Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

I didn't like Dead Money.

The environment started to grate on me towards the end and I found the characters involved to be pretty lifeless (except for maybe Elijah). I kept getting lost, and every environment basically looks the same. There were points when I was walking around in seemingly circles, only for me to make a turn and end up where I needed to be.

It was fun in the beginning when you were alone, looking any sort of supplies you could find and hunting things that needed to be beheaded like zombies.
But then you hit the casino and those stupid radios just bring the pace to a grinding halt.

I also forgot the Snow Globe and have no way of going back without a mod, which is kind of a bad way to get back. Considering every other DLC lets you go back... they really need to consider patching in a way to head back.

Haha, yeah I love the soundtrack.

I've taken a shine to this song over the last week of playing. Gotta love wandering around while listening to this.

Any must have mods that don't change the gameplay too drastically?

I'm looking through New Vegas Nexus and there is so many major mods but I don't know if I should install them.

I've beaten the game once and am gonna do a second play through on all the DLC's.

After approximately 37 hours, I've finally finished the game. I plan on finishing it a few more time to see the different endings. Amazing game and I'm glad it was the first western rpg I've played. Fallout 3 is next.

Seriously, my first was 76 hours. I have no clue how these sub-50 guys are doing it. Do they like not have an impulse to go south when the main quest tells them to go north.

I don't have any of the DLC. My characters level was probably in high 20s. I didn't do every single mission in the game but I did all the ones I could find and ones I was able to complete with the skill levels I had. I believe I explored all of the Mojave Wasteland except for small parts of it.

That happened to me with games like Vice City. I had a very negative approach to the music I grew up with, thinking of all the bad things that happened between 1980 and 1989 and the events that I associated with certain songs.

Then I played Vice City and I don't know, being able to get my head into that world and relax and drive around (in Fallout it's walking around) and listening to the music made me fall madly in love with it.

Same goes for Fallout 3 and Mafia 2's soundtrack. Love that old music now.

I feel the same about GTA games. I really appreciate the music more and I'm glad the devs put them in the game.

I'm at about 50 hours and I just finished up the wild card quests for Yes Man. My brother beat the entire game in 40 hours while claiming he does a ton of the quests. I tell him he's "all business" when we play games, so this is probably why. You can't play an MMO with the guy because he gets pissed any time things aren't moving forward rapidly.

Me, on the other hand, I sneak around and read every computer and try quest lines out multiple ways, so I do things so much slower.

That's the only way to play, friend. When I do the main quest, the only thing I can I think is "Look at all that space that they aren't sending me through"

They probably didn't visit every location, drained out every conversation, read/listened every holotape or just stood in awe of the majestic game they were playing :p

I clocked 186 hours in my second playthrough and haven't even finished OWB. I don't know how it happened, or if Steam's messed my times, but that's just a ton of hours.

Because he is the guy that gives the quest?

Same here, i loved all of Dead Money, even if it was a little annoying, and being stripped of your inventory and left only with your skills and whatever you scavenge was very thrilling. I tried to play the other DLCs that way, and it kinda works, but the atmosphere is not the same.

Ever managed to hit any of the Ghost People with one of their throwing spears? I can't never seem to get the timing right. Maybe 7 ST is not enough.
I've done it. It's difficult if they've spotted you, but if you're hidden in Sneak mode, they're easy pickings.

I finished my first playthrough in like 25 hours or so, I pretty much just did the story stuff and the occasional side mission with no exploring, also fast traveled most of the place. Taking things slower on this playthrough and I'll probably explore much more.

You can do Honest Hearts at lvl2 if you wanted. It's totally doable. Dead Money might be... a bit harder. It really depends on your build.
Yea I went into Dead Money and the first convo had like 5 skill checks and I couldn't pass any. Reloaded and went and did Honest Hearts and it was pretty fun. Trying to play a Good character and I pretty much chose the most Evil ending.

I have 70+ hours and i havent done any of the main story missions.

Side question: There's no point in assigning points to the charisma atribute as long as i keep leveling the barter and conversation habilities. Is this correct? So i could spend does atribute points in other more important categories (Inteligence, perception, luck, etc)

How low can you go with carisma withouth causing many problems?

Charisma is pretty much considered the dump stat, i.e you put it down to 1, reallocate the points and forget about it.

There is a few Charisma skill checks in the game and charisma gives your companions a nice bonus. I personally don't put all that many points in charisma but there's an argument to be made for doing that.

Does anyone else find the aiming in the 360 version of this (and Fallout 3) to be much harder than the PC version? I beat New Vegas on PC only using VATS when needed, but in Fallout 3 I can hardly hit anyone without it. Please say I'm not the only one!

I remember being mostly shit at aiming in FO 3, but NV feels fine to me thanks to iron sights.

It's definitely harder to aim on a controller than on MK/B, but I don't know any first-person perspective game where that isn't true.

So I've started a new game on the PS3 version after finishing the 360 one last year. I would love to try some of the DLC, I'm just not sure which one. All of them? Which one has the best loot? My current equipment is crap.

Best guns are probably in Old World Blues, and you get some decent light and medium armors in Dead Money and Honest Hearts (in HH there's a very cool non-faction Ranger armor).

I suggest you get them all, though. They're all pretty unique and they have an underlining storyline that's a joy to follow and i can't way to see how it ends. Dead Money strips you of all your equipment for its duration, so if you think your equipment is crap, maybe you'll do fine there, depending on your unarmed/melee/survival/sneak skills.

I think the best loot is in Old World Blues. You get some great energy weapons and a stealth armor suit that is pretty boss.

Hmmm, sorry for the technical question, but I am suffering from horrible micro-stuttering. I'm on the 275.33 drivers and can run the game easily at 60fps. (single GPU)

Has this not been addressed in a patch? Is it a problem on my end or does anyone else get this?

Hit some sort of road block with this one. Every time i start a dialog with her she gets really pissed and walks away giving me a mission failied for "Heartache by the Number
". Im guessing im not passing a karma check.
So what can i do to complete this mission?

Might be your PC, i have some stuttering but it's nothing truly terrible and my PC's not so bad. Try this, might help: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43784.

Yeah, she doesn't like people with bad karma, low rep with NCR or drug addicts (very hypocritical of her, but, she's a drunk, so you can't expect her to be very coherent :p).

If you want to do her quest but still keep being a psycho anti-NCR junkie, you can either ditch her in the NCR Outpost, (small obvious other base spoiler)
your Lucky 38 Suite
or just tell her to wait far away from where you're planning to do your nasty deeds. Same with Boone, Arcade, etc. Tell them to wait in Novac or whatever, murder some children, come back, they won't mind.

If i speak to her she walks away. I think im not passing a karma check because i first went to the Dr. to get rid of any addictions. So i won't be able to complete the quest then? Since i need to improve karma.

Btw, i killed the Van Grafts before Cass giving me the Caravan quest. Does it matter?

I dunno, they are related to her quest, but killing them shouldn't make you fail it. You probably just have very low karma (as in being an evil character). If you want to ditch her without even talking to her, you can go to the Gun Runner's store (the one next to McCarran Airport) and use the machine there (right next to the Vendotron) that'll teleport her out of your party and into the NCR Outpost. That machine's somewhat of a failsafe the devs added in the last patch to help with problems like these. Not pretty, but works. Weird that you can't just tell her to wait or part ways using the companion wheel, though...

Found this, includes the fps clamp feature, among other really easy to use features.

Fixed my stuttering, so may should fix yours too.
Tried it some while ago, and i forgot why i'm not using it anymore. Might give it another shot one of these days. Glad to know you got your stuttering fixed. Nobody should miss out on this game :)

Thanks for being so active with the answers.

Is there a way to get a quick karma boost? I'm being doing things the right way, against my will btw, just to please her and complete the quest but its not working.

I know about the station you talk about, if i use it will she be available to join me again if i manage to improve my karma?

Also i was wondering how stealth works in this game. If i use a melee weapon to kill a character and nobody is around, i should be able to get away with the kill withouth pissing off the faction. Is this correct? More over, i can't fool a beligerant faction even if i dress like them. So what's the point of the dress system?

You can always try cheating: bring up the console, type player.rewardkarma <value> and you should be set. It'll block Steam achievements for that session, so do that, quit the game, and restart it, if you care about those. Other than that, all kinds of raiders, feral ghouls, give positive karma when killed. You can farm Fiends in Vault 3 and ghouls just north of the NCR Outpost. But there's no beggars like in FO3, so you're kinda stuck.

Refreshment.01 said:

She has still "joined" you, she's just not in your party. It's the same as talking to her anywhere else.

New Vegas pretty much sucks, companion wise, for evil or Legion characters. You're might better off trying her quest with another character instead of derailing this playthrough.

Some named characters and guard dogs can see through your disguise, but it works with most common soldiers. Don't expect being able to do all Legion and NCR quests just because you've got a disguise. And i think sneak kills still count towards faction reputation.

Well in that regard, i managed to complete the mission "we are legion" by stealth killing all the comanding officers in camp forlon hope, didn't get any pop ups about faction reputation, my relationship with NCR seems fine.

Another similar example was in one of the casinos. Because there were lots of locked doors with guards watching, i had to wait being alone with 1 at a time, took care of them with a melee weapon. I wasn't having any trouble walking pass the other guards. However, the game does have alert triggers even if no one is watching, for example in the case of some doors.

Yep, stealth kills with melee weapons won't harm your reputation. Unarmed weapons and silenced guns will also work.

So can someone help me decide what to do on my "Help Legion" playthru.

I hope I don't need spoiler tags.

I'm at the point where I have the platinum chip and Ceasar asked me to blow up the bunker.

Now I want to:
kill Mr. House
Serve Ceasar
Rule New Vegas myself and kill everyone else off in the end
Can I do that?

Been going back and forth about buying the game, somehow it has not quite appeal to me (Even though I was a big fan of Fallout 3..). But with the mrs out of the house last week I got bored and gave it a bite, and man, the game is much better than expected, and it is massive, 85 hours and still going..

Anyway, I'm playing the 360 DL marketplace version, and it crashes/freezes on me every few hours.. Is this normal..?

^The game is buggy as hell and many people report constant crashes. Some people are lucky enough to have a relatively bug-less experience but it's no surprise if the game crashes a lot for you. There are some things you can probably do on the 360 I think like clearing the hard drive cache is supposed to help with crashes IIRC, it's been discussed in this thread somewhere. I`m not too familiar with that version but I`m sure there are some more things out there that could help.

@Zyzyxxz

You should probably tag it anyways.

If you want to do all of those things you have to understand that you'd end up committing to the last one for the end story. You can obviously do the first, but you can only do the 2nd up until a point where you have to branch off and do the third. The game warns you when you reach the part before the point of no return.
