For the Boomers, Khans and Brotherhood, can you basically complete their quests and get them on your side before making your choice for the end game? Or do those play out different depending on who you side with?

To a certain degree. I did all the tasks for the
Boomers and the Brotherhood, and I still had all the options for the main storyline open. Only did a few for the Khans cause they're teamed up with the Legion, and I was already "vilified" by their group for blowing them away at Boulder City :lol

There's probably some scaling in the game although I haven't tested. It's nowhere near TES4 (and neither is Fallout 3).

I did, however, run into a blind deathclaw at level 3. Eviscerated me. Reloaded, went AROUND the death canyon!

In fact, Gerstmann even advised: "If you're the type of person who likes to watch for a patch or two before settling into a game, know this now: you probably don't want to play Fallout: New Vegas right away."

But Bethesda says it hopes not to make those watchers wait too long: "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms," says the company in a statement to Gamasutra. "Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming."

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/31086/Fallout_New_Vegas_Patch_Plans_On_The_Way.php

I think I will wait, I am re-playing through some of the sections of FO3 and enjoying it.

What puzzles me is that these bugs certainly showed up in testing and beta, why not delay or work 24/7 to fix these issues and get better reviews and forum feedback? Seems like it would pay off in increased initial sales.

his little Antler imaginary friend thingy convinced him that I was a truthful human and I told him where the stealthboys were shipped to. Come to think of it, maybe it was because I had that information? Did you use the computer in the catwalk near Harland? There's an email 'thread' documenting that the stealthboys get sent somewhere else.
or maybe his reaction has something to do with karma?

It's either a glitch or you're not allowed to
kill any of the nightkin in the basement. There is another spare key inside one of the rooms near the jail that you could try.

Man, I've gotten into some places through careful ledge-hopping that I'm pretty sure I'm underlevelled for, such as the
Black Mountain Super Mutant lair.
On the plus side, I'm now spotting much better melee weapons than I had previously. :D

Edit: Hmm, any news of what specifically the patch is addressing in the 360 version?

Is there NPCs in the game that will increase your skill points? Like the master trainers in Oblivion. I thought I read that somewhere but can't seem to find it now.

Yeah, you'll find someone when you get close to the Strip.

Hah, fair enough. :lol
Really looking to avoid playing the same things over and over again... although, I may need to do that to get those 10k damage achievements.

I wonder, does
Veronica have any flavour dialog if you bring her to Hidden Valley? Or did you bother?

Do I need to visit the Legion HQ to advance with the main quest? It's not marked on my map at all for any quest outside of the quest that is specific to me going to their HQ to become acquainted with them.

Yeah, I ran into a master super mutant right outside goodsprings and got my butt handed to me.

Hmm... either the game glitched on you, or you picked the wrong option. I killed a couple of nightkins because they would attack relentlessly while searching for that ghoul's girlfriend, but once I told him that the stealthboys were shipped back, he peacefully went on his way.

Weird. I
only killed the Nightkins that attacked me and did check the computer fully and got all the necessary information, but when I went to tell him he yelled "Antler said you were the one killing my friends!" and he attacked me. I figured he was just crazy, but it did feel kind of anti-climatic at the time. I got a sweet sword off of him, though!

So, I sneaked into Vegas Outskirts at around level 2, maybe 3. Thinking that I could cut a few main-story locales and skip right to the good shit. I was able to do a little exploring, do a few quests, kill a few enemies with like most of my ammunition. But not too soon after, I was encountering enemies that were basically one-shotting me.

So I turn back, now level 4 or 5, headed for the main quest. Now I'm fucking mowing dudes down like they were ghouls :lol.

My question is, did Obsidian do away with the scaling leveling system from TES4/FO3?
God I did this near the beginning of the game. The first thing I wanted to do was go to Vegas. I went to that giant cross near Goodsprings Cemetery, and was about to head into the valley, and saw a sign that said "Warning Deathclaws". I decided to head down a path left of that instead. I saw 2 Cazadores, and not knowing what they were capable of, I thought I could take 2 of them on at such a low level. I was wrong, way wrong. I obviously died there and decided to take the road to the left of that. Victor came up behind me and said that way was dangerous, so I turned back. Then, I suddenly was being hit from behind. I turn around to be face-to-face with a Cazador. I keep backpeddling and shooting, but it's not doing much. Here's the worst part though: Victor was watching this whole thing and he didn't do a damn thing to help me!

A little later I headed through Black Mountain, and got a warning from that Super Mutant that it was dangerous. At that point, I could see the bright lights from the Lucky 38 from where I was at, and that it was so close, so I headed straight there. Suddenly, I was being attacked from behind by a Deathclaw! I ran for a trailer, and figured out that apparently Deathclaws are too tall to fit in trailers! Long story short, 4 Deathclaws were waiting outside the trailer for me, and I managed to catch a lucky moment when they ran far enough away where I could quick travel somewhere else.

I wish Obsidian had given the player the ability to mark the map and write custom notes. They did it for NWN2 and it would be so beneficial for this game to be able to do things like mark where certain crafting pieces are to retrieve them at later points, and stuff like that.

Not sure. My companion (Boone) was glitched and randomly disappeared so I couldn't add any new companions. :(

You don't need to but there's no way to avoid it once you start the main storyline. Theres also a few quests (with the Khans) that send you there outside of the main storyline.

For Fallout games I've taken to writing down notes on the side, especially for items currently locked in the games like you said. It's a pain, but it's uh, an even more interactive wasteland that way? :lol

if you killed any after you spoke with him that might be the reason.

This is probably the case, I pretty much killed all of them before I spoke with him though, and he didn't have any beef with me.

I keep my iPad with me and make notes as I play. It's hilariously fun and makes the game a lot more interactive, yes. It's like my own wasteland journal. I even wrote down the recipes I use for quick references while I'm out scavenging so I don't forget what to grab.

Harkens back to the oldschool CRPG days when we drew our own maps on graph paper. :lol

Nope, I spoke to him after I killed all the nightkin and he yelled at me and attacks, I think if you kill all the other nightkin he gets mad

I wish they had let you have hotkeys for status, map, etc. Did modders ever get this to work on F3?

Yeah, I believe so. I didn't play around too hugely with modded Fallout 3 because I ended up losing interest in the game.

There's a UI mod out for NV I've been using that works well, though that one just tinkers solely with the UI, not hotkeys. One of those should be out soon enough if it isn't already.

But I agree, stuff like this should be mandatory for PC games. It's very basic stuff.

In-game note taking would rock, though. Zoom into the map all the way and place a tiny marker with a note. WHY IS THAT SO HARD? :(

Did anyone ever mod custom map notes in for Fallout 3? Seems like it should be feasible.

As far as companions go, I'm using
ED-E
right now and he gets stuck every ten feet. Whether it be a wall, a sign, a rock...it's bullshit. Maybe it's just his movement type? They really need to fix walk paths and the like.

Ehhhhh........Still the same way it is in FO3/Oblivion, not so hot. Especially on this game because you can't use the nice new ironsights.

I have him, he sucks ass, ehh maybe I will get the dog instead.

Stupid question, how do you switch to 3rd person view, I heard someone talking about it.

Right now I have access to ED-E, Veronica, Boone, and Arcade. I have ED-E and Veronica currently. Should I be taking Boone or Arcade, or is Veronica ok? She keeps getting killed in
Vault 34.

On PC you scroll with the mouse wheel. There are a couple mods, too, to increase the distance of the scroll and to center the camera behind you.

On console I think I remember it being a press of a joystick. Can't remember though, it's been a while.

I think the jailer is the key nightkin here since you need to kill him to get to the dead ghoul gal, so if you kill the jailer he gets mad but you can do the ghoul guy's quest. If you do not kill the jailer you have to kill the ghoul to get the nightkin to leave and he is happy. There is probably someway to do both but I couldn't figure it out

Also am I the only one that took the melee weapon off Boone so he just shoots?

I'm at

10 hours in and I'm loving this game more and more. It's definitely more challenging than Fallout 3 (playing on default difficulty and hardcore), which is good, because you quickly turned into an invincible badass when playing Fallout 3 at default settings.

I started playing today and I'm getting really bad artifact's on my screen like random dot flashes of black or white. I'm using a GTX 460.

Any one else experiencing this and if so is there a fix.

I believe that is a common occurrence with Nvidia cards. They're working with Nvidia on driver patches as well as working on patches for the game itself.
