Far Cry 3 |OT| Sex, Drugs, and the Call of Battle in the Uncharted

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
So the new Youtube just put a spoiler video for this game under my "Recommended For You".

Fuck the new YouTube.

Wow the same thing happened to me earlier tonight. Fortunately I already finished the game but I was highly surprised at how carelessly this was thrown my way.

"We recommend 'video that spoils the entire story of the videogame in its title and thumbnail' because you watched 'Far Cry 3 trailer'"

The new youtube layout is a complete trainwreck.

Just finished it. Glad to be be rid of it really, did not enjoy my time on the island. Repetitive missions that don't amount to anything, safe game design all the way through, the devs really don't want the player to fail in any way (other than combat, but true challenge is so much more than just opposition) and rewards the player too much at all times. This is probably the biggest reason the game is so uninvolving and just plain boring. There are important parts of the game where you can literally win or get through the area by pressing one button the whole time. I don't care how pretty your game looks or whatever you throw at me, if I'm not controlling any of it I don't give a shit.

One of my most disappointing games this year.

I've found the missions midway through the second island to ramp up in difficulty a fair amount, on Hard at least. I'm no longer just blazing through effortlessly. 89% done, though, and I will 100% this!

God's had his chance.
Beat this two days and spent yesterday running around finding things to do in the end game (kill everything.. basically). What a fantastic game. As someone who was fairly into FC2 this game does such a fantastic job of making you feel powerful at the end and in my opinion does a better job than any other FPS i can think of at making you feel like a normal dude with a gun and a knife in the beginning and then turning you into a silent death dealing armed to the teeth murder machine by the end.

Vaas is indeed a great character. Personally i enjoyed Hoyt as well... they were both pretty charismatic and engrossing when they were on the screen but for me... my favorite character ... Sam. Hands. Fucking. Down.

Good god I love that patriot. Final mission spoilers !!!
The missions leading up to the poker game with Hoyt and then the poker game had me wanting to reach through the TV and high five that badass myself. I don't think another friendly NPC in a game has ever seemed more genuine and helpful and his personality is spot perfect for the in deep undercover agent who has done/seen way too much for this evil fuck and is all about fucking his shit sideways. Also.. his reactions in almost all your missions/story line sequences with him feel intelligent. My number one pet peeve in writing for games/tv/movies anything is characters - especially those in a field like black ops or something - doing stupid shit or NOT doing obvious things someone in their possition would do. When he hears Riley say his name and puts together that the prisoner is your brother without you needing to spell it out for him and then without prompting sets the cameras to loop to give you a chance to talk to him and put together a plan ... fuckin pitch perfect. I was so happy i got to completely fuck Hoyt's head sideways after he killed him. I couldn't peel my eyes off of Sams as he was dieing. Right then and there i wished i could have let this digital character in a video know that there was no way in hell i was gonna let that piece of shit live. That i was gonna eviscerate that bastard FOR Sam. so gud. Would play again...

I don't understand the comments of boring or one and done.

I have actually started a second game after getting 18 hours into first (only on mission 5) just to get the basics set up so when I finish all the missions on Game one I can switch over to the second game and just do nothing but screw around like I used to do in FC2.... fighting randoms and hunting... I will spend months in this world a couple times a week as a nice change from other games.

Love it.

Finally got this and started playing.

I don't hate the characters. I sympathise with them (although I haven't met them in person yet). I hate Vaas and I take every chance I get to kill the pirates. I tried the atv medkit mini mission and it was horrendous. Worst driving controls this gen. Cars are better thankfully.

Looks like I'm in for a good game.

I saved 2 guys who were being escorted by pirates and out of nowhere a commodo dragon jumped on one and killed him.

Does anyone know how to extract the sounds for this? I see a 'sounds.dat' file. Towards the end of the game, a song plays while you're (very minor location spoiler)
on the airfield
. I found a piece of that song in the OST track "Rook Island" from 1:10 to 1:42 of that song, but it isn't a long/full version of that track I heard while playing the game.

I thought that part was great, and I'm not even particularly fond of dubstep. Guess you can't please everyone with licensed music, but I wish we'd see more stuff like that indeed.

I mentioned him as my favorite character as well. YOU'RE MY BRO
SAM!!
:(

Ah literally just finished. What a splendid and unforgettable experience.

I
saved Jasons friends, even though part of me really wanted to stick with Citra.

Some really fantastic writing in this too.

yea I never listen to it myself but damn it was perfect for that mission

Loved it (especially as many times as it took to beat it)

Just beat it as well. Decided to
join Citra and finish the path of the warrior for the inevitable controversial ending I saw coming after given the choice. But holy shit, I did not expect the bitch to sacrifice me after impregnating her. Kind of a neat ending, actually. Not to mention powerful.
That said, game gets a 9.0 from me. It's just plain fun, with a driven story and an open world to mess around in as well. Like mixing something along the lines of Uncharted with a sandbox.

Humm, is there any way to disable icons for treasure boxes or loots like plants and stuff? Kind of defeats the purpose of "exploring" if all you do is making a beeline for icons and stuff...

Just 2 hours in but this kind of sticks out for me.

Go into the legend on the map screen. You can turn off most of the icons.

Wow, Story Mission 26ish where you have to
protect the idiot trying to fix the plane
, can seriously go fuck itself. Really close to just ruining the game for me.

Really do not like how Vaas had to be kiiled in the middle of the game. I liked his character (eventhough he was insane) his writing was great and his voice actor really played the part well.

Got a little bit left to go, but I feel like the crazy parts are over now, but I could be surprised. Even if they are, the beginning was so good, that it may not change my mind on this game much even if the end is really tame.

As much as I have enjoyed this, I must admit that I am feeling a case of that shooter burnout coming on. It always happens and I just have to take a break from them for awhile. Really great game, though. I have just played too many shooters this holiday season.

man wtf, I came home early to play only to load up my saves and for some reason not have any of my guns available for use? I literally can't select any of em even though they're all equipped.

I tried running over a guy and attempting to take his gun but the new gun won't show up, I tried buying/re-equipping guns from the store but they won't show up either. Tried updating to 1.03 and still the same problem, any ideas?

EDIT: Damn I feel dumb, I just wasn't able to use weapons for that mission lol

I found that one easy. And I didn't even notice the emplaced machine gun you're meant to use until after the mission.

I finished it earlier tonight and really liked the game a lot. I kind of mainlined the story about halfway through to see what happened, but I'm going to go back and do some of the side stuff. At least the outposts because they are a lot of fun.

Quite polarizing, or so it seems. But Kick the Hornet's Nest is probably one the best missions I ever played in any game. Everything that makes Far Cry 3 great comes together in that particular mission.

The crazy beats out of nowhere are just the icing on the cake. I loved every second of it.

Lol. A few of us bitched about this a few pages ago

The story missions are mostly scripted garbage. I find the decision to forego the open world for the scripted story puzzling considering the game really shines when it remains open world.

There was a few missions especially near the end that were some bullshit. Untold amounts of enemies, 50 fucking heavies, seriously not that fun.

The main gripe I have with this game besides how sparse the island is how generic the enemies feel. They're just so bland and devoid of flavour.

Just finished the game and loved it.

Repetitive visuals(same environment over and over) and lame story are the games only negatives. The does open world combat very well. Better than Far Cry 2 but still not as good as Far Cry 1.

Just got to the second island and played my first poker game. How long-ish is the game from here?
Just to avoid ruining someone's good time and not wanting to know.
Not long. Few hours maybe. You can check your handbook or something in the start menu to see how many missions you have left
.
