Stretch out the beard and it's a nice fit.

This is after they were in high school. Dd and grindlewald shouldn't see each other until 1945. I hope they keep to that.

I liked the idea of Richard Harris son playing a young DD, but I can't be upset about this.

I didn't see the first movie but Johnny Depp is Grindelwald? That is either incredibly inspired casting or really off casting.
That was really distracting in the movie. I liked Colin Ferrell as the villain and then it's just like "oh, he transformed into Johnny Depp" and I was way less interested.

Everything about this new series sucks.

Eddie Redmayne is terrible at acting, the Colin Farrell -> Johnny Depp downgrade is stupid, and they seem to have gone even further down the Yates "magic has no rules or anything quantifiable really anymore" route.

Like the bit at the end of the film where they obliviated an entire city was eye rollingly stupid considering tiny infractions made in the original franchise were a huge ordeal to fix.

I also have zero doubt that they are suddenly going to re-retcon dumbledore and make him straight again because lord knows they can't actually have him be gay now that they need to sell cinema tickets.

You are entitled to a bad opinion I guess.

I mean it, it really was a terrible movie, to me. I never want to watch it again.

It's not even nostalgia for the other Harry Potter films, I just watched all of those a year ago and thought every one of them was fantastic.

I'm guessing this movie will focus on
Grindelwald obtaining the Elder Wand and will end with a big duel between him and
Dumbledore.

Edit: put it in spoiler tags just in case

I wonder if the end game in these new movies is to lead up to james and lilly entering hogwarts in the 70s. And then that will be a new series of movies to do.

With Rowling involved? No way.

In an interview she mentioned that she red pencilled a line for movie 6 were Dumbledore remembers dating a beautiful girl in his youth with a big "Guys, Dumbledore is gay!" note

You know Rowling wrote the script right? Its not Yates who writes them lol

Good casting but the first movie was worse than The Phantom Menace
Jesus

I loved Fantastic Beasts. Was kinda hoping the following movies would be the continued adventures of Newt Scamander. I hope they don't lose sight of that when bringing in the bigger storyline.

Loved the first movie to death for being so much fun and made with love, can't wait for the next one. Only complaint is Depp over Farrell, cause Farrell is actually starting to become a competent actor so I wanna see more of him.

uh the first movie was ok i guess...i liked the baker guy and the mindreading woman as side characters

i didn't find it believable that graves/grindelwald got his ass kicked by an animal that spits sticky goo when he was wiping the floor with like 25 aurors in the subway

i hope #2 will be better

Rowling has all the power here. Not gonna happen.

Nah, the fandom hate has a way more deserving target.

We're at a point were the writers flat out said that this was only the "rehearsal script" and that a new script with changes based on feedback will be used for new showings (and sold separately of course...)
Wow I bought it but never got to reading much of it, is it really that bad? I assumed it had to be better than FBAWTFT.

Well that's good to hear, at least. But do you guys think they'll have anything explicitly gay in the films? If they're dealing with Grindlewald/Dumbledore in depth they'd probably need to go into it, and I'm worried that they'll just completely gloss over it/not make any reference to it.

I've seen this opinion thrown around quite often and I don't get it. But then again, I'm also a guy who likes Phantom Menace for the same reasons I like Fantastic Beasts: they build up a very intriguing universe.

Don't get the hate for Fantastic Beasts. It wasn't anything particularly special but it did a good job of setting up a new series and expanding on the HP universe. Could have been far, far worse.

You think the fourth and sixth HP were better than Fantastical Beasts? Gross.

Not to derail the thread but.

37 year-olds Harry and Co. Act like their insufferable 15 year-old book 5 selves.

Hilarious Retcons to allow a "
lets time travel to fix the past"
plot

This guy makes an appearance in the Harry Potter Universe

In the form of the
Hogwarts Express Trolley Witch
.

Also the character assassination of Cedric is downright insulting

And the villain reveal makes absolutely ZERO sense in the timeline no matter where you look at it

Fantastic Beasts worse than Phantom Menace, wait what? I thought Fantastic Beasts was generally fine, through the whole fixing the problem at the end was just so ridiculous, but whatever.

IMO:

Newt was surprisingly boring and not compelling at all. Tina, the other lead, was the most dull character in all the Harry Potter films. People complain about the overuse of special effects in TPM but Fantastic Beats had way more CGI and much of it just felt soulless. The fantastic beats were meh. And then that kid who turns into the dark energy was more annoying than young Anakin. The ending where everything was reversed easily trumps the battle droids being shut down by destroying the control ship.

I was pretty disinterested in the whole thing in general. The Phantom Menace is genuinely a better film. It had much higher highs, with the Maul lightsaber fight, Qui-Gon. Even the Ben-Hur pod race was entertaining. I'd watch it any day over Fantastic Beasts.

Goblet of Fire is one of my favourites.
