Evolve |OT| Leaving Monsters 4 Dead

Agreed. I don't think any of the monsters are OP as long as you have teammates who know what they are doing.

Just like you said - spreading out, medic staying out of combat, using the map to track, etc. There are quite a few small things which people don't pay notice in the game that helps them keep up with the monster (or hunters)

I think this is the big part. I was working from home today and had some streams on interspersed with some playing and there were just some mind bogglingly bad players on the hunter side.

Has anyone ever played with a Griffin who wasn't completely and utterly useless? Even the most incompetent monsters I've fought have been able to easily avoid the sound spikes and people seem to have zero ability to ever land the harpoon. Whenever I see a teammate pick Griffin I just sigh and assume the upcoming round is going to be a disaster.

I think he's the hardest trapper to play, but he can be solid. My biggest issue atm is I find it really hard to use him specifically with the Wraith, which is curbing me from picking him more. Against her, she can still warp blast/warp even while harpooned, and it's so easy to just have it snap with her all over the place fighting. The best thing I found was if they decoy in front of you, he can harpoon the real one even if it's invisible, and if she tries to snap that the decoy will go away. The issue there is the decoy itself still may just rush Griffin and you can't really do anything about that.

They've got to put something in to prevent birds circling on the monster right at the start. I had a round tonight as Goliath where I ran into the river, backtracked to start hunting and the second thing I killed brought in the birds right after the hunters landed. Granted I was in a bad spot and ended up being after a couple of jumps for them, but in the replay they were following my tracks then immediately turned back for the birds.

Pretty bullshit putting effort into hiding at the start and getting screwed by RNG birds. =/

I do agree that it really sucks when do stuff like make an intentional trail the wrong way, then sneak off and get birds immediately. Makes you waste so much time.

Yeah, especially since I really enjoy playing the sneaky style until stage 2. Normally I can get to stage 2 without anybody seeing me. Watching this one guy play on twitch, though, it's pretty clear that you're going to be better off running, eating, running, eating, etc.

Edit: Maybe not better off, but it works just fine.

Yeah, that's basically what I'd expect versus the Wraith. It just seems like there's no context where a Griffin is better than Abe or even Maggie. Maybe at incredibly high level play. For general matchmaking with randoms, he seems absolutely terrible.

Yeah, I've personally rarely taken stealthy approaches early on and just gun it for pure distance. It's important to atleast note the trapper, as with Maggie & Daisy it's not worth going for stealth, but it's stronger vs. Griffin and Abe. Even if you get unlucky birds, you can hang around the area and hide nearby, even if it's as silly as using a bush and watching the hunters pass. With no Daisy to point you out it's surprising how effective stuff like that can be.

Everybody says it's OP but I cannot win with this monster. I win like 90% of the time with Goliath but Kraken just doesn't work for me.

Stay in the air. Lighting strike and vortex are your friend. Target Medic. Make sure you don't get trapped inside, in a cave, etc but a wide open area.

I feel like I misunderstand the mechanics of flying with this character. I can never stay in the air very long, especially in a fight.

If they are shooting at you then your agility should recharge very fast. You can aim directly up or down to make sure that your "boost" is keeping you in the air.

Well, I was actually able to win an entire evacuation as the monster. Man was it stressful. Everything was pretty easy except for defend. That was tough. I destroyed the final generator with only 3 seconds left before the hunters won. So satisfying and so damn stressful.

I'm done with this game, really like the idea, but execution leaves a bit to be desired. 100% of the time I choose co-op evacuation. 99% of the time it sticks me in hunt. If I quit and retry for evacuation, I get a 60 second time out. Thanks but no thanks.

I finally won a game with the monster, actually won a couple today. I couldn't help but start with rock throw maxed out, while effective I find it incredibly cheesy. I messed around with a charge and flame breath as well which require a bit more skill.
Have to admit that playing monster really gets your heart pumping.

On the hunter side I've really started to get annoyed at people who pre-emptively shoot at the monster, there's been so many times over the last couple of days where if only people didn't shoot at the thing while feeding, the trapper would've been able to dome him. Usually those matches are the ones that take 20+ minutes (or we even win by time out because the monster didn't attack). I honestly don't see the fun in running away, when I play Goliath I don't even make level 3.

I got thrown into a match yesterday as a LVL3 Behemoth and I had to destroy the power relays, I guess it's the last map at Evacuation? However, I only managed to destroy one and got destroyed pretty badly. I have problems picking out what classes the Hunters are sometimes and I don't really know where I should focus. It's tough to play as the monsters, seems easier when I face them, hah.

Didn't think Evac mode would be so fun. Time-consuming, but the variables added make it so much better than Skirmish mode.

I want to like it, but I go down so fast and can't avoid the Hunters at all, despite me doing all the handy tricks I get.

If you have the fast feeding perk, try using that. I find it to be the best perk for the monster by far, personally. When playing as Goliath, putting all of your three initial points into the fire breath ability makes hunting for prey fast and easy. You'll evolve in no time. If you do get caught in the bubble at stage 1, don't try to fight the hunters. Just jump/fly/teleport all over the place until the arena goes down; the hunters will have a hard time hitting you and the life that you'll lose will be minimal.

A speed-boosted Caira firing grenades at her feet while running away is still going to be destroyed in short order by a fully-committed Wraith

Yup. Especially when taking into consideration that hunters are slowed down whenever they fire their weapons. Simply put, a Caira player, no matter how skilled, can't heal themselves while running away from the monster.

You need to clear this up real quick:

Are you saying when you enter evacuation it actually throws you into skirmish, which is the mode where you only play one round of hunt after another or are you saying that when you enter evacuation you get put into a round of hunt which is a normal part of the evacuation campaign?

I am confused.

Nice, very nice. I always seem to sturggle on the defend mission as a monster. I just can't get past the 2nd gen if I play Goliath.

A big part of Defend is getting those turrets down, focus them first. Otherwise try to coordinate an attack when the minions are coming so they can go unopposed at the generators. If you leave turrets up, they're enough to kill the minions themselves. Most people will focus on you while they break it up in the background--or, even better, the team splits focus and doesn't excel at damaging either on.

Also, man Assault is really growing on me. I feel like I've improved my general movement and fuel management a ton playing Trapper, but it still naturally holds over in this class as I aggressively get in close position of the monster, or attack from midair while hovering around. I really like playing any role in this game, which is not something I usually feel.

Same here, I don't have a single class I can't play or don't enjoy. I can jump around however i want in the team and enjoy myself while doing well.

"Man, you're the best Trapper I played with yet, can I add you on Steam?"

Yeah, Caira can't save herself against a committed monster, but she pumps out the most healing to the team by far. I was astonished how easy it was to keep people up even against a stage 3 goliath. Frankly she has to be the focus of the monster unless they're just trying to get away and they have the trapper out of her LOS.

Oh yeah. I think she's a much better medic than Val, personally. The effect of Val's healing gun is so obnoxious that it catches the monster's attention way too easily, allowing it to identify who the medic is in an instant. Plus, being able to use Caira's grenade launcher to heal oneself is a big deal.

This is the best MP game I've played since getting my PS4 at launch. It's my new COD4 MP game.
I just love when it clicks and when the monster player says good game everyone when we're finished.
Join a good team and you'll have a blast, I just hope the devs are preparing a really good update.

I use Griffin all the time and find him the best of the Trappers. The Harpoon gun is easily my favorite item of the Trappers. That thing has helped us win a few matches alone. However, I think I prefer using the 3rd Trapper against the Wraith since the grenades are more effective for slowing it down.

It puts me in skirmish instead of campaign, even though I choose campaign in matchmaking

Part of me wonders what it would be like or if they should make it so player names weren't color coded when playing as the monster. Make it so a Monster has to pay attention a bit more to focus down classes.

Weird. Y'sure? Evacuation has Hunt as the first part, usually.....

i played a couple of online matches with some strangers yesterday
and it was terrible. none of the people i played with knew what to do.
medic never healed, trapper never used the arena.

so far i can totally agree with someone who said it plays better with bots.
i can only imagine how awesome it must be to play with a full party and
everybody knows what they're doing.

please add me, i really need some people to play with!!!

Yes, when/if I stick around and finish the round, it loads right back into a hunt match

can you capture footage of this?

I will do so when I get home around 4pm pst

Am I the only one who wants a mode where you need to capture the Monster, instead of killing it?
No idea how it can work, but sounds more interesting to me. Maybe a mode where wildlife is amped up, but the actual Monster does not need to be killed, only captured, or trapped long enough for a dropship to get it.

That's not really going to be much different than killing it though.
