I tried for an hour and a half to get a veteran ranger to spawn so I can steal his awesome looming ranger combat armor that the cover art wears with no luck. Sigh. I'm lvl 23 already and past the Top casino part of the story yet nothing.

If one of you knows when I can actually get this armor reliably, please PM me so I don't miss it in this quick moving thread.

there was some shop that sold combat armor. maybe gun runners? I can't remember but I didn't get it because I'm trucking around 5 pieces of power armour will waiting to get the skill to wear them

Any recommendations for ways to boost rep with Legion? The only possibility I've seen thus far is
telling them how to disarm mines. Who the fuck has explosives at 50...? :lol

Also, the karma system in this game is fucked. I rescued some slaves. Immediately shot them after they were free. Didn't lose a thing. Steal a rapists pencil? Karma down! :lol

If you have medium survival, you can talk to their healer.

At this point I'm totally set up to choose any side and finish the game. I've got like 20 quests waiting to be finished. :lol

I don't. My main skills are lock picking, science, speech, and guns. It doesn't seem like it's even possible to side with / do quests for Legion. I've found about 30 NCR quests, and 0 for Legion. I'm hoping the only way to side with them isn't some sort of pseudo-bad ending / last hour of the game choice, and that's it.

Hrm, a couple of Caesar's people will give you quests.

Speaking of playing the Legion, it's a bit interesting playing a female character there. Although it might have been cool if the entire path was locked out simply based on their prejudices.

is there no way to get ED-E to go way for you in your casino room? seems like the only option is sending him back to primm

Also, anyone else having the problem where even after the quest finishes you're stuck with an unremoveabe van graff armor? Can't get rid of it and it eats up 25wt :/

I did That Lucky Old Sun but I didn't get the achievement for it. I'm wondering if it's because I
overloaded the plant.
Did I remove a bunch of future options by taking this path? The ending of it seemed rather anti climactic.

No, it shouldn't matter which route you take. You're not playing in Offline Mode or something (Steam)?

So in Goodsprings there is this guy in a
trailer who says his sister (cant remember) is somewhere near a broken radio station up a ridge. I can't identify this ridge or station.

If you tell them to wait in your room, they'll be there waiting for you. I'm almost going to do that because it sucks having them die in hardcore mode if you forgot to save.

If you stand in front of the entrance to that trailer and turn around, you should see a small tower broken in half. It's up that small ridge, right by there.

I think it's about 5 hours depending on how many side things you do. Your apartment thingy is at
The Strip when you talk to Mr. House @ Lucky38.

Don't items stay relatively safe if you put them anywhere? I remember dumping all these random crap onto the floor at a certain place, and they remained there for quite a while.

With games like this I can't help but have a peek at the ending. I quicksaved when I got to the Lucky 38 and
hacked the terminals up to Mr House and killed him, went to Bennys casino and accidently ended up in his room and found Yes Man and killed Benny, took the chip and put Yes Man in control of the upgraded robots.

I stopped there though (because of some glitch that made me only able to walk after a cutscene) and haven't figured out how I'm going to play it in my actual game.

anyone have any tips for Caravan

It's not really like solitaire. The object of the game is to get the closest to 26 in each pile without going over. Treat each stack as their own entity. Numeric cards are used for their numeric value only. Other cards aren't. Jacks are used to remove cards. Usually 3 at a time unless you have less than that. Queens are used to change the suit to the suit of the Queen you use. Kings double the value of the card you place it next to. Example would be that if your current total for a pile is 16 using a ten and a six. Put a King next to the ten and your total becomes 26. Aces are valued as ones. What the current suit is doesn't matter for these cards. Oh yeah, Jokers mix the entire board up. Will change cards around with you and your opponent.

I usually don't lose anymore when I play now that I understand. I built my own deck. Took out the Jacks and Jokers because I don't use them and replaced them with Kings and Queens that I buy. Hope that helps.

How does a hand actually "end" though? I never really understood how that worked... I just got the achievement and went on.

I'm pretty sure it ends once your opponent can't play a card. I'm not quite sure though. There are times where I'll get each pile to 26 and just discard cards until the game ends.

Is it normal to be running into Giant Rad scorpions all over the place? Im only level 7 and they kill me in one hit at the moment.

Found the wasteland survival guide last night, nice little memento

I wonder if I broke my game, Im pretty far in like 40 hours with most things done and I only have a few major quests still around and everything is being held up by the Brotherhood of Steel which Im pretty sure I borked.

So I finished up the main questline for the BoS, Still in the Dark, a while ago and did everything McNamara wanted me to do and then after that was all finished and the quest was completed I then told the Head Paladin Hardin how to oust McNamara, and thats where I think I f'd things cause since that time, which was a good 10 hours ago, nothing has changed down there and both McNamara and Hardin only have auto responses about getting ready for the defense and to wait and no other BoS person has anything to say.

Ive also had Veronica in my group for a while now and her quest hasnt come up at all. So this is all really annoying because the two remaining plot quests I have left both deal with the Brotherhood of Steal. All I have left to do is tell Yes Man to leave the BoS alone to finish the Wild Card: Side Bets quest and then the NCR quest For the Republic 2 I have to find and "deal" with the BoS but right now the only option I have available is to blow them up and that cuts out Veronica's quest and two others. Neither solution for either the NCR or Yes Man quests seems like the better options but I dont know how else to move things along.

I really hope theres some way to fix this or just something I missed cause so far the games run rather flawlessly with only 5 crashes in 50 hours and one definite bug with the NCR Fort McCarran quest I put a Spell on You and the tram always blowing up.

I really do not enjoy
Vault 34
, like to the point I got a couple floors in and reloaded so I could do something else instead of pressing on. It's just bland compared to the other locations in the game; sucks that going back there is going to be my only option if I want to complete
Veronica's personal quest; I did Helios One before I even met her, and she finally offered up the quest about fifteen minutes after I made the Vault 22 option impossible.

It just makes me miss the ghoul mask from Fallout 3.

Bought the game yesterday and am up to the point in the story where you first meet
Caesar's Legion
and then promptly
smoked all them dudes
. The problem is now that I have
Legion Assassins
after me. They're not too bad because I wear their clothes and they won't attack me. Is there any easy way to stop them chasing me or do I have to live with it?

I'm also really digging Hardcore mode. It focuses more on survival than being a camera with a gun attached to it. It brings out the minecraft player in me.

Hated that vault. Didn't have my Ghoul cannibal perk yet either. Haven't found any of the others. Although the armory in the vault is pretty great.

Anybody do Boone's side quest yet? I know it exists, because when he dies, it tells me I failed "I forgot to remember to forget," yet, I'm 34 hours in and can't find anything that starts this hidden quest.

I have been. The little fucker doesn't say shit. I'm holding out hope for an "enhanced interrogation" perk. Crafting recipe: 2 bottles dirty water, 1 iron, 1 radscorpion gland and 1 sledgehammer.

Best way to kill Deathclaws?

These weren't much of a problem in FO3, but now they hunt in packs. I know a Flamer worked in FO3. However, it's ineffective against a pack.

Come back when you're stronger. Conversely, hope to find a place where they can't jump up and bitch slap you and take pot shots at them.

It's so weird playing a new Fallout game which really does feel like a sequel to Fallout 2. As far as any long time Fallout is concerned, New Vegas -is- Fallout 3. Not only is the writing and narrative style faithful, but there are so many direct connections in terms of characters, factions and location/setting. :D

Wow. Sounds like you guys are having fun. Fallout 3 was my first entry to the series and the best RPG I've ever played. Story and presentation wise, it could use a bit of work, but overall amazing experience.

Is New Vegas so buggy that I should avoid it for the time being?

So I read that hardcore mode in itself is not that difficult.

What about the difficulty you guys play on. How is super hard compared to any of the others?

I really love to play it a challenging way, the only thing it must not do is irritate me.

No. Patches and whatnot are coming out at a rapid fire pace, and the big actual one (the saves vanishing) has been fixed. Go buy it now.

Anybody who tells you hardcore mode isn't difficult, well, they are lying to your face. They're lying liars who lie.

Play hardcore on hard and see if I'm not right.

I'm playing on hardcore, and I don't find it "hard" at all. It's a hell lot more fun though. The additional layer of immersion and roleplaying adds a lot to the experience, and it also makes many, many items in the game way more useful.

Hardcore mode is just an extra layer of management. It's not "difficult" if you enjoy doing that extra stuff.

Sure. Except for stimpacks not insta-healing. Or beds doing the same. Or being able to use easily obtained stimpacks to regenerate crippled limbs. Or companions who die instead of "being knocked out."

Sorry, but this makes the game more difficult, especially on hard. He wants a challenge...he'll get it thusly.

I'm not saying it doesn't make the game more difficult at all. It definitely adds more challenge (which is why it's so fun), but I just don't think it's something that can be considered actually punishing. It's not the punishing sort of difficulty, it's the fun sort! :D

Anyone know if there is a UI mod that lets me close the pip boy with the ESC key? Annoys the hell out of me. Almost every other PC game uses the ESC key to close menus.

I'm playing on Hardcore/Hard difficulty and the combat was indeed somewhat challenging (certainly far more than Fallout 3).

Until I picked up Boone.

Now it's easy sauce. I'm strongly considering turning it up to Very Hard even though I wanted to save that for a later playthrough.

Also, remember that Hardcore mode scales with the difficulties. So if you're using Hardcore you really shouldn't be playing on Medium. Doesn't make much sense.
