Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

WTF.

Startup Fallout: New Vegas on the 360. There's a patch. It's a bug-riddled mess so I happily download it and restart.

Go to load my latest save and it says some downloadable content I've downloaded is no longer available, which is odd since I've never downloaded any, but I continue anyway.

And then it hangs while loading the save. Or any other save. WTF Obsidian?

Edit: It's a known problem. Still, this isn't exactly helping Obsidian's track record...

From the official forums:
On consoles, we are aware that a small group of 360 users are seeing a DLC warning which is preventing you from loading save games. We are absolutely looking into this bug now, along with other reports of save game corruption. It is our highest priority right now that we find out what is causing it. In the meantime, we recommend you save often, and revert to an older save if this occurs.

Fuck really? I literally just bought this game. I guess no DLC for me then.

The thing is, I haven't even bought any DLC. When I start any saved game it says the DLC I've downloaded isn't available so some things might be missing, and prompts me to continue. When I do, the game freezes the whole system.

Not impressed.

Actually, I just noticed that post on the official forums was from October 2010, but the error listed is exactly the problem I'm having. Apparently the issue was resolved in December 2010. What gives, Obsidian?

Do you have any of the pre-order items, because those count as DLC too.

WHERE THE FUCK IS HONEST HEARTS?!?!?!?!!?!! ARGGHHHHHHHHHHH.

In other news, yesterday I decided to do a bunch of main game stuff I ignored previously, and had a lot of fun. I brought Boone with me as I cleared out Cottonwood Cove and the Fort, including Ceaser. That was enough to finally trigger his companion quest, and I beat that too. One quest I had fun with before that was the one where you look for Frank Weather's family...

I found them, took out the Legion guards, was trying to free then, but every single one I talked to just bitched bitched bitched at everything, and whined whined whined about Frank being a bad father, and bitched some more about their current situation.

I got sick of it, and in the end instead of helping deactivate their collars I just went....

Loved Boone's companion quest, one of my favorites for sure.

I laughed out loud at your spoilers.

And I loved Boones companion quest, it really fleshed him out nicely as a character.

Today I cleared Return to Sender, all the other quests in Camp Forlorn Hope and Bitter Springs, and did Vault 11. Also finally completely my Snowglobe Collection.

STILL NO HONEST HEARTS ANNOUCEMENT.

Sad duck is sad. :(

For being so vocal about this game, I'm surprised you still haven't acquired a maxed-out save file. :p

They still haven't announced Honest Hearts yet? Crazy. I mean we're even supposed to get some Old World Blues information soon. What a catastrophe.

Yup, same deal as some of the rest of you guys. Updated the 360 version, only to now not have any of my previous saves load.

How did you like meeting Chief Hanlon?

Honestly, he was the most compelling NPC I've met in the game. Kris Kristofferson gave him such a great presence.

I actually met Hanlon many months ago. It wasn't my first visit to Camp Golf. I didn't spend much time in Camp Forlorn Hope at all though, so I never did Return to Sender until now. It actually pretty interesting how it all ties together, because I still distinctly remember the long chat I had about Hanlon months back when I was still playing through the game, and how we discussed his work, his career, and the direction of the NCR. Completing the quest gave his character arc a lot more context and closure. It was pretty solid.

When the hell are they gonna fix the quest "that lucky old sun"?

When you send power to one of the areas (i chose full regen) then power up HELIOS1, both Fantastic and Ignacio don't mention what you did when you talk to them. Thus you don't get any bonus items from them. The quest is complete but i wanted reputation from the followers of the apocalypse.

I think I remember getting NCR fame from that quest, but nothing from the Followers. All the Followers' fame comes from quests in Freeside.

I think you have to divert power to Freeside to get the Apocalypse boost. If you spread the love out there for everyone, your faction relationships do not adjust (iirc).

What's the word on the next DLC? Sierra Madre left so many dangling carrots...

Did you talk to Fantastic and Ignacio? When you talk to them no new dialog option comes up about sending power to the areas.

No you do get reputation:

McCarran and Las Vegas: By directing the extra power toward Camp McCarran and the Strip, the power will be transferred to the NCR home states along with the energy generated at Hoover Dam and part of it to power the neon lights in the casinos in New Vegas. You will gain NCR fame for making this decision.

Fremont and Westside: This solution will direct all the power toward the two poorest areas in the New Vegas area and the FOA camps located there. This pleases the Followers of the Apocalypse, though it won't benefit as many people as it potentially could.

Full region: The 'best' solution. The energy will be distributed to the entire regional grid equally, but as a result everyone will only get a small amount of energy and the plant will suffer frequent brownouts. You will gain a large amount of Followers of the Apocalypse reputation and Ignacio Rivas will give you skill books and stimpaks as a reward for making this decision.

ARCHIMEDES II: This solution diverts power to the next-generation space laser system mentioned in the terminal notes and will give the player the option of calling down space-laser strikes once every two days, provided the player has also obtained Euclid's C-Finder. The Followers are satisfied with this option, as Ignacio Rivas does not know the location to which the power has been diverted. However, Ignacio will not give you a Big Book of Science as part of your reward.

Full region (emergency output level): This solution overloads the plant, which prevents Archimedes I from being activated (see further notes). This gains no reputation with any faction, but Ignacio Rivas will still give the player some rewards.

EDIT- sorry for the DP.

I'm lvl34 now, almost hitting lvl35. Cleared more quests today, like Legend of the Star and Wheel of Fortune. Also got a few achievements for doing random stuff when I was bored. What I've been doing for the past few days is rolling with a different party member each time I did a set of stuff, just to make it more interesting.

While it's good to know that the game has a shitload of content, and I can keep myself occupied even when the next DLCs are totally MIA... it doesn't really make me feel any happier about how Bethesda is handling this situation.

When the news of Honest Hearts and Old World Blues first leaked in March, they tweeted that the information is "not entirely accurate" and that they would have an update in "a few weeks."

In April, after the trailer was "leaked" on Youtube, they posted that the next DLC was completely done, and they were just waiting for a patch to be released. They said the DLC would be announced very soon.

Now we're 3 weeks from that date, the Honest Hearts banner has been on XBL for 2 weeks now, the Honest Hearts achievements/trophies have been made public for a week, and the patch is out on all platforms. Hell, the 360 patch even got patched too! Still no announcement, no hints, no communication.

It's as if Bethesda hates the fanbase and wants everyone to forget about New Vegas. WTF is going on?!

this is a good post on New Vegas mods

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26896080&postcount=2

Definitely try the 2 New Vegas bounty mods. In terms of gameplay mods they're probably the best and rival official DLC.

Are there any mods besides those that are good to have? i first played Fallout 3 on ps3 which is obviously not moddable and haven't seen it low enough on sale on Steam for me to pick it up yet. However I got New Vegas from my girlfriend for my birthday on PC and want to mod it as well as I can.

These are the mods I currently have installed, I haven't actually started a game yet so I can add anything that is useful:

A World of Pain
Project Nevada
Electro-City
NV Bounties 1/2
Weapon Mods Expanded
Nevada Skies
Detailed Normals Texture Pack
Enhanced Shaders
MTUI
New Vegas - Re-animated

Anything else I should add for at least my first playthrough?

I'd save A World of Pain for after you've beaten the game, unless you don't mind being overpowered or can resist collecting the overabundant skill books and advanced weapons found at almost every turn.

Those are most of the meaty ones, the rest really come down to your play style. For instance I got a perk every level mod and a level 50 mod (it's really 100 but Dead Money seems to lock the cap in to 50 no matter what mod you use). I also have a bobblehead mod that randomly places I think 20 of them around for added stat boosts.

I also got War Never Changes which is supposed to be some decent sized extra NCR quest line starting in Camp McCarren but the guy I was supposed to talk to got trapped in that interrogation room and the only way to unlock the door is do the interrogation side quest, which I had already done. So that guy is presumably stuck there.

As for World of Pain, once you hit around level 10 and get Boone and EDE you can do 80% of that large underground place. After that you'll have a chance to attack Tech Raiders, DO NOT DO THIS. I was close to level 20 and I was destroyed instantly. I dont know how high you need to be to fight them but it's pretty high.

Thanks guys, I will probably take out A World of Pain for now if it's game breaking difficulty wise.

By the way, is the 1st DLC any good? I've heard conflicting reports on it just like some of the Fallout 3 DLC.

Dead Money is solid and it'll prepare you for future DLC. It took me in the ballpark of 10~12 hours to finish--I took my time with it--and I highly recommend it. Be warned it's one of those types of quests where you start with nothing but will get all of your previous gear back once you are done.
