A and E are very distinct in English.
A and A are not even the same in American English and British English, so we really need to specify
1. Which English
2. In which position the letter is in the word.
That was why I was using phonetic language æ. American's (often) say cæn't instead of the English can't.
The æ from the American 'hat' sounds (for me) exactly the same as the e from the American 'wet'.
