interesting to get the timing of, especially on putts.

I haven't run into any problems like this yet. I had one crash during, but that's it. I'm still only playing on Steam cuz I haven't gotten a Switch version to try.

I wonder if I've avoided this issue by not really playing World Tour mode much? I've mainly been playing challenge mode, and playing the first chapter off world tour when I need to unlock someone.
 
I think I've determined what the issue is...it's any hole that has water. The water causes the shot meter to flake out a large portion of the time. Turning down the detail and shadows does not seem to really help on the water holes.

I'm almost to the point where I literally can't play any more because the shot meter issues prevent me from scoring high enough to advance.

This game is so good and yet so bad at the same time. It's just so unpolished. 3 or 4 months worth or patches it might be 9/10 worthy instead of 7/10 like now.

9x30 =270 holes. I'd they really mean holes, not half rounds.

Probably more around 180. May depend on your score

Wait hah I think we're messed up. So I briefly read but this may not be accurate that to level one character max loyalty it was to play some type of tournament or what have you, that is 10 courses at 18 holes. So 180 holes to level a single character but if you level every 9 holes, that wouldn't be bad.

Man all this talk about holes

I haven't reached level 30 on a character yet but it takes a good chunk of playtime. It goes faster the better your stats get because you start making a ton of good shots.

So are there ways to level faster like for instance can you get more experience per hole if your character becomes godly, or is the exp capped?

I'm not really sure since I mash through all the progress bars when they pop up. You get more experience for Eagles and Hole-in-Ones among other things, which you start getting more frequently as your character improves.

I am still very early on in the Story and I have to say if they are going to team me up with CPU characters in Scramble matches or anything else, these cheery motherfuckers better start making putts. I got my ass handed to me in the first Scramble match last night. I did some practicing today and I am playing the Scramble match again; I just dropped a shot 2.5 ft. from the hole on the first hole, only for Lani's happy ass to miss it. The CPU team bogey'd and had she made it, we would have Par'd. This is the type of shit that I will quit a game over and never go back. There is a bonus for winning within 7 holes and this type of shit is going to interfere with that and that is absolutely not fair at all to the player.

EDIT: On the very next hole, Lani tee'd off. She hit an unplayable that didn't even reach the fairway from the tee box. But I gotta sit here and listen to the NPC chatter and say shit like, "You...ok there?" when I take a few seconds before swinging? Fuck this. I may have to try ECEG on NS2.
