Evolve Big Alpha Impressions/bugs/glitches thread

I hope they patch the PS4 version for matchmaking and extend the alpha again.

It would be such a waste if half the impressions were poor due to connection stuff. PC users had similar issues for the first few hours but they patched it and was working great afterwards. Some people load slow -_-

They better extend the alpha and patch the match making for PS4 users. The fact that it could take HOURS for just to get in a game is horrible and it's going to leave a bad taste for this game as a result. Even in Alpha.

how did this preview so well to press at events yet get blasted by gamers playing the alpha? why the disconnect?

I think a lot of people who are playing it really like it. The two complaints I see most often are connection issues and that there's not enough content for a 60 dollar game, neither of which would really matter to people playing a few matches at E3.

There are some balance issues but is is a Beta. And of course, some people legitimately don't like the game... but that's any game ever.

that grenade sounds far more useful than harpoons. Especially if you were to combine it with Hyde's grenades.

I'd be surprised if harpoons didn't get a buff though. They're soooo bad.

Harpoon gun or trap? The traps are crazy useful. The gun? Not as much, but still worth using.

This game is way more soulless than I had initially hoped it would be. The aesthetic doesn't feel particularly strong - it borrows visual elements from other titles but it doesn't end up doing any of them well. The gunplay feels weak and disconnected, the hunters' skills are woefully OP to start and then woefully underpowered once the creature hits stage 3. I get that they want that element, but it just doesn't make for a compelling play experience. Way too often there's just a giant cat and mouse game of hoping the creature fucks up or someone accidentally stumbles across it. The hunt should be far more active.

In my personal experience, the harpoon traps and Daisy were both equally utterly useless. The traps never seemed to hold the creature for longer than a second, and Daisy would get stuck on geometry or fail to gain the track of the creature, let alone when there were multiple people downed on the field. Character progression is stuck behind awful grind-bars and is, to be quite honest, too forced. The entire leveling system should be scrapped in favor of letting players customize their loadouts more.

I only ever played with friends, and while we had a few excellent rounds that were evenly matched, the general attitude among us all became one of indifference. This game has problems, and I don't think they're going to uproot everything that needs to be weeded out before launch.

They break so fast I don't even notice they're on me as the monster, and they're a total waste of time to drop mid-fight. I've yet to see a monster even get slowed down by them, even when we set up ahead of time.

One monster attack swipe will break them, yeah I find them rather useless.

I think they would work better as a timed hold instead of having HP, even if they grappled the monster for just a few seconds it's better then right now.

Dude I have completely decided fights with my trap usage. I've bee able to totally lock down a monster during a fight, the trick is to trap him from dirrerent directions so that he can't take out more than one trap with one swing. If he's got 3 traps from his back, he can swipe them all at once. Gotta surround him with the triangle method! It would be OP if the monster couldn't break them.

Also leaving traps at choke points on the map can be a good way to track him down if you're good or lucky.

Really? I feel the exact opposite. Harpoon traps have been useless since it takes a second for a monster to destroy it AND they can even destroy it before it even launches.

Harpoon guns on the other hand are great and pretty damn OP imo. It traps the monster twice as long as any harpoon trap would, I notice that they even go slower with Harpoon gun compared to harpoon trap, and I don't have to rely on the trap actually working or not (sometimes they just don't work period). I just rely on my aiming and then shoot.

ALSO, I love Griffen's sensor modules. Much more effective than that stupid dog Daisy who is slow and can be utterly retarded sometimes.

I chuckle when people make complaints of how useless a certain mechanic is. Just goes to show this game doesn't hand hold and requires actual skill and experience to play.

And just to clarify something, there's a delay after you place traps before they become active, so you're not going to get anywhere by placing them at the monster's feet.

I'm aware of that, and that's why it sucks. I don't get a dely or anything with harpoon gun. I can be as far or close as I want and just aim and shoot.

They work great up high on ledges. Especially against the Kraken. The harpoon gun is also great against a fleeing monster since he has to turn around to break them.

4 other players found! Let's go, finally!

Edit: It crashed. FML and this game

Edit 2: And now I can't sign in at all. Way to make me want to purchase your game, guys.

I got into a massive zero matches during hours of on and off searching, and now I have no faith in 2K to get these servers running. Unbelievable.

Alpha is officially over I think. Tried getting into a new match on PS4 but wouldn't let me login on 2K's servers.

Was a pretty decent game the few times I actually got into a match, especially as the monster. What a clusterfuck the matchmaking was though.

Being ground to dust your first few matches because the game tells you next to nothing about the gameplay is not a test of skill - it is a test of patience.

Hopefully the current "tutorials" and introductions are alpha exclusive, with something more significant in the final product - specifically a way to test a character and their abilities/upgrades on your own terms without the pressure of an ongoing multiplayer match. I say this because games as player-intensive as Evolve need all the help they can get in garnering a sustained playerbase, and kicking players down as they enter is not the way to do it. Evolve can - and should - do better.

I've seen countless high level players with mics not be able to work together as a team and take down the monster. You definitely need more than just patience and experience to get good at the game.

Well I enjoyed the game way more than I thought I would, especially since I'm playing alone. Not sure if I can justify the $60 price tag though. If it were 40 I would be there day one.

The game seems to have a very fine line between a satisfying competitive match, and a complete blowout. I don't think that means it's inherently bad, but the harder it is to find that sweet spot, the less likely people are to stick with it.

Tweaking damage/health/speed etc. on classes/weapons before release is easy enough. Addressing that tipping point between a fun match and a complete blowout may be much harder.

Did they shutoff the alpha before people could even play it?

Lmao these fucking clowns

Yeah I was JUST able to get in 2 games today after a while of getting in matches from those disconnects.

They completely screwed up the PS4 Alpha and never bothered to fix/patch it like they did to the other 2 platforms. :(

The hunting has GOT to be a lot more active than the current one. It's basically just a game of cat and mouse until the monster evolves to stage 3. And even then, more run away until the clock timer starts and forces the monster to actually fight.

I stopped trying to play last night after the game crashed a dozen times in a row, kind of ridiculous. Thought they said it was fixed. The alpha was going to determine whether or not I was going to plan on purchasing it as well so it looks like I'll maybe be getting something else come February like Bloodborne, The Order or The Witcher 3.

A streamer I follow played as the monster against Turtle Rock devs four times and won three times. The one time he lost was because he was fooling around by trying to wipe them at spawn. Here are the videos:

And yea... a good monster is OP. I hope Turtle Rock fixes the balance problems. But then again the L4D games had serious balance problems as well which is why the mods frusmod and confogl were created.

I don't know. The first video it seemed like the hunters were in control of that entire game until the monster guy got the 35% damage buff and wrecked havec.

Probably what needs to happen is the buffs need to be nerfed if anything.

I didn't know you could only get one buff and they swapped out when you picked up a new one. Maybe buffs should be much weaker, but they stack with eachother.

They stack? Everytime I got a buff and then a few seconds later I find a new one, that buff is immediately replaced. Could have fooled me. XD

This thing even online still? I got into only 3 matches, and my impressions were lukewarm. Love and hate. Terrible that they even released this when some hoping to play the game couldn't even find a match.

I'll probably pick it up after a price drop based off what I've played anyway.

Last alpha automatically deleted the files when it was over.
That was only because Turtle Rock pushed an update that deleted the files. Steam needs to fix it so that betas and free weekends automatically delete themselves when they're over instead of having to rely on the devs to do it for them.

On Xbox One (preview program).

Really disappointed in the game. I assume because I was playing with randoms. I always suspected this game would require friends and since I don't have any buying this game I'm basically forced to skip it.

Even so, something about the gameplay feels off. Especially as the monster.

I was saying maybe they should make the buffs much weaker, but allow them to stack. So a monster won't find a single buff and get 35%+ damage, but at the same time he can farm up to that high if he makes enough space for himself and stays hidden, you know?

Just some thoughts.

The buffs are actually predictable atleast(the same animal types drop the same buff), even if I wasn't seeing it happen whatsoever in the alpha one of the turtle rock matches I watched had them camp out around the corpse that gives the monster a strong buff so he couldn't eat it before the corpse decomposed.

You can also do stuff like put landmines all around it, kill the animal and get the buff for your team then use Lazarus to revive it, things like that since these are from the bigger monsters.

I tried to join a game right now, but it isn't going through. So i guess the alpha is over. Disappointed. Got it on day one, and was only able to play one match. Which was today before heading to class. Maybe the beta will be better?

That actually sounds like it could work better than the current system, but it's too late now to implement. Testing and balancing it would take too long, I don't have a solid opinion on the balance now haha.

I don't think that's true. My gf and I have gotten different buffs from the same kill once.

I got move speed and she got recharge speed or something.

This I know for sure can't be right. All hunters get the same buff from a corpse, you guys must have gotten your buffs from different corpses.
