Except that isn't what makes them good at all, and the best Lego Games; Batman, Marvel, City, have no attachment to films.
They are cute, funny and have a lot of clever puzzles.

I have all the Lego Harry Potters and Lego LOTR on Steam, but I still haven't downloaded them. Shame be to my bloated Steam account.
hey it's cool if you like them. not everyone has to like what I like
to be fair, I have only played lego lord of the rings and avengers. I really wanted to like them but the whole thing was just so mindless it was insulting
and the gameplay itself. it's like there is no hit detection whatsoever. you just mash on buttons and stuff happens. things just blink out of existence. it's weird.

it caters to the super fans of whatever property they are adapting.
which is fine. remove the property though and you have a subpar 3d beat-em-up.

i was more under the impression that they were for kids more than fans. familiar quality across multiple ips works very well for something you're going to market to kids

I've honestly never played one of the console Lego games. The Star Wars title is tempting though.
Speaking of games im playing Dishonored for the first time. Pretty cool, this game might catch on. Maybe they'll make a 2nd one.
Dishonored is one of the best games from last gen
pretty much a steampunk Predator simulator. I loved the freedom that it gave the player.

They are simple but polished action games with some neat puzzles and cute gags. They aren't particularly DEEP AND THOUGHTFUL, but they don't need to. Not every game has to feature some garbage pseudophilosophical background like Metal Gear or BioShock. They are solid and well rounded, and just for that they are better than 90% of the games out there.
I was huge into Legos as a kid. That was my main draw. I pretty much 100% that first game. They're fun and well put together for what they are.

I mean, right now I'm playing the shit out of D&D Shadow over Mystara and it's a fairly simple beat 'em up. It just happens to be crazy polished and fun. It stood the passage of time.

I'd agree but only polished relative to what it is. They definitely figured out exactly what they wanted to make and made it.
The issue I've had is that there isn't enough variation in what you do and there is very little apparent reward. It reminds me of a mobile game tbh (which people are really into those too)
Lego City definitely seemed to fix all of this pretty well and i presume other lego games might have ran with that formula. Still not my style but at the very least it gives a real feeling of progression and plays even harder into the style of humor they're going for
definitely better than pesudopholosophical games either way.

I like the second Batman one and the Lord of the Rings one the best. Also my sister's playing the Force Awakens one right now, and it looks pretty neat. She doesn't like the coop play though because most missions feel like they are only designed for one person at a time to be doing the main thing.

I can't play them for too long because I do find them repetitive but I am grateful that they are what finally got Kark to understand my love for superheroes.
you know I'd like a 3d game where you can play as a bunch of different DC characters in different costumes and such and has amusing crossover stories
unfortunately, injustice sucks and infinite crisis completely fell through. Probably would have to be another fighting game i think where its like other fighting games where each character has their own campaign with short exposition and character interaction in between instead of a crappy one thats fully animated. do it in comic panels even
I think what i want is a game that gives me the feeling that overwatch does, gives each character personality and is a competent game in its own right.
I could see marvel characters fitting an overwatch style game better though
