F1 2015 is looking FANTASTIC

I think Codemasters are in problems and this game will be very important for their future.

We heard about halving of the actual team before and IIRC no F1 release after 2011 was commercialy successful. I think F1 Stars also missed internal forceast, while F1 Online project was sent strictly to die.

Also, the investment in the RaceNet probably never paid-off simply because it was never fully developed as probably intended.

I loved new TOCA and it was faboulus game, but it also missed commercial success.

I think they have extreme issues with focus groups and actual design and expectarions from the communities. Also, despite being amazing, new Dirt is still far from being commercial.

With extremely expensive licence they have to pay to FOMA for F1 and running costs, I think it is not easy to develop commercial hit. And IMO, they need one. Desperately.

They have definitely been having problems and not hitting sales forecasts. Not sure how this game will do for them but they need a win soon.

Also, don't get me wrong, I haven't been the biggest fan of the F1 games, haven't bought one since 12, I have ordered this one as I got it for £35 and I want to see how the new engine is physics wise though.

it's a shame that the F1 license might be killing a great developer. It costs so damn much and both EA and Sony let it go. Activision didn't get it when they had Bizarre Creations.

codemasters has made great stuff, would be nice if they just made solid Dirt and Grid games that sold well enough.

My brief impressions after my first championship season race at Australia:

* Handling can be unforgiving without assists, especially in the wet. Cars seem to have a lot of understeer dialled in by default. Physics are a step up from past games, imho. Although...

* Cannot get the brakes to lock up. There's an audio hint it's happening but nothing through the pad or visually (no smoke either).

* Engineer audio mix is far too quiet.

* Clean and intuitive UI.

* Australia looks very washed out.

* Not at all happy with not being able to choose practice and quali length independent of race length. This needs patching in an as a customisable set of options asap.

* AI seem more aware and will attempt to defend/attack.

All in all a solid effort but not without some quirks that the D1P will hopefully iron out.

Any questions feel free to ask...

Yeah, it's a shame. But AFAIK almost all annual sports franchises have suffered from this syndrome during their migration to next-gen. The resources apparently are not sufficient to develop a brand new next-gen engine and port all features of previous games to it at the same time.

The problem I have with Codemasters is that ignoring the next gen thing, the game they produced for the last gen, F1 2014, probably had fewer features than the first game they made for that gen. Really basic stuff they are leaving out without any reasonable explanation.

They only have themselves to blame, they stopped making other games and started developing racing games only under Codemasters Racing brand. All their eggs in one basket.

That was just a cash in because they knew the next-gen version wasn't going to be ready in time, in theory 2015 was supposed to be out a lot earlier but now we are getting it only a couple of months earlier.

Hows the overall sound of the game?

Does it look like its had an overhaul gfx wise?

The sound is good although i haven't given it a proper workout through my heaphones yet. They do need to sort the audio mix for the engineer as he's inaudible at times, even with voice set to 100.

Graphics are great overall but Australia did look terribly washed out to me.

Also, quick tip: make sure to choose what tyres you want at your next pitstop using up on the d-pad so that you use both compounds as per the regs.

Not being able to full lock the wheels under breaking? how many balls are codies going to drop with this game...

There's a lot of small details which all add up and make formula 1 racing what it is and this game somehow has little to none of it.

How is the tyre wear if your doing a less than half distance race?

It seemed good to me. The primes were starting to go off towards the end of my first stint (wet quali) and the wear didn't seem as canned as the last games. Admittedly my hands-on time is limited so far.

My playthrough is limited so far so lockups maybe present under different conditions or after the D1P. However, one practice, quali, race and time trial session didn't show a hint of lockup (despite my best efforts to induce them whilst running without any assists).

What does the difference between the game and a random real-world lap time have to do with the difficultly levels?

Because the difference between the real time and the AI times are different on every track.

So on one circuit you're competitive and the next miles behind or finding it too easy.

Again, I don't understand how you can come to this conclusion from this single comparison. I must be missing something here...

Kie says it's easy, maybe to easy to lock up if ABS is off.

To add to my comments from earlier, the three qualifying session 100% races restriction only applies to Championship mode. Quick races have everything adjustable as per the previous games.

So in theory you could still conduct a season via quick race and manually calculate points I guess lol.

Oh and in a similar manner, adding AI cars to online lobbies is still a thing, so you could manually create co-op seasons to make up for that missing feature.

Also in terms of locking up brakes, the streams I've watched with people running no assists have shown plenty of what look like brake lockups, tyre screeching and all. Whether that actually impacts braking distance is kinda hard to judge. There's no flatspotting in the tyre model I guess so one major penalty of lockups won't happen here anyway.

As i said initially, there were audio cues that i'd locked up but nothing visually or through the controller. Perhaps it's isolated as my playthrough is admittedly slim. However, all assists were off and i had the left trigger pulled to the stops approaching turn in. Strange. Hopefully longer playtime exhibits for me what Kie is enjoying :)

Also, there seemed a distinct lack of rumble trigger feedback...

I'm worried now that i'm doing something wrong my end :( I want lockups!!!

It would be nice if heavy locking up of the wheels would result in screen vibrations at high speeds until you change tyres, even if it's only a small change.

If you want to know more about Formula 1, I think the Alt+F1 podcast's pre-season timer episode from 2014 (big regulation changes in that year, so good starting point timing-wise) is a great way to start understanding the rules and some of the history.

Long time F1 fan Danny O'Dwyer of Gamespot explains the Formula 1 sport to complete newcomer Drew Scanlon of Giant Bomb.

Thanks! Very helpful. I'm really curious about how this will turn out. To the very untrained eye, it looks wonderful.

There's always someone else to blame for the game's shortcomings, FOM, license... REASONS...

I still think F1 99-02 is the best F1-sim out there.

I have F1 2014, and it sucked compared to F1 99-02, so I will pass this one.
Such a great game... the only problem with it is no in game save, doing a full 1 hour practice + 1 hour qualifying AND the race is just too mindmelting

I've been playing this game for few days now and my conclusion is it's been rushed, the actual driving is ok slightly more sim based than previous games. But it's missing so many features, I've downloaded the patch and still no option to create a public custom lobby on PS4, No co-op, no safety car, setup options probably most limited out every f1 game that's been released.

On the track the physics feel ok, but the AI are to aggressive on legend, also I've just had 1-1 wing on in Ferrari and a redbull just went past me like I was in a hot hatch, and we was not in a drs zone.

Also the f12010 pitstop bug has returned, I was in the pits for 20 seconds waiting, there was clear gaps to let me out the game was being to cautious.

With regards to the wheels locking up are you using wheel or pad as on my t500rs with abs off the wheels lock up more than any previous f1 game that I've played.

I've had this pre-ordered on PS Store where it says 'released 10th July, available 9th July', which I assumed to mean it would be available to pre-load as of now. But an hour into the 9th and it still won't download. Any ideas?

Oh god at the 2010 pit stop bug.

Maybe they should have just waited until later in the year like usual.

What the hell, seriously? :-(

kie25, you've had the patch already? There's nothing so far for XB1. Not good to hear about that damned pit bug either.

Edit: just raced Malaysia. Seems there are lockups and that it was just my setup. Cannot unsee the helicopters with the rotar blades that don't rotate or the jet that lags through the sky :(

Hey, eyes on the road!

I also think I've come across a very annoying bug in the AI, last night I was trying to get some race footage around Mexico but when a AI car was behind me they seem to randomly turn into my bk tyres and spin me, I've got 2 separate incidents recorded, I'll try get them uploaded today, 1 was going down main straight and the AI randomly turned right, it's happened about 20 times now.I gave up in the end as being kept in the pits for 20 seconds after my tyres was done was a joke, also noticed that AI were double stacking cars in pits when there was no need to do it, surely the game can work out that if one team car pits the other pits next lap, this was partly the cause the pit delay aswell.

A 10 place grid penalty awaits you in the next race.

Good job it was time trial ;) it's really strange the cutting system is much better than previous versions, but it seems to let you off in certain corners like after 2nd split fast left but other corners you couldn't put inch car wide, maybe they work out there track limits by real race guidelines, as f1 seem to allow running wide 1 corner but not the next lol.

Kinda glad I've held off until reviews and more impressions land. I really need my F1 fix though.

What time us the OT due? I think VE3TRO had claimed it if I remember rightly.

OT is ready but I couldn't remember if its allowed to go up the day before release or on the day. If I can put up today I'll publish it around 5pm BST.

Oh nice! :) Yeah I'm not sure myself either haha, I'm sure it will be a good one!

My digital preorder is ready at midnight tonight so I'll post a few impressions after a race or two, I really don't know what to make at the moment from what I've heard. I like the sound of the car handling but the fact that we've gone back 5 or 6 years in terms of features really disappoints me.

Wait there's no co-op? I though F1 2015 was supposed to have a local splitscreen mode?

Yes, but you need 2 tv's and 2 consoles stuck next to each other, then you use your imagination for the rest.

Damn, no splitscreen makes me want to not buy this at all. Was honestly only considering this for the local multiplayer. Might go with Project Cars instead.

Cars has its own set of problems but lack of features/content certainly isnt one of them.
