I didn't because I had no idea what he was babbling about until after the fact. When I went back to react vengeance for his cowardice, he had wisely vanished into the desert. I hope a pack of ghouls are feasting on his entrails.

I did too! I read the sign about the million dollar lottery, saw that he was a PGer, and sniped him as he ran across that dry lake. I felt bad about it after I actually went into Nipton.

Me too. Thought I want that lottery ticket to get some money in Vegas or something.
Boy, was I disappointed when I found out what the lottery ticket was for.

Anyone know if the PC version still has the Gamebryo/iFPS Clamp engine stuttering issue?

I'm assuming it does, but just thought I'd ask...
It does and it's horrible. Make sure you have à pc that can run the game at a constant 60 fps. I don't so i can hardly stand playing but it's Steam so i can't sell it :(

finalozzo said:
ok ok, maybe i'll buy it. 360 or PS3? (not pc because my is no good :-|)
I'd say 360, because it runs better and it will get the DLC first.

i-Lo said:
Any word on when the memory leak issue on the 360 will be fixed? Btw, does the PS3 version also suffer from the same "the longer I play the worse the loading period gets" issue?
That's something that happens in all of Bethesda's games on 360/PS3. Don't expect it to be fixed.

The game will run worse on both consoles the more you play.

Well, if you run around me screaming about winning a lottery, you better be able to run fast as hell.

I haven't had any issues and have been running at a constant 60FPS with the .dll fix. It's worked for everyone. The ifpsclamp ruins it, though, because it literally slows down the game to match the framerate.

If the .dll fix isn't working then your settings are too high for your hardware. Honestly, with every single person having a positive outcome from the .dll fix, I can't imagine what issue you're having. Turn off AA. You've already done the water fix. There's not much more.

This is exactly what i'm saying. You don't have horrible stuttering because you can run the game at à constant 60 fps. If you can't, like me, you're screwed. It's à built-in limitation of the engine. In fo3 there was an fps limiter mod to fix it for people without high-end computers, but there isn't one for nv.

avcables said:

ifpsclamp doesn't ruin anything, it merely makes the fps you set it to = 100% game speed. if fps goes lower/higher, the game speed becomes slower/faster. so if you set ifpsclamp=60 and keep a constant 60 fps, the game runs 100% perfectly.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Oblivion did get worse the more you played, but Fallout 3 never did for me, at least the 360 version. And I played that game a ton. If it did then I really never noticed. In New Vegas the decrease in performance in incredibly noticeable and pretty damn annoying. Hopefully they fix it, because Fallout 3 did run pretty good on the 360, all things considered.

Fallout 3 definitely ran worse for me after 125 hours of play. I got lots of stuttering towards the end of my playthrough. So far, after ~19 hours, New Vegas is running the same it did when I first booted it up. I'm definitely expecting it to get worse over time.

I wonder if Bethesda is going to give refunds to all those who can't even get the game to run? I've never encountered something like this before, and apparently I'm not alone. If I can't play the game I want my $54 back!

Oh man, if you only knew how back and forth I've been between the console versions and PC version of Fallout 3 because of this.
Basically yeah, with iFPS clamp set the 0, the game is a fucking horrible stuttering mess that I CANNOT unsee. On the flipside, you set it to 60 and for the most part, it runs a solid 60 at 720p/4 AA/"High" settings. It's when you hit indoors with all the shite particle effects/smoke (think the supermarket), that everything turns into NES S L O W mode. I'm learning to cope, but yeah, was wondering if New Vegas' performance is more or less the same. If it is, I'll buy it on PC instead of console.

for the record, my rig:

Radeon 5850
Q9400
4gigs ram

btw, what's this .dll fix?

I'm not getting any consistency with NV thus far. After experiencing all of the main bugs at launch, I've been able to address each one piecemeal to the point where I'm no longer experiencing crashes. However, the performance of the game, FPS/Pop-in/etc, is all over the place. I fired it up once yesterday, and experienced awful performance around Nipton and Novac. Played it again later on and had no problems.

I thought the
perk that Boone gives you, which makes enemies show up in pink highlight
was a new error with the game. lulz!

Lost
veronica
. Still got her perk going somehow. Any chance she'll just magically reappear? She did once before, but this time she's been off for a good long while... Insert comments about how it'd have been nice of them to release a finished product about right here.

With that rig you shouldn't need to bother with FPS clamp at all. Use this:

mine's about the same. Q9550 though and it runs mostly fine. I haven't had to do any .dll fixes here too. I honestly don't know what you guys having game issues are doing. Aside from the occassional crashes, I've yet to have severe framerate/performance issues.

Ran into an annoying bug last night. When you go into the Gomorrah Casino, you are stripped of all your weapon by the Omerta thug. Apparently, the same thing happened to Boone and his sniper rifle, and he didn't get it back when we left the Gomorrah. Now he is just using his fists and there is no Sniper Rifle to be found. I tried sending him away and went to re-recruit him into the party and still no sniper rifle. Really annoying.

Also, I am about 20 hours in and have yet to see any Wild Wasteland moments. How often are those supposed to happen?

I picked whacky wasteland but I've never ever seen it. Occasionaly, the confused pipboy pic on the top left corner of the screen shows up but I don't see anything around me. Am I missing something?

What does it say about my character when he is willing to help a prostitute find true love for nothing in return, but only agrees to help a grieving widow retrieve her NCR husband's body from a war zone for a fee? :lol

I didn't need to make her ass a part of the deal, I speeched my way into getting it for free before she even told me anything about her sad story! I'm not taking advantage when it's all mutual! :D

Is there more to do in this game?

Fallout 3 got a boring after a while as there was very little to do in the wasteland.

It's sad to see the same engine is being used as several years ago. These games could be so much better on a more up to date engine where the characters don't look and behave like planks (just one example).

You sly little duck you. My characters line for telling her what he wanted for the help was "You know what I want". I might have some good karma and a good rep around the wasteland, but I don't do anything for free.

I'm not that far into the game, but I think the world feels more interesting, more alive than FO3 and there are some very good characters in the game, voice acting is more varied than FO3 too.

There's a hell of a lot to do. Every town has a few quests. Vegas has a truck load and some of these take ages to do.

Agreed about the engine. Nothing that hasn't already been covered.

That used to be true for me, but the Followers of the Apocalypse have shown me that I should help those who cannot help themselves. I am willing to do things for free (especially when they sound interesting) for those who are in a bad situation in life now. Unfortunately for the widow, not only did she know what she was getting into marrying a military man, but it's basically a glorified fetch quest (possibly with people shooting at me too), for something which has NO VALUE TO ANYONE. Yes, I'm a judgmental prick in the wasteland!

So does anyone know the winnings limits in the various casinos? It feels a bit dirty, but I'm basically cheating the slots with quicksave. :p I want enough caps to buy
those lovely implants from the clinic.

Also, is there any way to obtain/buy the prostitute outfits without killing prostitutes? I like to own at least one of every outfit and I'd rather not have to start rampaging the Strip.

This is the only way we could ever get this game, so you'll have to live with this engine for a while longer. Hopefully for Bethesda's next game they will use id Tech 5.

When it comes to if there's more to do... Yeah, I'd say there is. This game has a lot of quests, compared to the measly 25 or so in Fallout 3. Basically there is more of everything in this game. More weapons, more enemies, more towns, more items, more customization, more perks and so on. They have improved upon everything from Fallout 3; except for the graphics I guess.

re: casinos. I was hoping that the inner vegas casinos had a higher limit than the $200 in the one at the atomic wrangler so when I got in, it was the same. I'd say this was the biggest disappointment I have all game. That said, I'm far enough in the game, with high enough barter to be making my money off selling stuff. even if its just so they're damage sponges.

I couldn't have beat one of the factions without the companions there to distract them while I pounded them with the grenade launcher.

I don't know...ED-E's
perception bonus allows me to go a bit weak in that category, combine that boost with Boone and I'm the CEO of random murders

Yep :lol , awesome twist that was

It was a great piece of plot-engineering all around.
You see the town, the smoke, the Legion banners, and you think "Oh, no. What happened here?" Then you see the sign about the lottery, and then the idiot waving his ticket around. The first thing that came to mind was "This is awesome! I can claim the ticket and have an unlimited bankroll so early in the game!"

Yeah, although I suppose there may be limits. Apparently some won't wear faction armor of any faction to which they are opposed, though I haven't actually try that. I gave
Veronica
a leather armor, but she wouldn't wear that over her robes, although she did wear a metal armor that I tried afterward. Best part is that you don't have to reverse pickpocket them like in 3, you just put it in their inventory and if they'll wear it, they wear it. Then you can take it back at any time later.
Boone
seemed mighty upset when I accidentally took his beret though. :D

They probably did that (at least with the slots) because if you could bet higher you'd make an ungodly amount of caps. Hit the triple orange jackpot last night (I think it wound up being ~40000 caps, forget the exact number but definitely over 30000).
