I loved FO3 but I just can't get interested in New Vegas. Maybe it's the setting...I don't know.

Can someone please explain exactly how it's supposedly way better than FO3?

^^ Who is that girl and would I have to play as a female to hear her voice?

Choice and consequences, writing, quest design, factions, pacing, characters, voice acting.
What about weapons, armor, perks and skills?

Agree with this 100%

LOVE the choice and consequences. No black and white, just a whole lot of gray! I'm on my second play through and already thinking of how I'll play my third haha!

More weapons. More armor and return of Damage Threshold. Perk rate is balanced (1 perk every two levels instead of every level) and you get special perks for doing achievement-like things (kill 50 insects get a bonus to damage against bugs, use so many addictive drugs get a bonus to how long they last, etc). Skills are balanced in that its impossible to become a master of everything and almost every skill is useful for either skill checks during dialog or just plain useful.

The weapons in New Vegas are way better than Fallout 3. More melee weapons that are extremely powerful. Plenty of types of guns which can be modded with things like scopes, larger magazines, chokes for shotguns, etc... Guns also use various types of ammo, a 12 gauge can use buckshot, magnum buckshot, slugs, coinshot, beanbag rounds. Plenty of variety and a weapon for just about anyone. You can also use a reloading bench to craft your own bullets.

Speaking of crafting, you can make so many things in this game. From various ammo types at the reloading bench, to all kinds of foods at a campfire and finally other items like stimpacks and chems at a workbench. You can craft lots of useful items and there are also weapons to be made like Fallout 3. It seems like just about every item you can pick up in the world, can be used for crafting something.

The dogs had unique names, right? I encountered that right outside Helios One, they fell from the sky and were loud as hell, it was hilarious.

Yep, it was there. It's too bad that Rex had to see that.

One of my favorites so far :lol

OMG! :lol

I haven't been able to see any of these because I'm a speech god. So hilarious! I get to pick failure lines due to Medicine and Barter all the time though. :lol

Is it possible to change the color of the HUD as it was in FO3? Not a fan of the ugly yellow. Maybe that's what is turning me off about this game.

Well, Ive just walked out of a door omly for the game to spawn me inside Boone so neither of us can go anywhere I'm stuck, and even if I fast travel I spawn stuck inside Boone....

FFS, what makes it worse is I just quicksaved before it happened, so my auto save and my quick save is stuck in a bastard loop of spawning me inside Boone...Awesome, my last main save is fucking 3 hours ago...

Don't know if I've got the heart to go through all that again....

Try this: fast travel to a location where you expect enemies to be, use unarmed or melee, go into VATS and target the furthest enemy which is still within range. When the attack triggers in VATS, you often get "teleported" to the enemy. This might unstuck you.

Ran into my first bug.

Walked into a building and got stuck on nothing. Ended up being killed but it worked fine the next time round.

Really enjoying it so far. It's making me want to start FO3 again.

Edit: Yay for going around in a pre-war checkered shirt with a machete :lol

Yeah, I barely... and I do mean BARELY... completed that quest last night. I was up to 700+ RADS, 5% remaining life, three broken limbs when I beat it and that was after I had died 10+ times.

Beat it without dying, 210 on the RAD scale, with no issues. Burned through 30 RadAway's and 10 Rad-X's though.

Vault 34 taught me that
drugs and alcohol are in fact the answer to the question "What should I consume if I'm raiding a highly radioactive vault full of glowing ghouls?"
.

But seriously,
drugs like psycho and jet made the place pretty easy, that and cowering behind Terminator Boone armed with a flamethrower taking pot shots with my 10mm submachinegun.

Beat it, clocked in +60 hours. So good.

A little pissed about some of the badass gear (only being available after you cross the point of no return but hey that's what mods are for)

In the end I feel like it's quite significantly better as a game than 3 was, although the DC waste land was better realized from geographic standpoint, everything else was so much better in this one.

Cheers, I had to knock Boone and E-DE unconscious with a fire axe and that freed me.....

Seems a bit disappointing the feedback about energy weapons. I rolled an energy weapon character to start and haven't gotten any good energy weapon that does decent damage. Any suggestions were to find one?

Hidden Valley: Missing Laser Pistol Subquest (won't show up in your quest log - you need to talk to the woman at the Brotherhood gun range to initiate it).

REPCONN HQ: There's quantum plasma or laser rifle here that's not as good as the laser rifle you get after completing the missing laser pistol subquest at Hidden Valley, but it's not bad either.

That said, I'm still mightily unimpressed with energy weapons on this playthrough. Obsidian either intentionally depowered them in New Vegas, or it's a bug, or there's something wrong with my character build (I don't have the exact stats right now, but I have medium low strength, endurance, high intelligence, charisma). I had a similar build in Fallout 3 and I was dusting challenging opponents like deathclaws and supermutants left and right with my energy weps in that game.

OK I hate to ask so many questions, but this one has been driving me crazy...

I'm at the hidden valley, how the hell do I
get into the Brotherhood's base? I found one little room but the door literally went nowhere and I found a hollowed out rock right at the waypoint but it just had a few items in it

Yeah, the lots of gray stuff is great. Kind of like The Pitt in Fallout 3.

That's
not the only bunker entrance. It's hard to see at night when the sandstorm comes up, but if you go back during the day you'll see at least two other bunker entrances. You should check them out. :)

On your way to Black mountain, you'll find two dead brotherhood members. There will be a hollowtape with a password. When you reach the correct bunker, use the intercom and the option to use the password will appear.

Beyond the Beef is so awesome.

I fucked that quest up so bad

I agreed to get a replacement for the main course, but thought it would be ok to take care of the ranchers son first...bad idea. Everybody turned hostile and me and boone had to fight off the white glove's with flamers using only our fists (no concealable weapons, oi). Get out of the kitchen thinking it would be ok now...nope, the rancher and his guard are boomsticking the faces off of everybody, and soon enough the entire casino floor is covered in blood and bodies. Completed the quest, but now the casino has no real function as the banker died as well so no way to get chips, and the rancher and his guard are still in there just standing around

Have you guys seen the bug-cheats on GT? Level 30 in a matter of minutes? Damn, kinda takes the enjoyment out of the game to do that. Hopefully this will force the devs to patch the game quicker.

i dont really care about those kinds of glitches. Its single-player so its not like there is an unfair advantage.

The way I see it, if there's an exploit that's clearly a bug and the player decides to make use of it, that's the player's choice. If he wants to take the fun out of the game, it's his time and money, he's entitled to it. It doesn't stop anyone else from playing it normally and ignoring the exploit loops.

Then don't do it, it's not like you could accidental do them and hit 30. If I really wanted to level to 30, I'd just open the console and do it.

I can't get Boone to follow me anymore. I used him for a while after getting him as a companion, then sent him back to Novac while I did missions around the strip. Now I want him as I
make a final push for the NCR cause.
he's in his hotel room but won't leave with me. The companion wheel comes up, everything is set for him to follow, but he won't. And he keeps saying "what is it?", every 2 fucking seconds. What can I do to fix this?

Are there any 'evil' companions who don't bitch or leave when you make questionable karmic choices? :D If so, can someone spoiler it for me and tell me where to acquire them.
