just grabbed new vegas for pc... any good graphics mods out there that are essential?

I put together this Essential Mods List earlier today. I just bought the game too so I haven't played it yet, but I have been doing a lot of research and preparation on what mods to get. hopefully this list is up to par, and I think it is.

Well the game now keeps crashing when i first enter Zion. I turned off all the mods, and it still crashes. Perhaps it's because my save file was too dependent on the mods and it can't run properly without it?

I really don't want to have to go back to an old save file or start a fresh game. That would suck.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I bought the DLCs off Steam yesterday and can't wait to get back into New Vegas.

So what are the general tips before starting the new quests? Strip yourself near-naked?

Dead Money will strip you naked. You should probably be level 20 at least when you start. You probably want to dump all your stuff at the Lucky 38 or something because when you get back you will have way too much on your self to just pick up all your old gear.

Honest Hearts will force you to carry only 75 (100 with dialogue check) pounds of equipment, so you put it away for later.

If you are facing a specific crash which happens at the same location over and over, instead of trying to disable mods or whatever, try this instead. Go into the properties of NV in Steam, and select the "check file integrity" option or whatever. It will check all the base game files, and will probably find an error, and redownload a file. After that, load the game again and it should no longer crash. Hope that helps you.

Thanks, i'll try that. When i was on high level character, it always crashed in Zion once i opened my pip boy. I went back to an earlier file (about 20 hours back), and it works just fine. But i do want to do it with my high level character.

One question about Honest Hearts though.

I'm not exactly sure where to go. Once i got there, Jed and the other caravan guards were killed and i was left alone. I was constantly getting attacked by everyone, and once i made it to a camp site in the north, i was attacked once again by the people there. Once i took them out i failed a bunch of quests.

After reading up about it on the wiki site, it turns out i activated Chaos in Zion quest, which basically skips the entire expansion. I'm not sure how it turned out that way though, since they were the ones that attacked me first.

Do you know what i did to trigger? I was getting attacked by everyone.

Yeah, there's a bit of dodgy design at the start which makes it easy to fuck up.

When you first cross the bridge after the ambush, the hostile tribal who is on a small cliff shooting at you will be ambushed from behind by a friendly tribal. This is a scripted NPC event, but it also means that while you're under fire, you could well go into VATS, and see two tribals there, and not knowing that one is non-hostile, shoot and kill them both.

Yeaaaah. That's not a design decision I can defend, but at least you know how to avoid it now! Lol.

Which one is friendly again?

That's very silly. It's ridiculously easy to see as both of them being hostile.

Between now and Thursday, the latest title update for Fallout: New Vegas will deploy across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. In addition to adding support for New Vegas’ next DLC, Old World Blues, the update will bring improvements to performance and stability, as well as a new feature that automatically creates a save before the endgame sequence.

Change Log

- New feature: system save is automatically created prior to endgame sequence. After credits, user is prompted to load save game. This will allow single save players to play DLC without creating a new game.
- Fixed issue where Minigun audio could get stuck/keep playing indefinitely when fired out of VATS.
- Script fix to restore destroyed ED-E. This should address issues players have with attempting to use certain companions (e.g. Rex) or when the player needs to clear his or her companions before entering an area (e.g. Zion / Honest Hearts).
- New “Companion Dismissal Terminals” added to Gun Runners and Lucky 38. These will allow players with lost companions from earlier patches to force-fire if they are experiencing problems attempting to get into DLC or areas that prevent companions from entering.
- Arms no longer lifted above head when sneaking with certain weapons.
- Fixed sound cutting out after extended playthroughs.
- Massive world optimizations in major areas for better stability/performance with multiple DLCs installed.
- Players can now have six or more DLCs installed without encountering an infinite “loading DLC” message on startup.
- Navmesh fixes/NPCs no longer getting stuck.
- Scripts added to keep certain NPCs who were marked as dead from respawning.
- Extensive world optimizations for Hoover Dam.
- Fixed lockup with Ranger Grant’s forcegreet at HD/NCR path.
- Fixed NPC AI packages so they don’t get stuck at HD.
- Fixed bug where upgraded ED-E could be killed in non-hardcore mode.
- Post-assassination Kimball now gets removed prior to Hoover Dam battle.
- Fixed navmesh around Camp Searchlight to improve performance over long soaks.
- Searchlight Troopers don’t bump into each other as often.
- Fixed navmesh on HD Observation Deck.
- New teleport locations for Legion path through Hoover Dam. Improves performance.
- Radio stations will work properly now if DLC is uninstalled.
- Fixed instances where it was possible to fast travel during Hoover Dam battle.
- Fixed case where recruited Remnants were hostile to player during HD battle on Independent and House paths. They will still turn hostile if you shoot them too much though.
- Two vending machines in Hoover Dam were facing the wrong way.
- Made it so Big Sal/Nero no longer accepts yield if the other is already dead.
- Removed Brotherhood objectives when ED-E is given to the Followers.
- Fixed rare instance where Cachino turned hostile on the player if player attacks Big Sal/Nero prior to Cachino entering the room.
- Fixed crashes in Ultra-Luxe.
- Fixed Alpha Squad snipers getting stuck when told to support player.
- Fix for Lily’s weapon being displayed oddly on her back..
- Improvements to navmesh and pathing in Great Khan Longhouse. Fixes crashes.
- Plasma Spaz now gives 20% AP reduction (was 10%).
- Fixed crash after hearing certain ED-E dialog triggers.
- Fixed instance where Boone would constantly holster his rifle in combat if player had lost rep with the NCR.
- Veronica no longer waits for player to speak to her before leaving after Hidden Valley is destroyed.
- Extensive optimizations in McCarran.
- Optimized NPC packages at Camp Golf to improve performance. Misfits now stay in a normal radius.
- Arcade now properly rants against Caesar (once).
- Motor-Runner Helmet now properly 0 weight. Also removed after quest completes.
- NCR Heavy Troopers will now attack player if you attack Hsu.
- Vulpes (and Alerio) now properly forcegreet if you somehow fast travel before their initial forcegreet fires.
- Killing hostages while helping Khans no longer fails quest.
- Gilbert/Ackerman now properly stay dead if murdered.
- Mr. New Vegas will only mention failed NCR attack on Powder Gangers if Troopers are dead and Eddie is alive.
- Fixed case where player could break quest with Orris if they fast traveled after he shoots thugs, but before forcegreet.
- Generic Powder Gangers now set as Aggressive (previously Very Aggressive).
- Fixed rare case of black screen during dialog at REPCONN facility.
- Fixed phantom quest marker remaining on Major Knight after he’s killed.
- Fix for incorrect dialog if player meets Bryce Anders after killing Motor Runner.
- Player can no longer isolate the BoS virus by hitting “isolate virus” three times on a single console.
- Fixed crash related to Arcade leaving the Remnants bunker.
- Fixed Nightkin encounter at Tumbleweed Ranch to occur after user reloads a save.
- Arcade will no longer attempt to initiate his quest during Hoover Dam.
- Hoover Dam Boomer Bombing Run now works properly after save/reload.

- Fixed issue where Omerta thugs wouldn’t leave Freeside if you killed Joana and Carlitos.
- Cazador Poison Effect sound no longer plays globally if someone, somewhere gets stung. Only plays if the player is hit.
- Player can no longer repair the Grenade Launcher with the minigun.
- Fix for companions going into unconscious/conscious cycle over and over again when stung with Cazador poison. In normal mode (or against companions), Cazador poison now lasts 8 seconds, doing 18 points of damage per second. It is, in fact, even deadlier than the normal version, but lasts 1/4 as long. In hardcore mode or against the player, poison remains 30 seconds/5 damage per second.
- Casino slot scripts altered so their max bets do not produce game economy-ruining levels of cap overflow
- Hit the Deck and Stonewall now properly work with player’s weapon condition. Hit the Deck is now +25 DT vs. Explosives instead of +50% vs. Explosives.
- Adjusted Deathclaw fatigue to make them less exploitable with certain attacks. Inconsistent health values for Deathclaws were also corrected (in favor of stronger Deathclaws).
- Cazadores are now properly flagged as fliers, so they won’t set off mines.
- Increased radii for plasma and pulse grenades.
- Fixed bug where rescued Powder Gangers would return to the legion camp.

There is a major stability patch coming out anytime between now and the 19th of July. Tons of bug fixes and memory performance issues are supposed to be fixed in the patch. The last big patch was in April, and it improved the balance of almost all the weapons substantially.

It looks like the new title update is coming sometime between today and Thursday. From the Bethesda forums:

Just bought the game plus the two DLC expansions and was wondering about the most efficient way to build my character before I start the game.

I'm looking for tips like how in Fallout 3 none of your stats should have been higher than 9 because each SPECIAL had a bobblehead associated with it that you could find and how you should set your intelligence up to 9 and head on over to the aircraft carrier immediately to grab the bobblehead that brought it to 10 so that you have the most possible points when you level up. You were supposed to avoid any perks that get XP faster because you'll hit the level cap soon anyways and get the perks that increase the points handed out the by magazines/books. Basically I'm looking for tips like that for New Vegas. Thanks!

I'm kind of disappointed I see no mention of Raul in that fixlist. I thought his sidequest had already been fixed, but apparently it's still bugged. I can never get him to make a remark after he and I encounter Ranger Andy in Novac. I tried taking him to Loyal and Corporal Sterling first, and he did react accordingly when meeting them, but he still doesn't do anything when I go back to Andy.

Why did Obsidian put an endgame into this after all the shit Bethesda got for Fallout 3's?

Bethesda didn't get shit for not letting you play beyond the ending, it got shit for having a shitty ending

Uh, no they got a lot of shit for not being able to play beyond the ending. As did Obsidian this time, and Black Isle back in 1997.

I'm excited for OWB, if only to see just how much they've changed of the EPA stuff.

Just got the DLC for this game yesterday. I just started up another game (only played past the first town on an earlier save) Is it better to do the DLC after the main quest or can I do it at anytime?

Until the next patch sometime this week, you won't be able to do any of the DLC if you complete the main quest (because the game ends). If you're starting a new game, you'll want to do it earlier.

ahh sweet thanks! I have to say this game has some awesome storylines to it so far!

Just got done yesterday with a few awesome ones from the city Novac (which was also a sweet name for a post apocalyptic town made in a hotel) In Boone's quest did you
Find that the hotel owner lady sold his wife into slavery while she was preggers with Boone's kid
or did you pin it on someone else?

Also, there was this quest in Novac with a cow farmer who kept getting his cattle killed somehow. Awesome!
I was walking to another mission when I see this stealth looking thing buy that farmers house. Reminded me of the Predator movies and so I walked up to it and shoot it . Then BAM this huge monster thing comes after me.
So awesome!

Awesome, always love getting chemed up and fighting deathclaws. Stronger ones the better.

No more 9 luck characters hitting 30k jackpots on slot machines? Noooooo.

Everything is looking good and most of it looks like fixes that should be there since the beginning. Better late than never though.

I figured it out so I could watch Boone pop her head.

As for the brahmin murders, that was one of the few remaining telepaths in the entire world. WAY TO JUST KILL IT OMG.

Haha nah, he was totally nuts. Nightkin are already prone to going unstable after using Stealth Boys for so long; him developing some kind of minor telepathy meant he was wacked out even by Nightkin standards. You can't really resolve that any other way.

Can someone tell me how to stop the damned game for letterboxing? I'd like to play this at 1280 x 760 but I can't get it to take up the entire screen.

Someday, I'll be reunited with her. Someday...

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Currently in the middle of Dead Money and it's getting kinda crashy. Guess I'll hold off until the patch.

I just picked this up for the PC and downloaded it through Steam. The game runs at a full 60fps for me on my rig but there's some really bad micro-stuttering going on.

My specs:

i5 2500k @4.4ghz
Nvidia GTX 580 1.5GB
8GB 1600 RAM
Windows 7 64bit

I've tried disabling D3DOverrider and vsync to make sure it wasn't anything goofy on that front. Completely removed anistropic filters and multisampling and I still get the stuttering all over the place. I tried using the dll performance fix and that didn't make much of a difference either. It seems to be much worse indoors, too. Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?

EDIT: Just tried the 4GB fix and got the same issue.:(

EDIT2: THANK GOD. I did a search in the thread and found the scripting extender and the NVSE stutter fix. Installed both and it's running SMOOOOOOOOTH. Hopefully this new patch doesn't break the fix.
