So everytime I walk into the Lucky 38 all the securitrons start to attack me. Is there anything I can do? I haven't done anything to provoke them...

I think there's a warmup period for the laser to hit the ground. Not sure though. Didn't arm it myself.

Fallout 3 already has Fallout 3 Script Extender (as does Oblivion and soon New Vegas) so you can just use the Fallout 3 Stutter Remover (requires the Script Extender) which is a lot more powerful than this 4gb/stutter fix we currently have for NV.

You ...you ...You have KNOW IDEA what you mean to me right now!

I can't believe I went THIS LONG never having known about these! O M F G!!!

The beginning is easily the weakest part of NV, probably because it all feels so familiar and the town is sort of boring. Once you get exploring, running into all the factions, and the story starts to come together it will start to dawn on you just how massive and multilayered the game is. I felt Fallout 3 was pretty one-note in comparison.

The thing that is strange to me is that you are a courier that has lived in the Mojave Wasteland all your life but you act like a newcomer to the world when you start the game.

Eh the Mojave desert is pretty huge, it's pretty easy for me to believe my character had just never ventured to the small slice of the Mojave represented in the game before. Then again, I'm very early on in the story so maybe something comes up later that contradicts that.

I agree. For example was walking down a road and talked to an NPC when he chastised me for not knowing what a "Boomer" member was. Assuming my character is 18 bare minimum, he'd realistically know what one was considering they're relatively well known.

Anyways, here's a couple pics from my adventures today

Come at me, bro.

so what's the verdict on hardcore mode?

on one hand i'm glad it's not the micromanagement hell i was envisioning, where i have to go out of my way to find a bed every in-game day. my character seems to be an insomniac. but i'm a bit disappointed that i hardly ever notice that hardcore mode is on. whenever the message pops up that i need to consume something, i simply do so and proceed on my merry way. it doesn't help that food and water is just so damned abundant. i would have preferred it if they were more scarce and costly, so that that acquisition actually meant something. i love scrounging around every container in every location, anyway.

it's kinda like the radiation, which in F3 was good idea, bad execution as well. you have a meter that goes to a bazillion yet never crosses the first threshold because anti-rad items are too plentiful. tho in NV i loved
vault 3 as i went in unprepared and was burning through x's and aways like crazy.

health replenishing slowly and by increments is a very cool feature, tho.

He got shot in the head. Doc Mitchell didn't put it back together, he just implanted the brain of his dead son into the Courier's healthy young body. Hence the amazement at visiting places he should have been to already.

did anyone else get the glitch where boone looses his sniper rifle and it ends up in your inventory? i can't find anyway to give it back. go to casinos, nothing. reverse pick pocket...? nothing. trade equipment. nope.

i am stuck with his gun in my inventory. when i drop it is impossible to pick back up. so i reloaded. now i'm just stuck with boone using a shitty laser pistol. i can't find ANY solutions.

I remember just wandering around yesterday and came across something really creepy yet awesome. It seemed to be a barrier blocking an alley with a bunch of junk, refrigerators and cars and it said something like
Turn back Courier (paraphrasing)
.

Details? Don't know if I missed it. I have the game running at a solid 60FPS with no issues completely maxed out, except for that occasion stuttering.

I read about the FO3 batch fix and script extender but how would I go about getting it to work with a Steam version of FO3.

Also, any clarification on if the recent Nvidia changes let me remove the .dll file from the game?

And is the water multisampling fix still in effect? Or can I crank that back up as well?

I've run into this a few times now and its really annoying. Hacking is already enough of a pain without it being bugged.

Something like that happened to me yesterday, actually. Except it didn't end up in my inventory. It completely vanished for a while. I tried to reload an old save, and it worked for a second, but whenever we walked into a building the gun would disappear again. After that I let my character sleep for a few hours and when I woke up Boone had his sniper rifle again, but the funny thing is that it still doesn't show up in either characters inventory. He's sure as hell using it, though.

I'm not sure which specific mod AgentOtaku was talking about, but I'm talking about this one:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35262

It fixes stuttering and makes the game able to use more RAM. The only thing you need to do is unpack and run that executable instead of starting the game from Steam, it works from wherever you put the files and also works perfectly with Steam. It's the best solution for now, until NV Script Extender and Stutter Remover are released.

Same thing happened to me but with Arcade. Steal? No, I just want to pick it back up... what's so harsh is that followers have unlimited ammo only with their starting weapon.

My Ed-E mission popped though.

i'd be less worried about having to find a bed to sleep in every day (especially since you can fast travel) and more concerned about fighting with the awful inventory system more often. i agree it's probably not as big a deal as it should be right now, though.

damn, i just attempted this. i tried dropping the weapon, taking a long nap. then i tried having him unfollowing me. taking a nap and finding him again. nothing is working! gahhhhh.

i'm with you, its lame they can only use it on their starting weapon. he was wasting so much ammo on the gun i gave him i finally just gave him a machete and nothing else.

Yea, I'm using that currently. New Vegas Stuttering Fix is up though. The one that relies on the script extender. It's a prelim version because, obviously, the SE isn't out.

About damn time.

Level 4, cannibal perk. Real Fallout New Vegas starts now. No more worrying about food consumption in hardcore mode.
Hardcore mode definitely helps tie in EVERYTHING that wasn't exactly necessary to worry about in FO3. Honestly, default play should have been hardcore mode and a hardcore mode option will permanent death ala Diablo would have made it even more interesting.

Among other changes, of course.

Or perhaps death penalties. Revival at a facility from cloning and having to scavenge your body, perhaps being consumed by animals, to retrieve your items etc.

Considering I've only died twice from Alpha Males and once for being extremely stupid and not checking a trap in Charlie, I think it would be more than feasible.

I don't disagree but I think it's fine the way it is and giving more options for an more extreme hardcore mode would be understandable, I think this way because I like the game the way it is without hardcore mode but there is definitely a place for the hardcore mode with more challenges or restrictions but I look forward to playing through on hardcore just to see how it is.

Man, I really dislike Hardcore mode.

I welcome the difficulty, but I really dislike the restraints.

Hopefully someone makes a very, very hard mod that does not require me to watch my h20 levels.

Usually I'd agree, but the whole Vault Dweller thing has been done a couple of times now so I'm glad they took a different route. I had fun finding out what happened to me.

Have you done any Boomer missions yet? You can get a rebreather from them so you can stay under water forever.

Yea, there's nothing wrong with it now. They've done an excellent job of combating what's hardcore with hardcore mode and not just tedious stat-checking.

I'm just thinking of an alternate hardcore style for an advanced level of realism. Or at least as real as you can get in a video game set in the post-apocalyptic past.

A shitty example is dirty water quenching your thirst as much as purified water.

They should have included a form of a water product with electrolytes.

It's what plants need, after all.

I had some real troubles maintaining a proper water supply early in the game. It got to the point that I always bought all I could from every trader.

Pretty much every major issue I had on release has been fixed either by the community or driver updates. Holy shit this community is badass.

True, but there are so many other ways they could have done it beside "amnesia."

There is no way to lower the water. It's possible to swim through all of it without taking drowning damage by stopping for air in some of the rooms that have high enough ceilings that there is air. It's much easier with lockpicking because it allows you to bypass a lot of the water.

Timber said:

Still too easy to break the game and any sort of 'survival' feeling with quick travel and quicksaves. It's an RPG played for story, not challenge. If you want a challenging survival game, play Left 4 Dead on expert.

It's awesome and the only way to play the game as far as I am concerned. Having to carry water and food is great and the Survival skill+campfires can be a godsend in Hardcore mode. I also very much like the health system of hardcore mode, especially how stimpacks can't heal limbs. It just adds another layer of realism for me and now that I have played with it, I won't be able to turn it off.

I do wish hardcore mode affected your companions more though. First time I went into Vault 34, I put a radiation suit on Boone, but I didn't need to. Also, stimpacks shouldn't instaheal your companions, I have been able to abuse that quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them reload, too... just can't remember how long it takes. I've got shitloads of stuff I need to unload.

BTW, those fucking poisonous giant fly things that start with a C are deadly. They're my absolute least favorite thing thing to fight.

Also, currently 25 hours in at level 15. I've got a looooong way to go.
