Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots |OT| Par Deux

BennyBlanco BennyBlanco your absolute silence is giving me anxiety

The good news about the Switch version is you sorta adjust to the input lag. But it's still not ideal. Sometimes I'll slice the shit out of the ball and kill my drive.

I have only had time to play a few rounds. The camera and controls took some getting used to. I also feel like they removed a bunch of mechanics but they could just be gated behind unlocks.

Overall, I like it from what I've played. It's just a huge bummer that it looks like this and runs worse than fuckin Cyberpunk on Steam Deck. I am very likely gonna double dip on Switch 2.

I feel like pricing this at $40 was a good move.

can you do the thing where you do the opposite direction in the backswing, and then change direction in the downswing?
Can't tell if that is doing anything yet.
You can, but it has to be unlocked as a perk of sorts on a per character basis as you rank them up. Base level character has regular top/bottom/sidespin and, I believe, power shot by default.

Played a few hours tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. It does seem a bit zoomed in but all of the mainstays from the other games are there + new things. If you're a long time fan I can't imagine you won't enjoy it.

I loved the last one. Got it on PS5 today and wow very underwhelmed. Online with buds wasnt working at all so hopefully that fixes it but what the fuck. The default cam being on an angle can suck my tiny penis.

I got this yesterday for PS5, I'm enjoying it. I've played all the previous ones and it pulls straight from the PS3/Vita era, no hub world, just straight into menus (which is fine).

Graphics are nothing special, but it is smooth and most importantly a fun game to play.

They've tried to mix up the controls, I had to switch to Classic, but still there button assignment seems slightly off (I think O is hit and pretty sure it used to be X but maybe they used the Japanese convention) however it allows button reassignment too, so I'll have a play with that.

I haven't played any of the new modes yet, but it seems like there is a decent amount there.

Ultimately it is priced reasonably, and will be my solid goto golf game when I want a quick round or even settle in for an evening session. It feels great on Portal too 👍🏻

Mega cups are the size of manhole covers. It also seems your character animations can't be skipped which is annoying when they are blocking your ability to read a green.

I don't think anyone can make an argument against this sentiment. Even if we set aside performance issues and how simplistic it looks, it just misses so many details found in Clap Hanz efforts. It's like a comparing a labor of passion versus someone else making a product.

Yeah I saw the EG5 PS3 comparison as well. Like, res aside that version murders this in terms of lighting, foliage, clothing details etc. Remaster that and its instantly a better game.

Despite having an HDR toggle in the game menu, the game does not actually support it. My LG stays in SDR mode at all times. All the setting appears to do is add a bloom effect to some objects. I had to force the PS5's HDR to always on, which I believe adds a sort of fake auto HDR, but that combined with DTM tone mapping on the LG made the game look ten times better. I will happily piss on the developer's intention here.

weird, for some reason its not letting me pick any resolutions but 16:9 ones on my 57" Samsung Ultrawide.

Edit: more weird, the ultra wide resolutions show in Windowed mode but not borderless or fullscreen. so odd. Can't find the games config file in any of the normal places to try forcing a custom res.
A couple people a mentioned a similar issue on the Steam forums. Only 16:9 resolutions show for them. So weird.

yeah UW not working for me either. Seems like alot of odd glicthes in this game.
Last night saw a weird burnt in shadow background when playing a night course.

I had that happen. It was trees burnt in until I closed the game. I just kept playing. Made me wanna play the cure song a forest.

Yes, Out of Bounds looks vastly better. World Invitational was a step back due to it being designed around the weaker Vita, but even that looks better than this.

That said, the core gameplay is retained here, and that's the main thing. We definitely need the old courses as cheap DLC. Those were definitely better than what we have here.

Put a bunch more time in today and have finished eight character stories. I was wrong about on-the-fly power adjustments. Really happy I don't need to unlearn that muscle memory. Seem like all the mechanics from previous games in the series are in, so that's good news. I've also noticed the choppy swing meter only happens on certain courses, but I haven't been able to narrow down the conditions that cause it. I've had one game crash so far. The presentation is a combination of cheap and/or sloppy (repeating dialog, character emote animations that can't be skipped, shoddy camera work, certain modes not saving club/ball preferences). The game is also going to be much more of a grind than previous entries with caddy levels going to 20 and character levels going to 50. There are a ton of unlockable balls and clubs amongst other things, though I'd question how much utility those have based how previous games played out...though this game does have the benefit of more modes that might make some lesser used balls/clubs useful. My overall feelings have improved a bunch. Everybody's Golf is there at the core even if it fumbles the presentation and makes it much more grindy.

The talk of this game got me itching to play an arcade golf game. Hot Shots Golf on Vita, and its earlier iterations, were peak. But I thought the PS4 game with the world hub was bloated, and had too many loading screens.

Given the lukewarm reception of Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots, I ended up getting the earlier Clap Hanz game, Easy Come Easy Golf. I played it years ago on the Apple Arcade when I had a few free months of that. I remember enjoying it, but it was a bit bland.

Easy Come Easy Golf plays well on the Switch 2. There was a 60 fps patch on the release date of Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots.

I will wait for a patch and price drop before getting Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots.

How is the game in general? I've heard mixed things.

Finally found my groove here. I'm making all sorts of awesome shots. The re-learning curve is identical to prior games in the series. Incredibly satisfying. Still hunting for my first Albatross.

You definitely adjust to the input lag on Switch with enough time and practice. I know many won't be able to tolerate it, I've already seen posts from people getting successful refunds from Nintendo, it's that bad. But I'm willing grin and bear it since there's nothing else like it on the market right now. Hopefully HYDE can address the problems via patches because they have an amazing game here.

Easy Come Easy Golf is a pleasant, breezy game. The performance is good on the Switch 2. Course design is a bit drab.

It is not as good as the Vita and earlier Hot Shots games, which had more personality and more interesting courses.

It is a good game to chill out to, which is my expectation for arcade golf.

Dropping this here for anyone interested. Looks nice and smooth. That mobile UI is absolutely haram.

Edit: ^ this is how I imagined Hot Shots would run on Switch 2 and Steam Deck. 😅

Game is killing me. I started death stranding a few weeks ago with the idea that I would have plenty of time to finish it before final fantasy tactics releases. I beat it early, right before triangle strategy shadow dropped. Fine, I should be able to beat that before FFT comes out. Making good progress but now this game is sucking all my attention.
Little rough around the edges but still so fun.

This game is fun but it needs some updates.

1) Make the exit for the game obvious on the PC. It's like hidden there.
2) 10% of the time the swing gauge like lags and causes some sort of terrible shot.
3) When playing the scramble thing, your pc teammate turns into a pathetic golfer. My partner was hitting constantly into sand, out of bounds, etc. I just find that unacceptable that they don't at least play to the level of the other computer team.

What's the difficulty like? I'm interested but I'm a casual golfer not looking for a Golf Souls
It's a vibe game. Super laid back, cheerful and casual. You start off easy and slowly work your way up to more challenging courses. By the time you get there you have developed the skills needed to tackle that.

Characters can be fed food to level up their stats permanently. So you can essentially turn them into gods.

I can't say since I haven't played Easy Come Golf. Since it's a mobile game I imagine it's the easier of the two due to simpler mechanics.

Just figured out that food are permanent stat boosts…..
Yeah, I played through the whole of the first level of tournaments before I realised. I figured that as it was food they were consumables (temporary boosts) now I have been on a binge eating season I feel super overpowered 💪🏻

I do quite like this way of leveling up the stats though, either the game does a terrible way of messaging it, or I just clicked past any description (probably).

Also realised that the PS5 (Pro at least) has 120fps and VRR support that can be toggled on in the options (don't think it offered the option when I started so probably easily missed)

I think I've put about 10 hours in over the last couple of days, perfect whilst I half watch sports at the same time 👌🏻

As a huge fan of the series, this game is a colossal disappointment.

Peak HSG is HSG 2 and Fore! I don't know WTF this is, but it's not HSG.

Presentation and rather dull courses?

That's my gripe with this new game. Out of Bounds (EG5) would be my absolute favourite if it wasn't for the the fact you had to use the awful Advance Shots to not lose 15-20 years each time time.

I'd also say Fore! Is the peak of the series. It doesn't have any issues, and has incredible courses and progression.

Also finding it a bit crazy how a 3060 / 5700X is only getting around 80-90 FPS at 1080p and max GPU usage, yet I can emulate World Invitational via RPCS3 with 6K internal resolution, plus that looks a lot better than this game. Not Out of Bounds better, but still by a good amount.

I decided to go the PS5/Pro + Portal route. Reading all of the complaints on all systems I am just going to lower my expectations a bit. Also, I had $40 in my PSN account so I will convince myself I got it for free. :messenger_squinting_tongue:

Yea its dreadfully gpu hungry. Killing shadow detail helps but then it looks even worse compared to ps3 games.

Too bad neither ps3 game has fps unlocks though, and OOB needs the latest x3d chip overclocked and still won't hold 30.

100%. It already hit the visual fidelity of this new release on a ps2, and it just nailed the balance.

The core gameplay is there with lots to do and lots to unlock. Some of this is knitpick nostalgia glasses. It doesn't run great on steam deck but the actual gameplay part is smooth. Also runs great on my pc. I think it's great for $40. Could use some performance patches.

Looks like your character can only max stats so far. I got a notification that I hit a limit. May be dependent on your character's level.

I was really excited to get this. I'm a long time fan of HSG. I really loved OOB and world inv. and was disappointed in every release after those. The thought that they went back to basics sounded good to me.
Got it on switch.

I just played through a bit and I am disgusted. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Here are my thoughts:
Input lag? Not sure what the deal is with this, seems like the lag is intermittent.
Graphics slow downs. Stuttering, and slow downs in simple scenes. Give me a break. Runs horrible
Overall look/feel/play . One of the reasons I loved out of bounds was the near perfect feel and control. I never felt like it was the games fault that I missed. This game, however, feels off, slow, buggy, shitty.

Graphically, this is nothing special, certainly not better than the last 2 offerings.

Music is mediocre, using old clips from the previous games kind of makes it feel nostalgic, I suppose.
The voice overs are ANNOYING, getting a "What a high score" when you triple bogied 5 holes is annoying.

I am going to have to set up my ps3 to go get my golf vibes back. This is not the game I am hoping for.

I want my money back. If nothing else the buggy, bogged down gpu stuttering should be reason enough to get a refund. Shouldn't have been released like this.

Oh and one more thing. the swing meter, the tiny little line that you have to get just right on the pin is so damn small, when it is in motion it is barely visible. Its fucking frustrating.

Super disappointing, not fun, not well made, buggy, slow, uninteresting, trying so hard to be cute you just want to kick the TV in.
You can sense the lack of love and care that clap handz put into other releases. This feels like a thrown together money grab.
