I would not say "really" small but yes its smaller than F3 and FNV, but way more dense, you will stumble upon location after location. Its a different approach than in both its predecessors, I like it. Theres enough stuff to do trust me...

Im just worried ive seen 1/4 of the map already and ive only just begun.

Do enemies respawn? Just curious how we can level up past 50. Do interiors respawn?

just loot everything and enable unlimited carry weight via console. It makes the game so much more fun! You are the storage, so ot's always mobile!

Question: When I build a weapon mod it is in my inventory. What happens when I store those mods somewhere. Why do I even have to mods in my inventore, I don't get it.

How do I establish trade between my settlements? It's kinda annoying that I can't access my goodies from all of them. I tried assigning a settler to the workshop but that didn't work.

They should have three commands when you select a settler, Command (what you tried), Move (move to a different settlement) and supply line (what you're after).

If it doesn't let you pick Supply Line, it means the NPC can't do it or you don't have Local Leader. I think only unnamed Settler types can do it.

really liked this shot i took so thought id post it here too

You can transfer them to the weapon bench and they'll be available when you are upgrading weapons. The prompt becomes "install" instead of "build" if you have one already stashed away.

How can I scrap all the junk items?

Go to a construction bench and hit "transfer". There's a prompt to "store all junk". Junk gets broken down as-needed from storage.

Ah Ok, that's my problem. I don't have any unnamed settlers yet. I'll have to pick some up.

You can transfer all junk items to the workbench with one button, then spam the scrap button? There might be a button for scrapping all too.

You can't manually scrap junk, just transfer to workbench and it's scrapped as it's needed.

You can only manually scrap weapons and armour.

Bethesda should really have explained this simple mechanic, as it's a constant source of confusion.

So yeah like another poster earlier I got out of my power armor in
Corvega Plant
and all of a sudden he scooped right into it and stole it. I killed him but now all I have is pieces of the armor no way to get into it or craft another without finding a whole new suit. That blows. I thought I would be able to just rebuild it since I had all the pieces

Need help already. Im killing all the bugs for cogsworth and nothings happening. I went to every house. Quest still says kill bugs

What am i missing

There isn't, but you also shouldn't need to manually scrap any junk items, as the game is supposed to automatically scrap them when needed for making other things.

If you want a new frame
There's one not far from the power plant. Southish in a lake, there's a downed helicopter with it's tail sticking out of the water with a frame and chest piece near it. It's where I got my 2nd frame.

Storing materials in a bench, does that make them available in any bench then?

edit:L I see the question about breaking them down, sorry if that's the same concept

Oh that does make it easier.

Thanks. Sorry for yet another question but where are radiation barrels? I see normal barrels around but there's no fungus

If you face the bridge of Sanctuary while in Sanctuary go right and follow the water until you get to a truck that full of toxic waste and mushrooms.

If anyone is at work/school/away from their home, and wants to watch an entertaining Swedish guy build a settlement, then this should tide you over for 17 minutes. No spoilers, just randomness and an insight into just how deep the settlement stuff can be.

Also

get the Scrapper perk IMMEDIATELY

I went from being starved of material to being able to maxe out my guns

Honestly the only perks I am finding worth dumping points into is the gathering/crafting/hacking/lockpicking ones

Crafted guns/armor cover any other deficiencies your character may have

This, coupled with the massive reduction in player determination (Mass Effect dialog, no skill points, being able to add to SPECIAL, ~90% predefined character, etc) makes this game not an RPG. Not to me at least. Its more like Far Cry 3/4 with branching dialog. Its a shooter with a skill tree, not an RPG shooter.

Eh, I don't see the complaints about having no skill points considering many people also asked for the changes. The game still has plenty of stat checks. Bethesda made a balanced compromise, many people complained that in the other games that being also a shooter, having too many stat checks/having certain stats determine accuracy too much deterred from the gun play itself, missing a shot even very close up when playing it more like a shooter didn't feel right. There wasn't really a balance between the two forms of play. Now, they have a compromise on balancing between those who want it more of a shooter than those that also want it with more stats/skills. There is a balance since this was one of the many complaints of previous games any ways, Bethesda listened to this feedback. It being first person in any case means it needs this balance, if you want heavy stat checks its better to do a game like Fallout and Fallout 2, but it being first person as it is, it needs balance between the two. In my opinion I think it's a good balanced change since I also played them in a style straddling both forms of gameplay when I felt like it, many people do.

About 3 hours in, game is incredible. Running PC at high settings, looks beautiful with no real noticeable slow down. Already know I'm gonna have so much to do in this world, VATS feels really good I like it slow mo.

Anyone who listened to the gloom and doom posts about the game and chose not to buy it because of that are making a huge mistake. If you enjoyed Fallout 3 or NV, there is absolutely no reason to not pick up this game.

Good man thank you. Is there any point to having the other pieces still?

You store them in the workshop and the game will automatically break them down when you need the parts inside them when crafting items.

I've heard that if you scrap an item for one part of the three components that make it up, the other two will go to waste.

I'm stuck at the "First Step" quest. I've killed a lot of raiders inside the power plant but now I don't where the last one is... I'm searching inside the building but I really can't find anyone :/
Glitch ? Or hidden door somewhere ?

Do only certain guns have crits? I've been using a modified pipe rifle and I can'r use a crit. The meter is full but the prompt is never highlighted. I don't think I've used a single one all game

Hi everyone,

Was enjoying the game last night up until a point where the game glitched at the sanctuary side mission where you have to crop the foods. I picked up an array of carrot flowers & mutroots to plant for the 5 person requirement but the options were greyed out in menu when I went to plant them in the small piece of land behind the house where the work benches are situated.

Does anyone know if this is a glitch? I don't fancy starting the game again from pretty much the start as I've put about 2 hours into it already where my last main save is with a lot of recent quick saves.

It's not a prompt. On PC at least it's load up a shut, hit E to start the shot, press Space before it fires, it'll crit. Never had it not work with a gun.

PC reviews on Amazon are pretty crazy. It's at a 2-star.
Most of the "reviews" are also just complaining about the fact that the full game isn't on the disc (which I agree, is silly).

Well, if there's one thing I can say about Fallout 4 it's that Bethesda has certainly released one mess of a game - and seemingly, from many possible angles one might consider. Unsure how I feel about the game right now. My immediate reaction (or reaction after about 10 hours of play) is still something along the lines of a wayward shrug.
