Can anyone help me out with a few questions?

Is it possible to be well regarded by every major faction, or at least so they don't shoot you on sight? I've been on bad terms with the Legion due NCR quests and frankly not finding Legion quests, so when I found Cottoncove for a quest I sniped most of them before one of them gave me the option to say I was merchant. Didn't see any quest failed missions so I'm still wondering how a Legion playthrough would go. Using disguises so far has done nothing for me.

I've literally just stepped into the strip after getting sidetracked by chasing down empty triangles and the quests at those locations. How much is left on the main path including some quests in the strip? I'm level 25 and ~35 hours into the game but I'm tempted to go for a more melee oriented build after seeing Veronica punching dudes heads off.

Speaking of just entering the strip
I met Victor again and I was given the option to ask him how he was alive. Did I miss something where I was supposed to think he died? Outside of Goodsprings, I think I met him on the way to New Vegas from Novac. He ran off, but I didn't see him get attacked.

I'm enjoying it more than enough to deal with the crashes but it just seems like there is too much even in a single playthrough to even consider multiple playthroughs and you know, play other games.

Well that was an... interesting way to fix my Honest Hearts save from loading.

I just disabled the DLC data file, and loaded the game up with no problems. And I'm still able to play the DLC, even though it's technically not enabled.

Weird stuff, but at least it fixed my problem.

I don't think it's possible to make good with all the factions while doing their quests, or at least NCR and Legion. If you commit to either, you're bound to antagonize the other and get randomly attacked and whatnot. You should do yourself some good by getting a hold of one of the enemy's outfits.

I'd say you're about half-way the main quest. Some of the main quests can be somewhat skipped, though.

He probably just got swarmed by giant radscorpions or something. It must've happened near you and you just missed it. The point is that this robot that should be dead, isn't. Mystery!

Sounds like you haven't done "Ring-a-Ding-Ding!" yet? Finishing that quest will reset your Legion rep to neutral and
they invite you to Cottonwood Cove to the Legion camp
. But yeah, Legion / NCR is really a choice you need to make by the end.

Although Legion Assassin parties are GREAT for farming caps. So wait a while to reset the rep if you want.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm if I'm halfway, I guess I'll just follow the critical path and stick with the NCR for now.

Yea haven't done Ring-Ding-Ding yet after figuring out what the empty triangles meant on the compass.
They invite me to Cottonwood Cove? That should be interesting, I apparently killed more than a few uniquely named NPCs including a centurion

Need your help GAF, where are some locations where I can rank up some XP? Any great quests I should start? Currently level 18 and doesnt feel good.

There are a bunch of places, you can hit them every 2 or 3 days as they don't automatically respawn enemies.

Far south easy corner of the map, there is beach with a few sunken houses. About 5-10 lakelurks on the west bank, another 10 or so if you swim across to the east bank. Teleport spot right in it, too which you can use to come back later.

Far south west corner of the map, not far from the outpost with the giant statues. There is a ravine filled with golden geckos. Like the lakelurks 50 XP per kill.

NW of the 188 Trading Post, about 5 minutes walk is a herd of bighorns. There is another herd over near Bonnie Springs plus if you head east of there up the hills behind the quarry/Sloan there are a bunch of fire geckos. Also Nopah Cave is near there, about 10 fire geckos inside. Again 50 XP a pop.

It's also good to piss of the Legion (or NCR) you should get regular hit teams coming after you. They'll net you 200 XP a time and at least 5000 caps worth of equipment to sell off.

There are also a bunch of Cazador and Deathclaw runs but they might be a handful for a level 18.

One last one, teleport to the Goodsprings Cemetery and from the top head off to the east, there are about 7 or 8 giant radscorpions, that'll net you a bunch of XP and isn't too hard as they are easy to snipe.

Wow
Honest hearts ended very abruptly. Like I was wandering around doing random tasks and suddenly it's the final mission

It was fun while it lasted, but it left me wanted a lot more.
Also was really random that everything is just left in a chest for your right there at the end...

Yeah that was really weird. I finished and went
"Okay that was fun, pity there's no good gear to take back. Oh what's this? A chest... full of good gear. Well that's better than nothing I guess."

It's not like they couldn't have spaced it out. There were plenty of places that they could have given me the rewards after a quest. To just dump all that stuff at the end seemed lazy.

that was done because people complained about not being able to get some of the cool gear without killing characters that they did not want to kill. NCR Vet Ranger armor for example. doesnt seem like there'd be any easy way to give the player joshuas stuff

That actually makes a lot of sense, though I think it was just as jarring as the alternative imo.

Yeah, considering they were setting it up as the iconic armor of the game, plastered all over the cover, trailer, promo material and intro, it was particularly kind of weird that you had to viciously murder a Desert Ranger to acquire their gear before they patched it into the NCR safehouse and
the factionless Honest Hearts set which I'm currently wearing
.

I had to lure one of them below a nearby cliff as I viciously pelted the poor bastard with Grenade Launcher fire.

His eyes said "why?". :(

I don't mind killing Veteran Rangers, those guys creep the hell out of me. Plus the helmet is one of the best night vision/thermal imaging enabled hats in Project Nevada.

So do we know where the entrance to Old World Blues is located? I just found out about the entrance to Lonesome Road a few days back.

The Mojave Drive-In maybe, it was shown in that Qore preview, Duckroll mentioned it, and well it certainly looks like the starting point but not necessarily the entrance.

So I was just wandering around, kickin' it near the southwestern corner of the map, when this popped up:

whotheheckisthat.jpg

"Oh no!" I said, "Not Sergeant Mc... who?"

I have got no idea who this person is, how they died, and why it popped up a box to alert me about their demise. I wasn't doing anything at the time it happened, and an admittedly cursory and half-assed search of the surrounding area turned up no corpses that I didn't make.

Should I be worried about this, or is it all just a natural and expected part of the great circle of life? Sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, sure as Mufasa gets run over by wildebeests, so too does Sergeant McGee get, I don't know, stung to death by radscorpions or shot to hell by raiders or something.

The game will inform the player if McGee dies at any point, similar to the message that appears if an NPC companion dies on Hardcore mode.

Involved in a quest, but not essential.

If you are using mods to increase world spawns chances are that the post he was at got overrun and destroyed.

Not using any mods other than the one that adds more songs to the radio. It seems our good friend McGee is plenty capable of offing himself with no external interference.

Never said it couldnt happen anyways. i just see a lot of people asking questions about why NPCs have died and usually its IWS and the other mod.. Monster something.. thats behind it.

I loaded up the save just before McGee bit it a few times, and after some frantic running around finally found him just north of where I was standing doing a stint as the guest of honor at a feral ghoul dance-a-thon/all-you-can-eat buffet.

I decided then and there that, come hell or high water, I was going to get poor, hapless Sergeant McGee to his destination alive.

He was not in the best of shape when I found him.

mcgee01.jpg

In addition to myself, Veronica and Rex were along to safely escort our charge, but just to be on the safe side I used the NCR Radio to call in a Ranger to help me get McGee to his destination safely.

"There's an NCR sergeant walking across the Mojave with nothing but a Varmint Rifle and an overinflated sense of self-importance?" said the voice on the other end of the radio. "I'll be right there."

For his part, Sergeant McGee was rather nonchalant about suddenly being escorted by an NCR Ranger, a cybernetic dog, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, and someone who resembled but was legally distinct from the NCR's elite.

mcgee02.jpg

For a lowly Sergeant, McGee seemed to attract an inordinate amount of attention from the soldiers of Caesar's Legion. Fortunately, football pads and skirts provide little protection from high-caliber firearms.

mcgee03.jpg

He also got a lot of undue hostility from the Vipers. Maybe he owed them money or something. I dunno, I don't like to pry.

Note Rex, valiantly savaging the ne'er-do-wells in the foreground. Note Veronica, standing with McGee and I on a distant hill, bravely putting up her dukes and daring the Vipers to come closer so that she can give them a jolly good powerfisting.

I should have brought Boone.

mcgee04.jpg

McGee, proving once and for all that he cares little for rank or social standing, used the aftermath of the battle to hit on the Ranger. Veronica, meanwhile, has finally switched to a ranged weapon now that all the enemies are safely dead and she needn't entertain worries about actually having to use something with a trigger.

mcgee05.jpg

Though for what it's worth, McGee is in some ways a consummate professional, as he firmly rebuffed my repeated offers to blow off the whole Camp Forlorn Hope thing and go see Dinky the Dinosaur.

I even offered to show him the spot where I helped a mentally disturbed sniper murder an elderly woman. He was having none of it.

mcgee06.jpg

Tragedy nearly struck when McGee stumbled into a cunning Legion trap. Sandbags in piles? The Romans grow more devious by the day.

Note Rex, attempting to help McGee circumnavigate the fiendish obstacle. Note Veronica, undoubtedly doing something stupid and useless off-camera.

mcgee07.jpg

At long last our destination came into view as a haze settled over the Mojave. Camp Forlorn Hope looks like a cheery place. I bet McGee will really like it there.

mcgee08.jpg

Success.

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Completed Honest Hearts last night. Pretty awesome, but I can't help but feel it could have been just a bit longer. I feel like just as soon as I was getting comfortable, I ran back into Daniel and was at the final quest. Still, quality DLC, while it lasted.
I got both endings and had trouble deciding which to continue with. I ultimately stuck with Joshua though, destroying the White Legs. I'm currently going through the game as an asshole, as I basically only ever go the asshole route, but even then, it gave me pause leaving the Horses and Sorrows in that state. It simply felt wrong.
Also, even though it's just a reskin, I think the Desert Ranger combat armor is pretty badass. I love the tour of duty markings on the helmet. Was very happy to collect that.

Anyway, I'm basically at the end of the game but will probably hold off until after Old World Blues. Or maybe I'll just wander around, visit some more locations, get some more Steam achievements. I dunno. I don't ever want this game to end though. :(

Didn't pick this up at launch because of all the technical issues it had. Was thinking about picking this up for 360, have all the bugs been patched yet?

I've been playing this game for the past few days, and I gotta say that I'm completely blown away. It's been YEARS since I've felt this way about a video game. In fact, I'd say the last time I felt so fondly of a game was in 2007 with Super Mario Galaxy. I can't believe I missed out on the Bethesda craze.

I do have a question though. I purchased both DLCs on Steam, and I was wondering, can I take part in those missions whenever I want or do I have to beat the game first?

That was a brilliant write-up ixix. It is those things which really give the game character. Glitch you say? Bug? Nay, this is merely an alternate play method!

You can play the DLCs anytime you want. They are self-contained story arcs and you merely need to go to the entry point on the world map to start them. The quest marker should point you there. It is however recommended AFAIK that you be at least level 20 for Dead Money while you can play Honest Hearts at pretty much any level.

Enjoy your stay, and definitely check out the other Beth-brand games if you haven't.

They could have given it to you after you decided not to go with him, and vice-versa for Joshua. Then just hand you the stuff later after you beat the story so it's not just a treasure chest of goodies. The two companions could have given you their stuff when they left.

It used to be a player trait, but in Fallout even the npcs have developed emergent gameplay. Skynet wishes it were this good

That is true but I mean under the time limitations and what not, I imagine it was one of the more trivial things for them to spend time on. And who says they didn't leave it for the player besides? I don't really remember but wasn't it in a chest?

I got grudge sucked!
So being the console peasant I am, I had no way to reset the Oh My Papa quest. See I don't want to kill any of these factions if I can help it. Thats why the Mr House route was out because
I didn't want to kill the BOS, it just doesn't feel right, where I can have a truce with them going the NCR route

So I reverted to an earlier save where I hadn't encountered the GKs yet (but I still had the Sloan Deathclaw mission completed thank you JESUS) I decide to do some other exploring first, including the West Side of NV.
So I go to Thorn, the underground fighting arena, and meet Red Lucy, that wierd sorta creepy chick. She wants me to gather eggs from the various monsters round the NV area (made much easier since the Deathclaws in the Quarry are DEAD, EASY). Once I did that, I start asking the rest of the dialogue options to see if there are any other quests. I was given the option to flirt with her, something about being intimate, assuming it would be like every other flirting option that goes nowhere, like the girl at the Vault 21 hotel. Only Red Lucy likes her eggs fertilized for serious. Now she's my fuck buddy whenever I need. That was an interesting tangeant.

My quest line with her must be broken, because I have no active quest for her and I've tried to bring her vault suits for sale and nothing happens. I know she has a thing for leather, do they have to be leather vault suits or any old vault suits?

I don't think that'll ever happen. For people like me, though, it's completely playable, even with 40+ mods installed.
