I'm really considering playing this again with a new character. Just wondering, how many different ways can I finish the main quest?
The first time I played, I helped Mr. House. I'm assuming the NCR and Legion are 2 other factions that I can join. Are there any others?

Yes, you can take New Vegas for yourself with the help of Yes Man.

Oh, really?
I thought of him as a minor character. Now I'm going to make an evil character and take over New Vegas. Muahahahah!

Well, maybe later, I think I'm going to side with the NCR for my next playthrough.

Protip: When playing the NCR campaign, make sure to do the quest "Return to Sender." You'll absolutely relish it.

Holy crap! I never thought I would be addicted to this game but I am. The exploration is fantastic and the environments are huge. I traded in FO3 after getting frustrated early in the game, but I like this game and I would consider getting FO3:GOTY edition.
I got Cass and the robot, and I'm exploring, I'm still at "He Went That Way, you're supposed to go to Boulder City, I've explored Vault 24 I think among other things.I'm in good terms with the NCR, Powder Gangers and Caesar's Legion hate me.
I've completely ignored the story quest in favor of exploring, level grinding, and picking locks/hacking into computers.

The game's frozen on me several times particularly at the Crimson Caravan whenever I bought a ton of stuff off the salesmen, and it froze on me right before I turned it off as I was fighting a bunch of crazed Raiders. I seriously hope they keep adressing these issues with updates because it's embarassing as well as clipping issues. And let me not forget about the agressive ally A.I. I'm still enjoying the game regardless of the fact, but the freezing issue is annoying.

If you enjoy Fallout New Vegas, then you probably would enjoy FO3:GOTY. I say "probably" because I know a few people who have had widely different experiences with the two games - I've loved them both. Now, in my opinion the DC Wasteland is not as interesting as the Mojave, but there is still plenty to see and do outside the main quest. Also, Broken Steel and Point Lookout are amazing DLC's for FO3.

Try loading it through the "load" menu; the "continue" tends to do that to me. Or load a previous save, and then load the latest.

I think someone mentioned if you load a different save, then quit out to the main menu and try to load your messed up save it would work.

Thanks but that doesn't work, I have to start a new game each time and then load my save. :/

Edit : Created a new save file and that seems to work.

Think I'm gonna create a Gunslinger-type character to complement my Energy Weapons- and my rifles-builds. Either that, or start up Fallout 3 again to relive it.

OWB is the best DLC ever and I'm not even done yet. It's almost a complete game by itself. So much to do and I like the personality and looks of everything. Especially that toaster.

Just had a really bizarre bug. The game rebooted me to the XMB. Never had that one before.

Don't think I've been in there, but I just did vault 22 the other day (the one with the plant-zombies). It was awesome!

The enemies in Vault 11 are lackluster but the story of the vault is great.

That happened to me in Dead Money

Alright! Just beat it at the 50 hour mark. Biggest mistake: using a guide when I was stuck. I feel disappointed in myself :( Oh well.

I gotta say: that was the longest credit sequence I've ever seen.

EDIT: Not really a spoiler, but:

Did anyone notice the scripture listed during the credits? Jer. 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Some of the quests are so broken you don't know if it's you doing it wrong or the game doing it wrong. I had the Fallout wiki on stand-by during my first run.

Unfortunately, this is the way this game is played.

Man, this game is so fun. I'm so out of touch with Fallout, though. I don't know what it is, but I still don't feel like I'm back into the swing of things (currently level 7 in Novac). I keep getting quests that seem to difficult for me at my level.

But it's still a blast. Just got my first companion as well.

I've been really getting into this game during my second playthrough.

So there will be 5 DLCs for this right? Will there be a cheaper way to buy these instead of giving $50 for DLCs? They sound like fun, but $50 is like a whole new game...

^I`m pretty sure Lonesome Road is done. JES said he's played through it already. It's just that the release dates are decided by Msoft Sony and Bethesda. Sometime next month (2 months maybe) doesn't sound too ridiculous. OWB got delayed but they were supposed to be one per month.

There will more than likely be a GOTY edition with all the DLC included.

There are 4 DLCs. The 3 that are out now, and Lonesome Road coming. AFAIK, no others have been planned.

For what it's worth though, the DLCs really pack a punch. Easily a steal when they are on sale. I think OWB is easily worth 10 dollars considering some of the things that pass for 60 in gaming.

I just hit my 90 hour mark after completion of the SM casino dlc. I have the second dlc and I'm about to download the third. Safe to say that I'm in love with this game.

At what point do I become locked into a faction's ending?
I just left the Tops after meeting Benny and now have the options to recruit the Boomers for the NCR, go visit Caesar, and help Mr House or Yes Man. Problem is that I'm not entirely sure what I want to do.
Can I do a few quests for each group before deciding how I want to end the game, or is this the point where I decide the ending?

The game alerts you (giving you a new "quest") before you make the final choice; during my first playthrough, at least, it said the NCR wouldn't accept me should I choose to help House again.

I'm finally going to be able to play this game soon. But I have a few questions before I do:

- Does New Vegas have memorable moments like Fallout 3 had?
The nuke at the beginning of the game; the scene where you go into a virtual environment and you have to kill everybody while wearing a clown mask; ...
- Is it really that buggy or has it been fixed with patches yet?
- Will I enjoy this if I enjoyed Fallout 3?

IMO, there's nothing quite up there in memorability like the
VR Vault
in F3, although the main quest is much more varied and larger in scope. There are not only many more side quests in New Vegas, but there are also a lot more memorable ones.

The game isn't perfect, but it's hugely improved from how it was at launch. I've had no major bugs or glitches recently. If you enjoyed Fallout 3, it's fairly safe to say you'll enjoy this, although some people haven't, and some people that disliked F3 found New Vegas more enjoyable.

Any mods that add new buildings and creepy locations to find? I loved Fallout 3 because it was more about exploring and finding things but was disappointed that Vegas didn't really have this.

Yes, you will enjoy it.

I found it way buggier than Fallout 3 but patches seem to have helped, I would definitely recommend to play New Vegas.

Devil's Throat was my favourite stumble-upon location. Serious nightmare stuff. I didn't have any of that with Fallout 3 until the expansions.

A World of Pain is what you're looking for. Adds 90 new locations and also complex underground passage with new quests. Plus new enemies, weapons, and armor.

Dead money ending stuff:
So there was a way to trick Elijah? What happens? And how do you get all of the gold bars from that? I killed him because I went outside the vault and he turned on the turrets. That sucked.

You can trick Elijah by convincing him to come down, any way you want. What you do after that is that instead of waiting for him to come, and then killing him, you disable all the turrets and stuff and get the fuck out the same way you came, using stealth, without fighting him at all. That way, once you take the elevator up (which he took down) he has no way of going back up. Once he reads the message left for him on the computer (which you should NOT read), it will lock him in the Vault for good.

This has nothing to do with stealing all the gold bars. To take gold bars out, the official intended way is for you to drop as much loot as possible and carry just a few out.

Hmm. Ok, that makes sense, must have read that wrong when someone said that about the gold bars earlier in the thread. Thanks though, I carried out 8 and didn't drop anything. Lol. Got all of my stuff back and walked,Over encumbered, from the Dead Money sewer to the Lucky 38. Got Veronica on the way too. It was nice for once taking in the scenery walking, took a while though lol.

I believe there's a way to sort of glitch Elijah as he's coming, so you can blast the bars through the barrier, and then pick them up as you go around or something. It's a glitch though, and not something you're meant to do. I've see a video of it somewhere once.

I looked at this on nexus but it appears to only be 3MB DL.
That can't be right, can it?

Most of the new locations and equipment use NV resources. It doesn't add anything 'new' as in made from scratch new, which keeps the file size very low.

I think I'm one of those people who like NV more than F3. I enjoyed F3, but for some reason I prefer the west coast setting over the capital wasteland. Much more interesting for me.

Game seems pretty damn stable these days as well. Obviously I could just be lucky, but I've had no issues or glitches thus far on 360.

So I decided to check the Metacritic history for New Vegas:

Fallout: New Vegas (PC): 84
- 35 positive reviews
- 4 mixed reviews
- 0 negative reviews

Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money (PC): 70
- 4 positive reviews
- 7 mixed reviews
- 0 negative reviews

Fallout: New Vegas - Honest Hearts (PC): 66
- 3 positive reviews
- 7 mixed reviews
- 2 negative reviews

Fallout: New Vegas - Old World Blues (PC): 82
- 7 positive reviews
- 1 mixed review
- 0 negative reviews

OWB is definitely the DLC getting the best word of mouth so far, and the scores reflect that. It's going to be interesting to see if Avellone can top it with Lonesome Road.

Surprised Honest Hearts is lower. I always hear that Dead Money was terrible.

Do any of the DLC's scale to your level or anything like that? Would be nice to play one in the middle of my playthrough rather than all of it only at the end.

I don't think so, but in terms of difficulty, Honest Hearts is the easiest and Old World Blues is the hardest (although Dead Money can be pretty challenging as well). Honest Hearts also seemingly isn't as tied to the Courier's story as the other two DLCs (it had a different writer), so if you decide to do one in the middle of your journey, I'd go with Honest Hearts.

duckroll

Member
DLCs scale up, but I don't think they particularly scale down. Honest Hearts is much easier if you play it when you're like lvl7-10, rather than if you go in with a lvl35 character. The scaling doesn't affect the stats of the enemies, but it does affect what types of enemies you can possibly face, along with some of their gear.

Dead Money and Old World Blues are both pretty hard regardless of your level, but are definitely meant for higher level characters simply because of skill checks. I wouldn't recommend doing either of them unless you're at least lvl15-20.

I'll never understand why Honest Hearts is rated so low. Yeah, it may be a little on the short side but so what? It's fun to explore, the environment makes for more combat variety, nice loot, good dialogue / story and Zion is awesome.

It think it's honestly because:

a) Dead Money set up certain expectations for the DLCs in terms of companions and storyline. Maybe the idea that each DLC is a completely different style and tone was not properly communicated, so reviewers and fans might have expected something different. Dead Money was also pretty long, so they also set up expectations that each DLC would probably be as long as that.

b) There was a lot of hype about New Canaan and the Burned Man, and Honest Hearts was delayed for a very long time. The gap between Dead Money and Honest Hearts created a lot of speculation and expectations about what was in the DLC and how awesome Graham was going to be, and how awesome New Canaan was going to be. In the end there was no New Canaan, and Graham didn't have a very large active role in the DLC. This probably disappointed a lot of people.

tl;dr - Expectations are a bitch.
