Did i miss something of why comes a patch for a 11 years old game for a five and a half years old console randomly?

You got respect ubis old school hustle. They're probably looking for ways to make their Ubi+ catalog more appealing.

Far cry 3 and blood dragon are the obvious next to get the upgrade.

Why didn't they "remaster" it with 60fps as a selling point with graphical "enhancements" and sell it for $40? Is Ubisoft healing?

If it's not yet on PS+ it might be heading that way and this is a good way of getting more people to install/play - aka more money. Other than that, it might make some people to buy it - aka more money.

On sale for $5 as well as included with PS+ Extra

Ubisoft has been one of the few consumer-friendly companies when it comes to current-gen patching. They also were one of the few publishers that kept pricing as-is for cross-gen titles.

For the shit they deserve over a lot of things, they deserve praise for this.

Probably on PS6 RDR2 "definitive edition". Sony wants money for upgrades or don't update at all like with Bloodborne.
Sony doesn't charge for patches and most of the 10$ upgraded games already had free patches that unlocked the framerate to 60.

Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War (2018), Infamous 2nd Son, Ghosts of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part 2, Ratchet & Clank, Days Gone etc. all received 60fps patches. Also what the fuck does Sony have to do with Red Dead Redemption 2 not being 60fps?

Still kinda hoping for AC Unity. It's been almost 11 years since I've last played it (at launch), but because of the atrocious state it shipped in I never quite finished it. Not sure how it ran on consoles at launch, but it was abysmal on PC.

Some late PS4 gen games mostly with some exceptions (like Ratchet). At the same time Uncharted remaster is the only way to play the game in 60fps on PS5.

There are still many games with ZERO updates: Killzone (locked to 1080p, it's 60fps thanks to unlocked framerate), The Last Guardian (this one fucking sucks, disc version has unlocked framerate but they patched it...), Order, Gravity Rush 2, Driveclub and some others that I don't remember now.

Meanwhile fucking ubisoft is giving free patches to games that are more than 10 years old. Sony also wanted to charge for forbidden west PS4->PS5 upgrade but changed their decision after the backlash.

They are kings of remasters right now, pulling "free" games from PS+ to upgrade them later in some lazy remaster for 10$.

Most of those are from defunct developers so where would the update come from exactly?

Remasters are often done by third party studios (like Virtuos) and simple "60fps" patch requires far less resources than remaster.

This is the weakest link of console BC, now thanks to x86 we will have BC (most likely) for every new gen but because games are locked to the hardware specs at the time we will have to play 30fps/1080p PS4 games on PS6/PS7. Because it requires effort only small % of PS4 games got patches (from the whole libary), same will be true with PS5.

Meanwhile games on PC are designed to be scalable so you can get best possible experience with every hardware (like 8k/480fps in the future).

Still didn't answer where the patch would come from when the studio is either closed or under a new publisher. Now you've jumped into a whole other topic like bringing up PC per usual. I bought a console, not a PC some I'm not expecting the same level of customization.

Patch would come from other devs ordered to do this. You think original guys that developed FC4 in 2014 did this patch? Most likely not.

The developer Ubisoft Montreal is still a LIVE branch of Ubisoft so it's easy for them to do a patch. Now can you say the same for Evolution, Ready at Dawn, Team ICO? No, you can't because they're dead.

Sony have source code for games they released, unless they lost it .

I'm pretty sure that we won't see patches to those games (I listed) but remasters done by other studios? Maybe...
