Famitsu News 4/26/11 [Updated]

So early last year Tri-Ace started talking about their ASKA engine and how they started developing a game in 2009 that would essentially be ASKA 2.0. Around the same time there were various rumors and hints towards a new Star Ocean game.

Now flashforward a year later and tri-Ace is developing PSP/3DS games and have set up a development/bragging site about ASKA that heavily reuses Star Ocean mofits.

....Yeah, I'm going to go on a limb here and say that Star Ocean 5 got cancelled and tri-Ace is now trying to repurpose those assets to show off its ASKA 2.0 engine and get additional HD work from a publisher... any publisher. Just a thought guess!

A while ago SE posted a chart of brands they wanted to strengthen, which included Star Ocean. So don't think so.

Don't ask for a link though, don't remember the thread...

One brand they need to strengthen is Valkyrie Profile.

Which is kinda weird, since the SO director said SO has ended in 3, and he doesn't really like 4.

AFAIK, he said that SO4 would be the last SO game he'll develop/direct.

But yeah, whatever etc., he did say SO ended with 3.

What? Gotanda wasn't even involved in SO4. tri-Ace doesn't own the SO IP. S-E does, they can pay tri-Ace to keep making SO games even if Gotanda doesn't care anymore. Gotanda only wrote and directed the first 3 SOs. Since then he hasn't been involved.

I guess that explains why SO4 is shit. XD

I always thought they were tri-Ace property, what with stuff like Gabriel and naming conventions appearing in different games.

Those different games are also owned and published by S-E. :P

Whoops must have mixed up Gotanada with Yamagishi.

I see. :P

Now that I think about it, I guess that explains why RoF has none of those references.
