Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

So, uh, grabbed the YCS gauss rifle.

Energy+Sneak is fucking insane. Mainly because YCS is the best weapon in the game, but yeah. The challenge has disappeared.

Need some help. I feel like i may have missed some armor along the way. I am getting absolutely destroyed when i try to explore vaults and do combat-heavy quests, despite having very high Gun skills.

Anybody want to tell me where i can find some decent armor?

once you clear level 10, gun runners up in vegas has good armor. You can buy reinforced combat armor.

Didn't actually think about this at all until I was approaching it just now in the dark of night. Oh, so that's why it's called Novac. :lol

i like wild wasteland, but it would have been better if the folks at obsidian had seen some movies other than star wars and monty python in the time that's elapsed since the release of fallout 2. but references to references have their charm, too.

Wild Wasteland is such a waste. All the stuff in it should just have been a regular part of the game, no one would have minded.

Agreed, Wild Wasteland was such a dissapointment, only thing good about it were the
Holy handgrenades

on my 2nd playthrough, again, I picked WW in the hopes that whatever I missed on my first run, I will see. I've wiped out HOUSE+LEGION now and I have seen ZERO WW events.

what a piece of garbage trait.

No splattered space whale for sure.

Can't remember if they had this in Fallout3, but I know there was enough wackiness in the overworld (crash landed spacecraft + ant queen etc) to make that world a tad more interesting.

yes, when I realised, I thought "very clever".

How much did you invest into sneak?

If this is the vault I think it is, there is a terminal in a room to the left of the door to armoury, and then you un-flood one area with that, and then there is another terminal in the unflooded area

I'm stuck in vault 34...

I'm in the armory and I have the password but I can't find a way to get into the overseers office. The guide says I have to use a terminal in the area but I can't find one..

Anyone?

there should be a console somewhere that allows you to use it. Can't help if we're not there. I found them all easily enough.+

since you're using the guide, each locked door is unlocked with a password you find from some dead person submerged in the toxic liquid. so if you know where these are, then you'll get the password to open the doors

as above. get them + scour you map.

The only problem I had in that vault was finding out where the
passwords
are.

I finally had to leave that place because of the exact same problem. The only terminal I found required 100 science. I ran out of rad meds and had to leave.

I have 90, which is probably overkill since I'm shooting people 100 yards away.

I have 100 sneak and I really wished this game had a skill tree for pickpocket. Getting caught way too often even with that and luck at 9.

I had a funny moment in Vault 34 because of a glitch.
For some reason when I entered Boone and ED-E didn't follow me in, which made it a hell of a lot tougher, then when I was getting one of the passwords my character got stuck on a dresser and drowned. When I respawned or whatever I guess whatever was wrong with Boone and ED-E fixed itself and Boone came running around a corner towards me, surprised me so much I set him on fire.

Vault 34 is a clusterfuck. No rhyme or reason to the layout it just exists to be annoying.

Its not that bad. Its the atmosphere and the fact that it was
radiated
that makes it terrible.

eg. I though the vault motel was a mess to run around in. Same shit different story.

Vault 22's
later BOS quest to get the airfilter
made it ever more confusing as to where you're meant to go.

i actually kinda love the fact that there's a lot more irradiated areas in new vegas than in f3.

but yeah, vault layouts can be so obtuse.

Yeah it's pretty terrible. Worst part is the scripted spawns of enemies, sucks when your companions fall behind and gets stuck in a cluster of ghouls (unless it's Boone, then it sucks for the ghouls)... and all these "inaccessible" doors with enemies behind them really screws with the companion AI as well.

Add to that terrible performance issues (which I had, froze for a few milliseconds whenever I turned) and you have a very frustrating experience.

I finally decided to venture north of Goodsprings now that I'm level 9.

God Cazador's are hard. I really, really hate these enemies. If it wasn't for Boone, I wouldn't be surviving any of these battles (as it stands, my survival rate is about 50% when I encounter these enemies). They can take 6 head shots from my Cowboy Repeater and keep coming. Scary!

They fuck Boone up pretty good too.

Edit - Finally found some Combat Armor which makes me happy.

Can get some badass black Combat Armor during Cass's quest. The kind Silver Rush guards wear.

I don't recommend playing on hardcore. It doesn't really add anything but potential frustration and tediousness to the game. Well, the stimpack change is good.

Wrong. It improves combat tenfold by making it more tactical and the deprivation stuff isn't frustrating at all.

I like the changes it makes to healing and limb damage.

The eating/drinking I could do without, or wouldn't mind it being made more user friendly (scrolling through all my items to find gecko steak or purified water is annoying). Should be able to eat/drink from the status screen like how you can heal/de-rad from there.

For the 5th Mr. House quest,
Is there anyway to complete it without pissing off the Brotherhood?

the quest where you
kill the BOS by blowing up their base? I did that but after it, there's really only veronica left in the real world that is BOS
so... I'd say no...

It's the major difference. What are you struggling with?
Nothing at all, all the other features are just pointless and either do nothing or make you do additional pointless trips to heal/sell items/eat or reload if your companion dies. Better just to mod the stim change in.

for the OCD gamer (the kind that grinds up to the max level whenever possible, or scrounges for every hidden item) I think it adds a lot to the game. but the fact that you can turn it off any time is a good feature to have in case you don't like it.

The food/water stuff isn't really tedious at all. Just drink water and eat food when the warning pops up. There's enough grub lying around the wasteland that you never really need to look for it.

And stim changes makes Medicine/Survival much more valuable, since you can't just binge on stimpacks to heal up like in normal. Overall, Hardcore makes it a much better game.

If you're reloading when your companion dies, you're doing it wrong.

And there aren't really any "additional pointless trips." You should almost always have what you need in your inventory. It simply adds an extra layer of management, but it isn't a big deal either way. The key to hardcore mode comes in how it modifies combat.

Wow, this game went from meh to amazing while I was playing today. I'm roughly 10 hours in.

This seems to be the general consensus. With Fallout 3 it seems like the awesome begins from the outset, the world is your oyster but with New Vegas it requires a bit of a slow burn. It became awesome for me once I got to the Gun Runners and was able to really deck myself out.

The problem is since it's still using Oblivions retarded weight system, it isn't really balanced in terms of carrying capacity. The original Fallout games didn't have item degredation so you didn't need to carry around a bunch of spare shit to repair them which in turn makes giving the ammo weight a logical limiter. It doesn't work when bolted onto Bethesda's stupid system.

I'm carrying around a gauss rifle, a plasma rifle, and 400* MFC rounds with tons of food and still go up to just 120 or so total weight. It's nowhere near unmanageable. With the repair changes you can easily stack weapons and armor loot, and there's always companions who, at the very least, offer 400+ lbs of storage if you bring two of them along.

edit: oops

Sandstorms are fucking awesome.

(edit)

Also, for a simple solution to inventory capacity prior to obtaining a home, USE THE COURIER BOXES.

Use your party members inventory. Most members can easily carry 200+ weight.

I just hate the fact that having to eat and drink is practically a non-concern. When they originally talked about this system I imagined that you would have to stock up on food and water between each trip into the wasteland, and that you could run the risk of running out of provisions in the middle of the desert, meaning you'd have to try and scavenge some of the plants in the area for sustenance.

The same is really true for the sleep system, since you'll only feel the effects of sleep deprivation after like 3 straight days without sleeping. They should really have made stricter requirement for sleeping regularly, and then just included a sleeping bag you could bring around with you, instead of forcing you into civilization to sleep in a bed.

The current survival aspect of hard core mode is VERY disappointing, and feels incredibly tacked on and poorly playtested to me. Don't even get me started on the half-assed interface to even see your hunger/drink/sleep needs.

The stimpak change is nice though, as well as the limb recovering, although all of this still suffers from the problem that the economy in the game is completely broken, and you can usually just buy a huge surplus of anything you need, including doctor's bags. I would've liked if they had added weight to all the chems like they did with ammo as well. If carrying capacity became a serious issue from this, they could've included some kind of 'backpack upgrade' system.

It doesn't help that the first two towns (Primm and Nipton) are rundown and generally boring. Mojave Outpost is like 2 buildings and Novac is a good 3-5 hours away from the start of the game.

I loved Primm just because I got to see the devs version of Desperado which was my first "hypercoaster". :D

I agree. As someone who loves going to Vegas and Stateline, Primm was great.

I've never been on that coaster in real life. Scares the shit out of me. I've heard people who've been on it tell me they'll never go on it again. The casinos are nice though. The Bonnie and Clyde car is a nice display and adds a very unique aspect to the casino.

I agree that the economy in the game is broken. I'm playing on normal and have never needed to buy a single item. The only things I've bought money on are people who demand money for certain things to complete a quest. I've barely even sold anything. I'm a hoarder, and not because I want to be. I have hundreds upon hundreds of things in my safe in Goodsprings. I haven't had to, but weapons are worth waaay too much money. Even simple hand combat weapons can be worth 2000 dollars.

Oh, and in the Come Fly With Me quest, where you have to
buy the item from the old chick, I just went into her house and stole it. I'm not giving her my 500 caps, that stupid whore.

Edit - In Fallout 3, I played through the game on the hardest difficulty, and still never needed to buy a single item in the entire game. The economy was just as broken there. The only thing I ever spent money on was a single brothel visit in Megaton to renew my health early in the game. That was my only monetary purchase.
