As principal photography began today on the next Fantastic Beasts adventure, Warner Bros. confirmed that Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) and Newt will work together to take on Dark wizard Grindelwald and his followers.

Grindelwald will ‘make a dramatic escape' from MACUSA custody, forcing Albus Dumbledore to join the wizarding world's efforts to stop him.

The villainous Grindelwald has been busy ‘gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings'. Dumbledore will look to his former student Newt for help.

Newt will again be joined by Queenie and Tina Goldstein in the next film, as well as his No-Maj friend Jacob Kowalski, and a host of new characters. However, the mission against Grindelwald will ‘test their loyalties' as the wizarding world becomes more divided and dangerous.

Ezra Miller's character Credence will return in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts adventure, as well as Jacob Kowalski, played by Dan Fogler.

New characters coming to the new Fantastic Beasts film were revealed today, as principal photography began at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden.
Standouts include a bounty hunter called Grimmson, played by Icelandic actor Ingvar Sigurdsson; William Nadylam as a wizard called Yusuf Kama; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, the owner of a wizarding circus and Claudia Kim as one of the circus's ‘featured attractions'.

Warner Bros. also confirmed that Callum Turner will appear as Newt's older brother, Theseus Scamander, while Zoë Kravitz returns as Leta Lestrange.

Warner Bros. also said that the movie, which picks up the story in 1927, would include some ‘surprising nods' to the Harry Potter stories.

Warner Bros. have confirmed that the new Fantastic Beasts film will be heading to New York, to London, and then on to Paris.

The new Fantastic Beasts film is slated for release 16 November, 2018. The as-yet-untitled film is being directed by David Yates.

First one was decent to be honest, I was really skeptical beforehand but it was good fun. It does feel like something they could make a few movies out of so hopefully this turns out good.

I always thought Grindlewald was supposed to be contemporaneous with Htiler.

His defeat ocurred in 1945, but he was active for most of the first half of the 20th Century.

What's more weird about this is we know Dumbledore actively avoided any confrontation with Grindelwald until Grindelwald's expansion in Europe made it impossible for Dumbledore to ignore. So why would he be gallivanting after Grindelwald with Scamander 18 years before that happened?

Presumably they're just gonna rewrite it? Or give themselves a big glob of artistic licence.

I really enjoyed the first one. Also one of the few films in recent years that used 3d to elevate the film. Hopefully this one still has a lot of magical beasts in it.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

Still haven't watched the first one because of this guy. His films are just so bland.

Any decent director would want to kill themselves after working on Harry Potter for 12 years straight, but I suppose that sums up Yates as a director. He's happy churning out these drab, grey films and collecting his pay check.

I was pretty down on the yates-potter films and wasn't looking forward to Fantastic Beasts that much going into it. But Yates has a lot of fun with the beasts in this film and it makes for a really enjoyable flick. It's way better than any of his Potter films, as said before the beasts are fantastic (no pun intended), the world is set up pretty nicely and there are some great performances.

Is there a reason that they've not specifically mentioned Johnny Depp? They've spoken about all the new actors joining the cast, and I know he's not exactly new but that'd be worth mentioning, surely?

Is it too much to hope they've dropped him?

Callum Turner really does look like he could be Redmayne's sibling. Inspired casting there.

Last one was...aiight. Forgettable overall but fun while I watched it. I remember being really bummed out that Colin Farrell was replaced at the end by what looks to be another phoned in shit Johnny Depp performance tho.

Depp is in the middle of a PR crisis, they will probably not talk about him for the time being.

If only. They don't mention Redmayne either though, and he'll obviously be in it. On the plus side, polyjuice exists so it'll be real easy to recast if they want to.

Surprised at how good the first one was, glad they are keeping Newt, Jacon, Queenie and Tina together, they played off each other well. Looking forward to seeing what Zoe Kravitz does as a Lestrange.

Excited to see Jude. I loved Dan Fogler, glad to see him back.

And they could easily make Farrel's character a real person who was kept prisoner by Grindelwald, like Moody in HP4.

I'm a bit surprised that they're bringing everyone back. The first movie kind of wrapped most things up, especially Kowalski

Then again, Kowalski ended up being my favorite character, so I don't mind that much.

This may sound silly, but I felt the first was so CGI heavy, nothing really had weight. I wish they used more advanced puppeteering for at least some shots of the beasts. Still looking forward to the second.

Lets just hope his friend doesn't get memory wiped again, unless that's going to be the running gag.

Yeah I agree, I wasn't expecting the side characters to make a return which would have been a shame because they were much more interesting than the leads. At the ending of the film I was expecting
Kowalski's bite from earlier in the film to have immunised him against the Obliviation
so when it didn't I was a little disappointed, but they gave
him and Queenie
a decent end, so I thought that was it. Glad to see them coming back.

My hype is kind of deflated due to Depp. Still though, I enjoyed the first one alright and I'm always down for more Potter. I'm also very excited to see Law as Dumbledore, I think he's going to be great.

Jude Law is pretty incredible casting for the role.

And the Depp and Farrell thing was a shame. Who knows. Maybe Depp has scheduling conflicts playing the Invisible Man.

Started to watch the first one on a long flight but had to stop after 30-45 minutes because I got bored. As a huge Jude Law fan I'm really torn. I guess I'll have to finish the first one after all...

Double downing on the Grindelwald story, ugh. Noone cares about him, just give us Newt, Beasts and in particular Kowalski.

Just do a Time Travel thing and get Radcliffe back in the mix

I knew they were going to retcon the Dumbledore/Grindlewald stuff.

Dumbledore isn't supposed to go after him until they have their big duel in the 40s.

Wonder if they'll even attempt to explain the Elder Wand stuff. That Grindlewald should have it already, and that Newt or some random MCUSA Auror should be it's new master, having disarmed him int he last film.
