Critic Reviews

Areajugones - Cristian M. Villa - Spanish - 7 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 is a complex project; on the one hand, it encompasses the end of the anime while on the other hand it leaves multiple story arcs untouched. Nevertheless, it also provides original content through character interactions as well as a never before seen original storyline. Gameplay-wise, the reworked battle system helps, but in the end it becomes kind of repetitive after not that many hours. Overall, it is a videogame that will be appreciated specially by fans of the anime.

CGMagazine - Khari Taylor - 7 / 10
The final chapter in the Fairy Tail franchise, Fairy Tail 2, has arrived on consoles and PC.

Capsule Computers - Travis Bruno - 7.5 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 revamps its combat into a more action focused one that flows nicely and looks great while the story might be trimmed at places but still will please fans of the with its extra content.

Cerealkillerz - Nick Erlenhof - German - 7.7 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 has wonderfully refreshed the battle system from the first one and now lets you play through the story from the original brilliantly right up to the finale. The music and the Japanese dubbing roles really bring out the magic of the series and should get you through the game well as a fan, as the world outside of the story unfortunately offers little and sometimes feels a little lifeless.

The long-and-short of Fairy Tail 2 is that it’s a perfectly competent JRPG by one of the true specialists of the genre. It’s not going to be remembered as Gust’s finest work, and is more of a play-and-forget experience. This is a year that has given us everything from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Metaphor, a mind-blowingly good remake of Romancing SaGa 2 and, arguably, the finest Yakuza game yet with Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. In comparison to all of that Fairy Tail’s by-the-numbers approach will seem routine. But it’s also got all the hallmarks we come to expect from Gust – this is comfort food gaming for JRPG enthusiasts, using strong material well. Sometimes, that’s all you need.

Although it is a sequel, those unfamiliar with the franchise will find an adequate introduction that provides a detailed insight into the world. You'll have the opportunity to get to know the protagonists and the complete story from the previous installment, opening the door to solid entertainment if you're a fan of this type of game. With unimpressive graphics but a good combat system, Fairy Tail 2 will be an enjoyable game for genre enthusiasts, franchise fans, or consumers of light anime entertainment.

EvelonGames - Joel Isern Rodríguez - Kaym - Spanish - 7.5 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 is the kind of game that, despite its flaws, manages to deliver an enjoyable experience for the anime's loyal fans. It’s not a perfect adaptation or an RPG that will redefine the genre, but it is a decent tribute that captures the essence of the Fairy Tail guild and its characters. The hybrid combat system, while it can become repetitive, adds dynamism, and the additional stories provide emotional and fun moments that we didn't see in the anime.

Everyeye.it - Antonello Bello - Italian - 6.7 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 had the duty to unleash the great latent potential of the first episode, but unfortunately the developer missed the mark, making an overall inferior title to the previous one.

Final Weapon - Angelus Victor - 3 / 5
Fairy Tail 2 is a compelling action RPG that provides fans with the super-anticipated Alvarez arc. However, its efforts to make itself as accessible end up missing the landing, resulting in a rather unpolished experience that makes it hard to justify the cost.

GAMES.CH - Franziska Behner - German - 79%
Fairy Tail 2 is made for fans who can enjoy the well-implemented attacks. Visually appealing and exciting, especially thanks to the many effects and the story moves along quickly. However, it's still somehow just typical JRPG uniformity that would like to have more individuality.

Game Rant - Matt Karoglou - 6 / 10
Gust and Koei Tecmo's Fairy Tail 2 does a great job of enveloping players in the story of the anime, even if its mechanics leave a bit to be desired.

GameGrin - Mike Crewe - 7.5 / 10
A definite recommendation for Fairy Tail fans, Fairy Tail 2 has its issues, mainly with pacing, but the overall package is an enjoyable journey with a beloved cast of characters.

Gameliner - Philip Zeldenthuis - Dutch - 2.5 / 5
Fairy Tail 2 is a game designed for fans, offering the chance to finally experience the conclusion of Fairy Tail and battle enemies and the Spriggan 12 with favorite characters, but despite some interesting elements like special bosses, collectibles, and iconic locations, it lacks variety in combat and falls short in storytelling, gameplay, and immersion compared to titles like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, making it a missed opportunity.

God is a Geek - Lyle Pendle - 8 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 is a wonderful continuation of this RPG anime adaptation, with fast paced flashy combat and a gorgeous world to explore.

Hinsusta - Pascal Kaap - German - 8 / 10
FAIRY TAIL 2 is the best FAIRY TAIL game in the series and impresses with an outstanding story that captivates to the end and features emotional climaxes. KOEI TECMO Europe and developer Gust once again prove their skills in the action genre and deliver a gripping gaming experience. The combat system deserves a special mention, as it shines in the test with its versatility and innovative mechanics. It offers both tactical depth and thrilling action and ensures that every battle is an exciting experience.

Hobby Consolas - José Carlos Pozo - Spanish - 73 / 100
Although it still sins with the language problem, Fairy Tail 2 improves a lot over its previous installment by offering us a new combat system and a graphic quality that will undoubtedly excite anime lovers.

IGN Italy - Alessandra Borgonovo - Italian - 5.5 / 10
A second chapter completely bland, victim of a loop that leads to tedium after a handful of hours without even the fanservice being able to fuel it.

MonsterVine - Nick Mangiaracina - 2.5 / 5
Fairy Tail 2 throws you right into the action of the final chapter of the Alvarez Empire Arc but does little to help out anyone who might be unfamiliar with the series outside of the games. Along with several bugs, performance issues, and strange UI decisions, unless you’re a fan of the series, Fairy Tail 2 can be skipped.

Niche Gamer - Matt Kowalski - 7.5 / 10
If you are a lover of Fairy Tail and just want to relive the Fairy Tail final Arc, then it is worth picking up Fairy Tail 2 as it’s a fun JRPG.

Nintendo Life - Mitch Vogel - 7 / 10
Though it's an improvement on its predecessor, Fairy Tail 2 is still the epitome of a middle-of-the-road licensed game. It doesn't do anything exceptionally great or innovative, nor does it have any issues or shortcomings that significantly drag it down. Despite poor plot pacing, shallow mechanics, and some lacklustre performance, the lively combat system, rewarding exploration, and heartwarming character interactions ultimately make this one worthwhile. We'd recommend Fairy Tail 2 to franchise fans who played the previous RPG, though newcomers should be more wary of jumping straight in. It isn't a 'run out and buy it immediately' release, but you likely won't be disappointed if or when you do get around to it.

NintendoBoy - Ivanir Ignacchitti - Portuguese - 8.5 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 manages to evolve the concept of adapting the series to the RPG format in an interesting way, though it behind a bit of the softhearted adventurer charm of the franchise in exchange for an open-ish world. Despite performance issues on Switch and adapting a late plot in the franchise too quickly, the frantic action and combat mechanic depth really stand out and promise a satisfying experience for fans of the genre.

PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 80 / 100
Fairy Tail 2 is a good RPG that excellently adapts the events of the manga/anime's final arc. It is a full plate for fans with its good combat system and good representation of the characters, even if its technical limitations hinder the game's potential.

Pizza Fria - Matheus Jenevain - Portuguese - 7.6 / 10
FAIRY TAIL 2 was an interesting experience for me, for several reasons. However, I think the game still lacks in some essential points that prevent it from being a truly exceptional experience.

RPG Fan - Audra Bowling - 79%
Solid simple action RPG mechanics, good music, likable characters, peak shonen anime storytelling if that’s your thing.

RPGamer - Ezra Kinnell - 2.5 / 5
While the gameplay systems are solid, they aren’t enough of a positive to overcome that fans would likely receive a more complete narrative elsewhere. Add to that the game’s technical issues, and Fairy Tail 2 ends up being hard to recommend.

Shacknews - Lucas White - 7 / 10
As it stands, fans of Mashima’s fantasy epic will still probably have a good time seeing this version of the story through (and checking out the new epilogue!), but Fairy Tail 2 doesn’t get any closer to must-play status than the previous game, and oddly enough for different reasons.

Siliconera - Leigh Price - 7 / 10
If you’re a fan of the series, Fairy Tail 2 is a great time, although technical issues on Switch hinder the experience.

Spaziogames - Italian - 6.3 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 is a title that struggles to convey the genuine fun typical of the adventures born from Hiro Mashima's pen. Behind a combat system that is overall decent and enjoyable-particularly in small doses and during boss fights-lies a formulaic and at times fragile JRPG that fails to rise above mere mediocrity. A major disappointment, it is recommended only for die-hard Fairy Tail fans who might still be able to overlook its evident shortcomings.

SteamDeckHQ - Oliver Stogden - 3.5 / 5
Fairy Tail 2 is a simplistic approach to the JRPG genre. It has an easy-to-understand combat system, a fairly straightforward storyline, and minimal effort required on the part of the player to maximize the efficiency of equipment and items. It's a good compromise for someone who wants the gameplay and storyline of a JRPG without all the unnecessary party management. The story might be a little simplistic, but overall, the game is a good time.

The game runs pretty well on Steam Deck. You won't be getting a 60 FPS experience here, but 40 FPS with the occasional drop was perfectly fine for my playthrough. The controls work beautifully, and although we do get black borders due to the lack of proper resolution support, the game itself plays fine.

The Games Machine - Nicholas Mercurio - Italian - 7 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 improves the combat system, now clearly more action, but it fails to create a playful structure without depth and with few positive sides within it. It is a rather compassionate adventure, which still manages to entertain but not to upset the cards on the table.

The Outerhaven Productions - Scott Adams - 3.5 / 5
Fairy Tail 2 was a fun and addicting time with great animations. It still suffers from choices made during the first game, but it is still a good time for Fairy Tail fans.

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 7.5 / 10
Fairy Tail 2 seems like a perfectly lovely RPG for fans of the franchise. It doesn't break any molds, and it leans heavily on fan service, but if all you want is a chance to play an RPG with your favorite cast members, it does the job. The over-the-top combat styling keeps things interesting in what would otherwise be a generic button-mashing experience, and there are enough RPG mechanics to provide the satisfaction of tricking out your favorite characters. It's not a game for people who are unfamiliar with the series, but Fairy Tail fans will be quite delighted by the experience.
