does the pickpocket perk affect success in pickpocketing? I thought each level just increased what you can do with pickpocketing [aka steal equipped armor/weapons, put live grenade, etc[/spoiler]

Level 1: "Your quick hands and sticky fingers make picking pockets 25% easier."

Level 2: "Picking pockets is now 50% easier. You can place a live grenade in a person's inventory."

Level 3: "Picking pockets is now 75% easier, and you can steal equipped weapons."

Level 4: "Picking pockets is now twice as easy, and you can steal equipped items."

Do you need to be actively traveling with a companion to utilize their specific perk? Or once you maximize affinity and get the perk it always appllies regardless if they are traveling with you or not. Cus I like Prestons perk, but Id rather have -spoiler- actually traveling with me.

well I'll be damned, should've actually read the perk earlier thanks.

Guess that sneaking ability doesn't affect it. But that means I have to put so many points, and I only use it to try and steal fusion cores off people in power armors.

I haven't considered pickpocketing being super useful until now. That's a pretty good idea.

So do all protections randomly explode in a fiery nuclear explosion upon death? I fought one in a tiny enclosed room and its parting gift was atomic. I laughed from the unexpected results.

What's peoples favourite settlements to build up? Jamaica plains is the only really urban one I've discovered, it's nice except for the crappy build limit and size. The slog has a nice design but it feels like the weather is always rubbish there. I like the Ricky greenhouse but I just found it and it doesn't look too defensible.

Also that toy guy at the slog, I failed his quest after defending the slog from raider attack... Can he die? I thought settlers could only be KO'd

I've already done it like 2-3 times, but today I met a guy who I could not pickpocket his fusion core for the life of me. I reloaded like 20 times and eventually gave up and did a sneak ninja critical attack on him and 1-shot him haha.

Won't let me steal your fusion core? THEN DIE

After 2-3 conversations, or a personal quest for a companion (it differs for all of them that I've found) the game will say they idolize you and then you will get one final conversation with them and the perk just pops up. There's no way of knowing how close you are, but it does not take very long. I've gotten the perk off like 4 companions so far. Just have someone with you and they will strike up conversations occasionally. It's probably tied to how often the like or dislike something you're doing, but I can't be sure on that as I completely finished MacCready's companion quest and barely ever got any messages that he liked what I was doing.

I've run with Paladin Dan for ages. What's his quest called?

There's a lighthouse settlement as well as a ruined mansion settlement on the east coast. The mansion is my favorite because the area reminds me of Point Lookout.

Nothing! I said nothing!
Please someone tell me. Are the 'missions' from the 2 BOS guys in Cambridge police station never ending. Same with the ones where I always need to go back to Preston?

Yeah. Afaik they're like the Minutemen's "Kidnapping at _____" quests: randomly generated and infinite.

Only legendary ones.

Btw. I don't have any of the robotics expert perks so I love the holotape that let's you hijack protectrons and use them as VIP escort.

Only legendary ones.

I don't think that's true since I just let loose a Police Protectron to help me kill some raiders and he went nuclear. I think it functions like a buff: if it has the chance to cast Self Destruct and gets it off (making it glowing orange) it'll explode upon death or the timer runs out.

Should be true of any robots since I saw a Mr. Gutsy do the same when I shot off its limbs.

Here's a question for experts/fans of doing things in a very unconventional way... I need help deciding where I go from here:

I accepted the BoS invitation to join them on their S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier and became a knight and all that jazz. I sort of decided I didn't like this band of technologically jacked-up douche bags, and proceeded to fight my way from the inside out; I slaughtered every single BoS member on that ship. I just went on an anti-d-bag rampage and somehow managed to survive their onslaught. Nick Valentine didn't seem to take issue with it, so the two of us made out like a bandit and headed back to the Red Rocket filling station.

My question is, if I continue on from here on out, having made an enemy of the
BoS and "failed" their quest line, are their helicopter things going to constantly rain down fire on me every so often? Am I always going to have issues with them randomly attacking me?

No I think he's right. I fought a legendary watcher protectron and even killing it instantly it exploded spectacularly a few seconds later, with not a drop of loot remaining. It could be difficulty related also.
Nothing jet couldn't fix, just loot and sprint!

I take it to unlock the BoS quest F
rom Within I need to advance the main story more? Maxson mentions I should go speak with Doctor Amari which I have to with Valentine any ways which is my current lead so I guess this is the way the game is telling me to pursue that even then return to him when I get a lead from Amari with Valentine I presume.

When it glows orange it is legendary, same for other npcs.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the strange iridescent green/yellow glow you get from Bloatflies shooting you? It's stuck and won't go away for some reason. Will grab screens later if anyone needs them.

Noone answered the question I had yesterday evening.

How would one get the companion perks, and companion quests the fastest? Because I am playing as a Lone wanderer, so I just want to do it as quickly as possible so I can dump them again. Also, are the companion perks missable if you complete enough quests without them? Thanks!

Probably wiki search the companions skip the part revealing their backstory and see what makes them "Like" or "Love" certain actions and do them the most.

The answer to your question is yes, and you have nobody to blame but yourself. :D

Argh, this settlement building UI is killing my intrest of building anything. The UI on pc is such a mess. Sometimes stuff snaps to place nicely, sometimes I can't get them to snap even if my life depended on it, for no apparent reason. And why does every wall and roof look like shit? I know it's the wasteland and such, but should that stop me from building a nice looking wall without holes.

I think I've just had a moment of clarity. I'm not enjoying F4 to its fullest right now because I'm RPing. I should have just gone for a "Do anything, master of all trades" guy but I'm actually not taking perks (I had 3 unused ones last night, didn't notice or care) because I'm saving perks for future runs. I might just push for the end game then start a new guy that falls more in line with what I did in F3: learns everything, does everything. No more not joining the BoS because they're iffy, no more wanting to please companions... No more companions actually. The Lone Wandered is returning, and he's not going to have non-stealthy idiots getting in his way when he's shooting and blowing his cover when he's sneaking.

Came across a tower with a lever at the top which sets off an alarm when you pull it and the noise attracted two deathclaws, one of which was an an alpha deathclaw, and every time I shot them they would run away and only return once I became hidden. So I was stranded up there with not enough ammo and nowhere near good enough armor to take them on. Ended up shooting them both so they ran off, and then I booked it down the stairs and in the opposite direction. I kept looking over my shoulder to see if they were hunting me down. I was so scared. Lol.

2 more questions

1). If hidden, with doors closed in vault 82, why does the entire vault aggro on me? Is it s cumulative thing?

2)why is it when I try to place walls on my 2nd story there is a gap between wall and floor?

1st level I use floor, 2nd level I use the ceiling/floor combo. Sort of frustrating

I fought some Watcher Protectrons that didn't explode when they died. I'm not sure if Legendary actually adds any new abilities to enemies besides the mutation thing.

Maybe yours has already set off its self-destruct sequence?

When it glows orange it is legendary, same for other npcs.

Talking about two different glows. There's the legendary enemy glow/aura that happens when they mutate. Robots have a different unique glow when they activate their overheat into explosion.

Well, I must have killed it about fifteen times, all with the same result: me being exploded while trying to grab the loot heh.. I've seen robots do the glowing self-destruct and I never saw any of that on this legendary.

I only just discovered the basement behind one of the houses in Sanctuary.

There's fucking gold bars in there.

How did I miss that.

Ah so that's why my grenades weren't going off when I was planting them on people, good to know.

So Robin Atkin Downes is voice acting Finn (the first guy you seen in Goodneighbor) and Clancy Brown is Winlock (in The Third Rail), right? Those guys have such recognizable voices that I was pretty much 100% sure the second I heard them, but they're not listed on IMDB.

I heard there's companion quests, but I don't seem to have got one for Piper even though shes now in love with me. Does she not have one?

Not every companion has a quest. If he is stopping you to have awkward, heart to heart conversations you're making progress.

Piper doesn't have one.

I'd say probably most companions don't have one. Of all the companions I've unlocked perks for, only MacCready required a quest.

Guys it's not hard, just hang out with a companion long enough, don't piss them off and perk unlocks. Once perk is unlocked send them to one of your abandoned bases and never think of them again, you're done with them.
