Any chance you could give some pointers on what stats / perks are good for the stealth sniper build? I've been playing with a similar build but have been really struggling at times.
Exactly what I'm playing.

Core perks should be Rifleman, Lockpicking, Gun Smith, Armorer, Ninja, Critical Banker and Better Criticals. That allows you to one shot one or two people from stealth and kill any tougher enemies with critical headshots (if you use the critical it's a GUARANTEED hit, even if you only have a 1% hit chance in VATS), or when in a pinch. Saved me countless times. Lone Wanderer is really great as well, if you don't mind being alone / with the dog (in that case attack dog is good). I think it breaks immersion so I venture alone. I would keep a shot gun as secondary weapon, since sniper rifles are far too slow to deal with multiple enemies up close. Lasty, "Sneak" is certainly something to look into, I'm not sure if it makes a difference tho. I play on Survival and enemies know I'm in the building 2 stories below me when I move one step, lol. they are just "alerted" tho, I still get the sneak hit when I hit them.

Defensively, apart from Lone Wanderer I actually have not a single thing invested into it. If I would, Life Giver would be the top priority followed by Toughness.

As for the success, it's a bit rough in the beginning, but soon you will one-shot everything - even legendaries. I think apart from Deathclaws, nothing has survived a critical headshot. Combine that with the extra sneak damage, and I think even those would be a one shot. Shotgun with "long barrel" is also VERY nice to use in buildings and the like.

edit: Some extra tips.
-Press regularly VATS while exploring. You get to see enemies you don't really notice otherwise. If it finds someone, leave it and snipe away manually.
-Use a Medium Scope rather then a "Long Scope". Feels way more natural.
-Enhance both of your arm armors with "stabilize" - makes a difference like day and night.
-Buy/loot modified weapons just to dispatch their modifiers, you can find stuff you wouldn't normally able to produce (yet) this way.

So I just found two identical NPCs named "Art" in a battle to the death in the middle of Boston.

I'm not sure if this is an amazing glitch or some kind of sidequest I missed.

How the hell are you seeing other character's level? Is that a perk?

Noooo, I think the quest The
Lost Patrol
got bugged out for me. I was supposed to go back and talk to Paladin
Danse
, but another quest was triggered and he became
my companion
during that quest and won't react to the original quest anymore, even though the quest marker always leads to him :(

Was a cool quest though, hopefully I only missed out on some exp.

Loving the game! Now I have a minor complaint, which for all I know could be a bug. I wanted to switch the jumping button from triangle to X on Remote Play like I did on my Dualshock. When I go to the menu to swap controls, it is empty and I can't assign any buttons to anything.

I feel like im overwhelmed with everything in this game, Im level 8 and feels like I still have no bloody idea what im doing.

What's the point of settlements are the worth the investment? Do they give moneysupplies as time goes by?

What Perks are best to level up first.

Basically im looking for advice for whats like the main things to do when your a couple of hours in, things are constantly kicking my ass and im just running around like a headless chicken.
I'd say level up your endurance/strength so you can have health and not get killed quickly. As far as weapons go, I'd pick either the rifle or pistol perk to help you out with damage. I'm pretty sure shotguns are covered with the rifle perk and they're pretty strong as is.

Settlements will allow you to gain stuff later on but I'm not sure how much yet. They can get pretty time consuming. I'd recommend looking around the area where you started the game and slowly cover the area. Going straight south will get pretty rough for a beginner.

Where are those sniper rifles tho. Been running around for a while hasn't found a single one. Even a shitty one, lol.

Also long barrel shotgun is indeed awesome. I am really surprised by the HUGE jump at range for it, it doesn't feel like how a shotgun should work, hahaha.

Put it into your workshop / crafting station. It'll be junked automatically if you need the resources.
Can't remember if this was answered, but when stuff in the Workstation is junked, does it also then drop the secondary and tertiary items into the material pile as well, or only the primary item?

I finally decide to progress in the story.

Man the Brotherhood of Steel know how to make an entrance

Slight spoilerly thing at the bottom

I keep seeing Vertebirds flying around now. I've actually seen two get shot down by supermutants. One of them I was doing the lost recon team quest, and one of the supermutants had a lock on missile launcher and it fucked that vertebirds shit up.

I've started finding a decent amount of Hunting Rifles on dead bodies after I hit level 12 or so and was exploring the areas along the western wall of the map, south of Sanctuary. I've named my current Sniper rifle "Say Goodbye to your Face."

So, I was casually hunting those mutant deers thingy with my handy sniper rifle. And when I used the scope, the game immediately sent my character flying dozens of feet in the air. Of course, she died.
Just another Bethesda glitch, it seems.

Bout 27 hours in. Is there any other actual useful armour besides leather, metal and combat ? Thats all im finding and they look ugly as hell

Plus some brotherhood iniate armour but apart from that the game seems to only want to give me those armour sets and its annoying seeing as how 3 and new vegas had loads.

Nothing goes to waste. :)

Pipe Rifle -> Sniper Rifle -> Combat Sniper Rifle

I'm not sure if it's just a "Hunting Rifle" and just modded to a sniper rifle.
I dunno if there are more in the game. I'm still using the tier 2 weapon, even tho I can buy the tier 3 weapons because mine has a broken legendary modifier.

It doesn't even shoot or hit twice or consume 2 ammo, it's really just "double damage" for some reason.
Combine that with x3 sneak damage + headshot damage (+ x3 crit damage). :3

I wonder if Obsidian could work around this watered-down conversation system if they were given the chance to do an expansion. All I can think when I answer things as "sarcastic" or "yes" is how much you lose by doing this. What am I saying though, Obsidian getting NV was like once in a lifetime stuff, wasn't it?

I can confirm this.
Sniper rifle comes from a modded hunting rifle. I made one myself from a hunting rifle yesterday. After attaching several mods on it, the game recognizes it as a sniper rifle.

How is this running on PCs that fall a bit short of the minimum CPU requirements? I'm running a Phenom II 840 and am trying to decide if i'd be better off buying the game on consoles. I comfortably surpass the minimum reqs in every other respect.

So, rented this from Game Fly and I'm wondering, how long does the install generally take?

I'm certain Obsidian could work around it fairly well, they have better writers for one :p
As far as them getting another shot at making a Fallout title, you never know, iirc they're open to doing it again.

The first sniper rifles that might be available to you won't even necessarily be sniper rifles. If you have a rank of Gun Nut you can mod a pipe pistol with a full stock and a ranged scope to be a pretty good semi-auto sniper rifle. The sniper rifle I use is a hunting rifle, which you'll start to see after a few hours.

I'm on a 5 year old i2.5k @3.3 (4.2 OC) ghz. Runs smooth like hell.

I've spent fifteen minutes looking for Dogmeat at Sanctuary to no avail.

Eff this.

Did you look in the dog houses scattered in sanctuary ?

Also reposting my question

I can't for the life of me figure out how to throw d dog on the trash, I don't want a companion, I want to wonder the wasteland alone.

I have a dumb bug >_<

Every time I tell Dogmeat to "Follow me" (as in, take him as a companion) the dialogue gets stuck and the camera is just showing his face. So eventually itll end but I dont have a crosshair, cant interact with anything, cant take out my gun/pip-boy etc.

So I found saving and reloading fixes that issue - but that makes me unable to interact with dogmeat. His name doesnt even show up if I look at him..

Welp. Guess thats that - probably cant use him ever again.

So I tried to set up a little bar in one of my settlements but it's... impossible? I dropped some bottle of hooch from my inventory but they all fell to the ground and tipped over. Is there a way to like reset object orientation when carrying it? Otherwise I'm lifting them off the floor, then trying to crush them into a wall such that they up facing up, which will take way too long.

Any tips for placing little objects the way you want?

Xbox One btw.

Anyone got those #hot #tips I crave?

Funny thing happened just now. I was running through an area and noticed a caravan in a shoot out with super mutants and one of them was a legendary. After we killed them all one of the jackass caravan guards looted the legendary mutant lol. I was sorta pissed for a minute.

Question re: Brotherhood of Steel intro:

After clearing the mission alongside Danse he gave he his rifle but he also said I'd get my own power armor. Where is it? Or is it later? I mean I have my own from the intro anyway but I imagine the Brotherhood's is better.

Oh, I'm more concerned with how they would deal with this weird new slot machine style conversation wheel, pull one and see what may come out, instead of the clear writing of the choices from NV and 3. It's a bummer.

McGRIZZLE'S FISTS-ONLY ADVENTURES IN THE WASTELAND -- LOG 4
Previous Logs: 1 | 2 | 3

So I'm ramblin' through some city streets and I hear some arguin' goin' on. Two guys sayin' they're the real McCoy, and one of 'em has a gun aimed at t'other. Both arguing that the other's a 'synth' or somethin, ain't never heard of that but I don't really care anyhow. I just want 'em to get the wailin' over with.

Now I can't say I care much for guys on their knees cryin' and prayin' for help, not when they got two perfectly good fists on 'em. I tell the one with the gun to put the guy out of his misery already before I do it for him. He does, and frankly seeing a man die like that... it got to me. Ain't nobody deserves to die from a cowardly bullet, not even cowards themselves.

I decide to make it right by laying my knuckles up against the seams of this guy's coat. BAM! He turns and tries to use that gun on me! Idiot doesn't know not to bring a gun to a fistfight. Not with ol' McGrizzle. I leave him in a heap next to his double. Seems to me that synths and not-synths look pretty much the same when they're dead.

Nows I'm walkin' down some other streets and I hear a woman calling for help. I figure I can help her, even if my kinda help ain't the kind she's looking for. She tells me something's going on inside Hardware Town and heads in. Smells like bait to me, and I don't need Tom Hardy pointin' it out to me.

I decide to scope out the place. There's a couple guys out back with guns, and I relieve them off the heavy load of being such cowardly people right quick with a few good punches. I head into the back and notice a path underground. What I see there rocks me to my very core.

That right there is a heap of bodies, stripped down and discarded. That's MY modus operandi, if ya catch my meaning... but I KNOW I ain't been here before. Could I have found soulmates in this wasted ruin of the city? People that truly understand McGrizzle?!

I rush out to meet my new friends, my heart near to burstin' with love for these kindred spirits. And, it breaks my heart to tell ya this dear reader, but I'd been fooled. These fellas weren't looking for friends, they was just lookin' to shoot good, honest, hard-punchin' folks like yours truly.

This turn of events sent a rage through me like ya ain't never seen. Ya can't go messin' with a man's heart and not expect the ensuin' storm to come wreck ya. And wreck 'em I did. I found power in my fists I didn't even know I had!

First thing I did was give a guy on the ground floor a good wallopin'. I can say this much about these people: they ain't much in the way of fortitude. The bastard blew up like I was punchin' a blood balloon!

My fists were hungry for more, and thankfully I found another playmate. This one had already turned his gun on me so I knew I had to rush 'em. I sprinted at him and gave him the old one-two, and followed with an uppercut so vicious that he flew up to the goddamn ceiling. He might've been headed into orbit, I punched the fucker so hard.

There was one more, up a ramp and raining down hellfire on me. This guy was really gettin' on my nerves. Didn't have the decency to even be on the ground with me, PLUS he was using a gun! I took a quick breather behind a rack and downed some iguana on a stick. Damn good eatin'. Then I ran up the ramp with the full intent of sending that man to meet his maker.

I tell ya what -- I think God was a'waitin fer him, and decided to intervene on my behalf.

I gave him a quick punch and then another, and decided that I wanted to really put the hurt on him. As I did, God came in and let me fly there -- I kid you not -- and punch this feller three times like I was standing on a cloud.

If I had any doubts before then about the righteousness of my cause (I didn't), there could be none after. I was gonna punch the shit out of every goddamn heathen left in this forsaken wasteland and let it be ruled by the power of the fist, like the good Lord intended.

Til next time, may your fists always strike true.

- McGrizzle

Can't wait to start finding legendary gear. Only got one pipe pistol from seemingly accidentally killing a legendary radroach, and seen a legendary sword in a vendors inventory. Hope I'm not too badly deprived of the stuff because I'm playing on normal

Is there anything to prevent you from playing on survival, and bumping it all the way down when you have an encounter with a legendary enemy?
