FBI reviewing emails found on devices used by Weiner/Abedin

4 hours ago all the talk was that this was a non story and the news channels were pulling back coverage of it, but I've had CNN on at work for the past 4 hours and it's been the only story.

After they attacked him? The Republicans were attacking him as soon as he didn't charge her,in real time, which is exactly what I was pointing out in the post you quoted. Stop trying to move the goalposts. I said Democrats were using Comey as an apoeal to authority. You said that didn't happen. I showed you it did. You...give a non response, then attack me? All rights.

Now you're all over the place. This is you:
Old hotness:. " Stupid Republicans, listen to the impartial FBI director who determined Hilary did nothing wrong"
New hotness: "biased Comey playing politics wtf"
Old hotness: " Comey in the Clinton pocket playing politics not doing his job"
New hotness: "Comey coming around finally wiling to be honest and reopen investigation"

The quick turnaround by Hillary supporters is by far the most amusing. You can find cites to comey being an authority that should be trusted and listened to anytime anyone brings up emails all over dozens of threads right here on gaf.

You're conflating things here. People are specifically talking about his press conference announcement, which should go against any kind of side talk, since the FBI by and large are a police force that enforces laws and what they say should be the end of it. How are they using him as an appeal to authority other than pointing out that the FBI has found that she has done nothing wrong, other than being an old person who doesn't get tech. In most cases, what your talking about happens when someone says something like "If it was anyone else they would've been arrested." What else should someone say? Not exactly what Comey said?

Then you make it sound like Dems loved Comey, when in fact, the only thing they liked is that he stuck by the evidence.

Well, it's not like there's anything else to report on a Friday night...

Woof. No one wins here. I hope she didn't do anything incriminating, for her sake and ours.

Hopefully it continues to just be a (pardon) witch hunt. Everyone pray there is nothing illegal in those emails.

Deserved or not, Republicans will be making a very big and loud deal of this. It's their only hope. A rope thrown at the very last moment.

Welcome to Neogaf!

Good to see the thread title changed back.

I have a feeling like some of these emails on weiners laptop were the ones she deleted

Trump is taking super advantage of this. I'm voting for her but she definitely fucked up with the private email servers and is hiding something.

You would think they could dig up another woman groped by Trump....but honestly they've covered it so much I honestly think few people pay attention at this point.

Also, Clinton making a statement on things probably ramped things up considerbly.

An appeal to authority is a fallacy in regards to something that the authority didn't literally rule on themselves. I'm good on the PM, you should figure out what the words you're using mean.

Really doubt there's anything here. Like the last e-mail fiasco, it was all about nothing much really.

I don't like the FBI coming out with this now though.. 11 days wasn't all that much to wait especially when they don't even know if there's something really worth a shit.

Yea James dropped the ball on this. He's pretty incompmenent though.

Actually I believe there was another woman who came forward today. But like you said I don't think these networks are paying attention to that story anymore.

Yeah, it's just frustrating that our media buys into it hook, line, and sinker without even trying to get the facts straight at all just for the sake of ratings and even the evening news shows went in on the "October Surprise" angle despite airing hours after it becoming clear that, at least for the time being, there's nothing here. I hate this. =/

Sigh, but Hillary never actually deleted any of the emails...

It's totally frustrating that people still think she personally one night just started deleting emails out of fear.

There were some deleted emails from 2014 that the FBI found anyway and are included in it's investigation. Then, there was another batch that Hillary's aides asked to be erased in 2015, because they weren't from the time period requested by Congress. But the worker at the company that maintained the server messed up and forgot to delete them until he remember, on the day the emails were subpoenaed, IIRC.

So no, there's no reason to think that suddenly Hillary hid 33,000 emails on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin's home computer.

Eh, most people were still bashing Comey for that press conference that blew everything out of proportion because he was lobbing soundbytes to the GOP. Then when he spoke in front of Congress he carefully explained to them why Clinton wasn't charged.

It says a lot that for over a decade the GOP has been expending an absurd amount of energy into bringing down HRC and the best they can do is she was kind of careless with a few pieces of classified info.

If you consider the whole Clinton family. The GOP has spent 20 some years. There is no end in sight. They have already admitted to new investigations if she becomes POTUS.

I think they are nudes Hilary sent to Wiener.

So that's news but potential corruption at the top of the US government isn't news?

When Comey can't even be smarter than Trump and gives away their plan before they do it, there's a problem. Comey admits they have no clue what it is, and we know that it's not Hillary's email/server, so why is it news today?

This doesn't even make sense.

This is so highly irresponsible from the FBI, inserting themselves into the political process without any reason to do so. They have no evidence of wrongdoing, this is Comey playing dirty politics. He should be removed from his position asap by the next elected president.

It would certainly be news if something incriminating was uncovered.

Has something incriminating been uncovered? I'd appreciate a link since I can't find anything in this thread.

If she had nothing to hide then she wouldn't delete any of them. And the "worker that maintained the email server" is a heavily experienced IT technician who wouldn't make that mistake. And I never said 33k of them were sent to wiener. I'm saying some of the deleted ones might have been sent there. Again, I'm not supporting Trump in the slightest but I'm not going to ignore things I see wrong with Hillary just because she's the better option of the two.

She seems confident that she has nothing to hide and the timing of this sucks for her as it's not enough time for her to be potentially vindicated of this but everyone has to admit she dodges email questions.

I just want this election to be over.

I hope it is nothing, but if it is something, I hope they find out what that something is.

Bizarre isn't it? The Guardian (hardly a right wing shill) has had it as their leading story since it broke. Reading this thread you'd think it's something which will appear in the papers tomorrow at the bottom of page eight.

Even if she got elected to office it wouldn't stop. This has been going on for decades prior and will continue for a while even when both Clintons are dead and buried.

You can't think of any other reason someone would delete emails?

Let me give you a tip on logical reasoning: conclusions follow premises, not the other way around. Jumping to the conclusion you favor by assuming that's where the evidence leads means you've ignored every other possibility. That's not just irrational, it's irresponsible, and that way of thinking will lead you into error.

I didn't say that Hillary shouldn't be criticized for anything. She was wrong to not just use a government email, period.

But that isn't the same thing as wanting to do something illegal or that is disqualifies her from being good president or a good candidate. It's not. Even Colin Powell endorsed her after we all saw how he shit on her for using a private server, but him, like the FBI, saw that there wasn't maintent.

And that should be enough for everybody. Those Podesta emails also show that there really isn't anything sinister going on in Clinton World beyond typical politics and old people using email for mundane things.

Cant wait for Hillary to win. Tick Tock Comey, you partisan piece of shit hack. Republicans and Democrats alike are stunned by how this was handled. I think Hillary wouldnt want a festering, ignorant piece of shit in that position anyway.

Sorry Im coming into this late, but you'd think it would have to be something big if it was discovered during the Weiner deal.

It literally doesn't matter what it is. If it had even the barest, who gives a fuck relation to the Clinton inquiry Comey sends that message to congress. Not doing so puts his testimony in question, which he is as you might imagine eager to not allow.

Exaclty. I'm a federal employee (not a contractor) and we are actually instructed to delete emails with confidential information as soon as they are no longer necessary. I think my inbox has like a 20MB limit on it.

Why would it have to be something big? How are you drawing this conclusion?

Because they knew the shitstorm it would cause and if it was minor or some kind of a coincidence they could wait til after the election to announce anything. But again, Comey could be butthurt regarding all the criticism he's gotten and is doing this to silence his critics.

Do you work in IT?

So in an internal memo Comey admits that his announcement could seriously disrupt the campaign, says he has no clue what's in the emails, and says he wasn't actually obligated to say shit.

People are still defending this motherfucker?
