Rad Child is an awesome perk, especially since you don't lose any HP from the endurance penalty.

Where is the Khan Armorer? I haven't found her in my two playthroughs.
She's in the basement of the destroyed house at the entrance to Red Rock Canyon. You'll need to be accepted by the Great Khans before she'll talk to you though.

Rad Child is the main reason I love Survival for Unarmed builds. You can just charge in and start uppercut-ing heads off without worrying about your HP.

I have this on my shotgunner too, partially since I don't want to wear anything above light armor.

Are there any dependable ammo vendors outside of the Strip? I'm not totally depleted thanks to looting, but I feel like every vendor I check never restocks. Or at least never restocks .44 and .308 ammo.
Sergeant Contreras at Camp McCarran has a shit-ton of .308 ammo in stock. I bought out his entire inventory twice, and now have 4000 .308 rounds, and another 2000 of AP and HP each. :lol

I also decided to ditch my current character's shotgun in favor of a Ballistic Fist I looted off of Caesar's Praetorians. Works a lot better, especially now that I'm improving my Unarmed skill every time I level up.

Playing through Honest Hearts again with a new character because I didn't like the first build I took to Old World Blues so I made another. Just got randomly set upon by a Cazador and did my usual cripple the wing then work the face trick to take him down.

Then I remembered that in Old World Blues
you find out the where they came from and get perks and implants to make them easier to kill. I wonder if that was always intended, or if they just got sick of people complaining about Cazadores?

I know the song is from Fallout 3, but this cover of the "Bingo Bango Bongo" song from the radio really put me in a Fallout mood:

That's been my ringtone for a couple of years.

(The original, not that cover)

I'm 35hrs+ into my second play through and I just realised (very minor spoilers)
here is a Gun runner shop and a crazy kid called the forecaster under the bridge at the 188 trading post!

There's an amazing amount of content in the game.

Are there any interesting mods/add ons that expand the world in New Vegas?

I know there are new radio stations people have made and perhaps different items people can use. However has anyone or any groups gone so far as to add new towns, characters, enemies, etc to the game?

Now that all the DLC is out. Are they all worth it (price wise) or if you had to limit a purchase to just one which one should one get?

Thanks

So I made a second character and put more points into luck and agility....God it's awesome

I'm running to Nipton and two Powder gangers attack me, they're both running toward me shooting one is behind the other to (his) right. So I am for the guy in front of me I am at his head but I miss (too far to his left). But the guy behind him just drops, then the trucks behind both of them bursts into flames.....then it just explodes.

God damn it was awesome.

If you want new places to explore get the DLC. I've only played Honest Hearts, but I thought it was great and it was long. And the other two were very well received as well. It's good to take a break from the Mojave Wasteland.

The Wasteland is huge though, and you'll still be discovering things on a second and third playthrough. I don't see much reason for fan added towns or characters, not yet anyway with one more DLC coming out.

I'm starting Dead Money for the first time and i'm loving the mood. As always in New Vegas, they tell you to scavenge because resources are scarce, and not five minutes later you're packing shotguns and laser rifles with bullets in the hundreds, even with Project Nevada on. But so far, i like what Obs' done with the DLC. Too bad i'm so OP by now.

Oh and by the way, i'm trying to get that Desert Survivalist challenge/achievement in hardcore mode but i can't seem to get any food to heal me. The "healed by food" bar is stuck at 15/10000 and i have no idea how i got those 15 points in the first place. Any ideas?

New Vegas Bounties is pretty faithful to the lore and i think is probably the best quest mod out there. The only other one i've tried is Dog City Denver, which somewhat restored the Denver as envisioned in Van Buren, but while worth playing, it's not nearly as good.

I'm about to finish up my first play through. I've gotten to the quest where you need to take a barge in order to retrieve the platinum chip from the fort. When I get to the barge though Boone gives me no turning back warning so I assume I have to tie up loose ends before I continue. My questions are how much longer is the game assuming I take the barge? Where can I get a hunting rifle scope? I found one but stupidly lost it going in and out of casinos. And where can I find the Brotherhood of Steel?

Eh, why not? Aren't the DLC's all in separate world spaces anyway? More content = more awesome.

Question, if I have 10 Luck, does the Finesse perk still add an additional 5 or is it worthless?

The barge isn't a PONR (point of no return.) It gives you that warning because you can't fast travel from the other side at Caesar's place until you finish the quest with him.

You'll still get the additional 5. Finesse doesn't really have anything to do with the luck stat, it's just mentioned because each point in luck gives +1% crit. chance

WHAT. I had no idea she existed and I spent 300 hours on this game :|

Two other questions: If I lost a weapon from going in and out of casinos can I get it back? Also, can I break down a hunting rifle to remove the scope and put on another compatible rifle?

Well there is so much content in the base game already. It'll be a long time before you explore every nook and cranny. No need to muck it up with fan created characters or towns, which I can't see being integrated into the map all that well. I'm all for total conversions or separate maps for games in general, but I usually detest mods. I want to play the game as the artists intended faults and all.

So, who here felt disappointed with Honest Hearts? I absolutely love it. The setting is so refreshing. I'm in awe of the amount of lore they keep pouring into the series. Amazing DLC.

That would be a glitch so I don't think so and no.

So I tried going to The Fort by meeting the Caesar's Legion rep, but every time I did, I always got attacked. Not to mention that I slaughtered all the Caesar's Legion in that area. So I grabbed the leader's amor and helmet, and put in on, then managed to get through. However once I got to The Fort and went into
Caesar's tent
with the disguise, all hell broke loose and they attacked me causing me to fail Render Unto Caesar and the related side quests. Help!

I loaded up an earlier save, did some questing and found out that I left one of Caesar's liutenants alive inside a house in Nelson which triggered the "We Are Legion" sidequest. I'm on extremely good terms with the NCR. Should I slaughter the town in order to be on decent terms with the Legion? Or I should I just kill the liutenant and his cohorts and fail the Caesar's Legion quests?

At this point I more or less have story related quests to do with a few sidequests such as collecting the Star bottlecaps and I have all the ally NPCs.
Veronica's all right I guess, but I prefer Arcade, Boon, and Cass over the rest of them. It would have been nice if there were a Caesar's Legion ally NPC because all the allies more or less hate Caesar's Legion (I do too though)

One more thing: How do you play Caravan? I seriously suck at it and play it mindlessly, losing every time I play it. I've been buying cards left and right.

There will be a story-related time where you can get something that will get all your past actions against the Legion ignored

So today I finally able to play Honest Hearts and Old World Blues. I finished HH which I just thought was ok. The setting was nice and I liked meeting Graham but it was rather on the short side in terms of exploring and quests, and the whole tribal thing is not interesting to me (reminds me of how bored I got during native american parts of my history classes, they just bore me, can't explain really).

I just started OWB and I'm already greatly enjoying it. I'm talking to the robots and there's a ton of pretty interesting and funny dialgoue, and I'm pretty sure Dr Klein is Captain Qwark. Who wrote this dlc? It feels like Avellone's style. Needless to say I'm looking forward to playing it more.

I'm pretty sure MCA is behind most of the writing in all DLC.

Is it the Mark of Caesar that the representative gives on The Strip? Because I have it but they still hate me because I've slaughtered most of them. So the guy on the Cove will attack me on sight if I'm not disguised causing me fail the quests.

Yup, that's the one. If they still hate you, you've likely put yourself in a dead end by just slaughtering Legion left and right. Can't say i'd blame them :p

And Legion Mongrels and high ranking officers (such as Caesar) can see through your disguise. That's why you're getting attacked. Oh and don't have Boone in your party if you want to deal with the Legion (and definitely don't bring him with you to The Fort).

Yup. That's exactly what happens. I won't bring Boon into that place. Hell, even Arcade doesn't like the Legion. I may as well do We Are Legion and
slaughter Camp Hope then, because the NCR will easily overlook it since the love me. But I love the NCR though so I don't know I'm going it be able to bring myself to do it. House told me to sneak into The Fort and steal the Platinum Chip from Caesar or slaughter him and the crew.

I think the advised level is 15, so I imagine you'll be ok if you have a decent combat build, or a lot of stimpacks.

You're better off starting a new game to do the Legion quests. New Vegas makes it very difficult (or flat out impossible, in some cases) to do everything in one playthrough. It's probably better to do just a bunch of short very focused playthroughs than trying to do everything on one run (though i can't bring myself to not do everything i can).

edit: i just found a mod that adds a map marker for the Khan's armory: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43459

I survived at 12. It's tough though, DT on regular enemies is still pretty high. If you weren't planning on an energy weapons build this DLC may change your mind. I pretty much needed the LAER to survive most of it.

Strangely enough Dead money felt the opposite to me, totally rewarding guns builds over energy.

Yeah, I have 100 points in energy weapons and like 30 in guns and it's tough going in dead money. The laser gun you get at the start is nice, but there's hardly any ammo for it.

Hmm. I think I'm running into a bug or something. I'm at the end of of the Ring-A-Ding-Ding quest.

I go up to the suite to talk to Benny, and agree to forgive him since I don't really want to go along with his plan, but I don't want to kill him either, yet he still sends the bodyguards up to kill me.

I looked it up on the Fallout wki and apparently there are speech checks you can pass to assure Benny that you'll stay out of his way. My speech is at 100 so those wouldn't be a problem, but nothing like that is even showing up. Just Benny thanking me, calling me 18 karat or whatever, and then he runs out of the room as his armed guards show up to ambush me. What am I doing wrong?

Also, do yourself a favor and find a Proton Axe. It does wonders to otherwise super-annoying enemies.

On my second playthrough now, not as many bugs as the first time thank god. I'm currently at level 6 with 50 points toward Energy Weapons because I sort of want to be a Laser Rifle guy early on. Are there any epic Lazer Rifles in NV like 3 had, I didn't do too much research? Anyway, awesome game I still wish it didn't lag spike on me with my beast setup still, but I'll live I guess.

I think it's far more entertaining to play with laser rifles in NV. Both because of weapons and energy weapon specific perks.

So is Veronica supposed to be absolutely worthless? I thought I'd heard good things about her, so I recruited her, but everytime there's a fight she just cowers behind me until it's over. She's punched like three enemies so far.

Is he accompanying you to the room? It looks like the peaceful solution is to ignore the speech check on the casino floor, but instead pass a couple of speech checks when he talks to you over the intercom.

Any way to get back into a locked out terminal? I accidentally fucked up looking for a dud and it's for one of the
Camp Mccarren quests.
and I need it to complete it.

Using PC. I figure there's some way to cheat it to get back in, no?

I almost always take Meltdown even though I play hardcore and kill my melee companions with it constantly. Totally worth it. Getting jumped by a gang of Legion chumps and exploding them all with a well placed shot and the ensuing chain reaction never gets old.

Ah, yeah. I've been using speech to convince him to drop the bodyguards and come with me right away. I'll reload and try that. Thanks!

I couldn't even imagine how my experience of Fallout NV would be if I didn't have 100 speech for most of it.

Then again, at level 35, my character is pretty much omnipotent even on hard/hardcore.

I like it that way though, I can still die if I don't manage my health or pick weapons wisely. But I can unlock, hack, heal, talk and pretty much shoot anything with ease.

Just need to finish Old World Blues, then it's on to the Strip to finally progress in the story that I've yet to complete.

Strange. When I had Veronica she was basically in beast mode all the time. She'd charge straight ahead and just falco punch any fool. Devastating attacks. Either your Charisma is low or maybe you changed something in her Companion Wheel?

Close to the end game spoilers?

So I finished
the quest to protect the president and upload the bypass for the yes man and now he's telling me to go to the Hover Dam. Am I almost done the main story? A simple yes or no will suffice. And if so, seems a little short. At about hour 22.

Yes. That's just the main arc though. I was well over 100hrs when I got there iirc.

I've had this too, namely when I'm fighting enemies at range. Like she can't decide whether to use a gun or rush straight in, so does neither.

Yeah I remember Veronica doing a lot of crouching and twitching in outdoor fights, but she's usually okay indoors and on fairly level terrain. The game does have pretty terrible pathfinding.

I started playing this months ago but I put it aside at the time cause I had other games I wanted to play. Anyway, I had taken my initial character through ~25% of the game and did a fair amount of quests, but I didn't like the previous build so I just restarted with a fresh courier. I've got a couple of questions, but I'm trying to steer clear of spoilers, so I haven't read much of this thread. I don't want to risk using a faq or wiki for obvious reasons.

I'm interested in taking down all of the factions and electing myself king of NV. Is this possible? If it is do I have to take out all the casino bosses as well? If someone would be kind enough to give me a vague assurance that I can clean house and end the game with all of my enemies dead and my friends rewarded I'd appreciate it. If that scenario isn't in the cards then just let me know so I don't waste any playtime going for it. TIA
