I tend to weigh energy/environmental issues heavier than most others, but Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, is an anti-science conspiracy theorist, and most of her party's platform on non-environmental issues is often unacceptable to me. I've pretty much accepted the reality that no party represents my views well, but often settle for blue.
 
Is there any possibility that this could be about the 33K deleted emails coming to light? Kim Dotcom seems to be happier than a pig in mud about today's news.
 
I kind of wonder if Comey is saving his job.

Now he knows that neither administration would dare replace him unless he steps down on his own. Trump would just assume Comey did it for him, Hillary can't afford the bad look of getting rid of Comey ever.

I don't think he's trying to shake the election. I think he announced this as a deadman switch.

Water is wet. I mean they freak out about something every day. I remember a couple of weeks ago where it was revealed that Hillary doesn't always write all of the tweets.

The hosts were losing their minds. Mocking interns as basement dwelling nerds that live with their mommies, complete with nerd voices and asthma sounds, and saying Hillary isn't smart enough so she has too.

To folks saying Comey was fucked either way, I disagree.

FBI has hundreds of ongoing investigations and they never comment on ongoing investigation. If after election Congress found out Comey was not forthright with them, he could simply say "We do not comment on ongoing investigations" and be fucking done with it. Why is he twisting himself now, 11 days out from the election that will decide the fate of the republic?

No, she was criticized for lying about being sick and changing her story several times.

Hillary is insanely paranoid and secretive when by most accounts she has nothing at all to hide. And that is by far her biggest problem. If she was simply frank and upfront about things she wouldn't be involved in so many scandals.

She didn't lie about being sick or change her story, her first and only statement on it was dehydrated/overheated due to pneumonia. But that this is even a talking point at all shows how demented the idea of Hillary Clinton getting a free pass on anything really is.

Actually Hillary is guarded and lies just as much as a normal person would, like you and I. Her "lies" are protective in nature, not baseless bullshit meteor showers like Trump's. Watch this CNN thing they did called Science of Political Deception. It's 5 videos 3 minutes long each showing how political lies work, and where Hillary stands vis a vis Trump. It will open your mind.

Hillary is demonstrably one of the most honest politicians ever to run. She has been compared to politicians across the board and continues to come out favorably to virtually all of them. And with all the leaks from inside her campaign, she us now indisputably the most transparent candidate to ever run for office.

These people dont care about honesty or transparency. They demonized Hillary, and in their profound stubborness and ineptitude are incapable of acknowledging how wrong they are.

Well, the world of NeoGAF. Right? That's what's most pertinent to this specific discussion of who here is or isn't scrutinizing Hillary.

I actually don't think that NeoGAF on the whole gives Hillary that many "passes". Polari was able to criticize her even though he received a backlash for it. Nevertheless, there are some people who get uncomfortable when she's criticized on this issue. It's a thing. People here get uncomfortable when you criticize their favorite video games too.

And they refuse to see it. They have to believe she is the evilest woman to ever live, they feel it in their guts when even Russian hacks of her private life can't find it. They are feeling something, but it's not that Hillary is evil, it's that she should know her place.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, excoriated Comey’s timing.

“The FBI has a history of extreme caution near election day so as not to influence the results,” she said in a statement. “Today’s break from that tradition is appalling.”

Democrats were not alone in demanding Comey disclose more information or questioning such a disclosure so close to the presidential election.

"The letter from Director Comey was unsolicited and, quite honestly, surprising,” said a statement from Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a Republican. “But it's left a lot more questions than answers for both the FBI and Secretary Clinton. Congress and the public deserve more context to properly assess what evidence the FBI has discovered and what it plans to do with it.”

Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas asked in a tweet: “Why is FBI doing this just 11 days before the election?”

That is the difference between true intellectual curiosity and whining whenever someone says something negative about a game they like in an OT.

I have never had problems criticizing Obama or Hillary, or anything i like. These are humans or products made by humans. They are going to be flawed. Problem becomes when someone is so emotionally connected to their ideas that they go desperately searching for any scrap that confirms their narrative and ignore everything else.

So what this is actually about apparently.

This new evidence relates to how Abedin managed her emails. She maintained four email accounts—an unclassified State Department account, another on the clintonemail.com domain and a third on Yahoo. The fourth was linked to her husband’s account; she used it to support his activities when he was running for Congress, investigative records show. Abedin, who did not know Clinton used a private server for her emails, told the bureau in an April interview that she used the account on the clintonemail.com domain only for issues related to the Secretary’s personal affairs, such as communicating with her friends. For work-related records, Abedin primarily used the email account provided to her by the State Department.

Because Clinton preferred to read documents on paper rather than on a screen, emails and other files were often printed out and provided to her either at her office or home, where they were delivered in a diplomatic pouch by a security agent. Abedin, like many State Department officials, found the government network technology to be cumbersome, and she had great trouble printing documents there, investigative records show. As a result, she sometimes transferred emails from her unclassified State Department account to either her Yahoo account or her account on Clinton’s server, and printed the emails from there. It is not clear whether she ever transferred official emails to the account she used for her husband’s campaign.

Abedin would use this procedure for printing documents when she received emails she believed Clinton needed to see and when the Secretary forwarded emails to her for printing. Abedin told the FBI she would often print these emails without reading them. Abedin printed a large number of emails this way, in part because, investigative records show, other staff members considered her Clinton’s “gatekeeper” and often sent Abedin electronic communications they wanted the Secretary to see.

This procedure for printing documents, the government official says, appears to be how the newly discovered emails ended up on the laptop shared by Abedin and her husband. It is unclear whether any of those documents were downloaded onto the laptop off of her personal email accounts or were saved on an external storage device, such as a flash drive, and then transferred to the shared computer. There is also evidence that the laptop was used to send emails from Abedin to Clinton; however, none of those emails are the ones being examined by the FBI. Moreover, unless she was told by Abedin in every instance, Clinton could not have known what device her aide was using to transmit electronic information to her.

If the FBI determines that any of the documents that ended up on the shared device were classified, Abedin could be deemed to have mishandled them. In order to prove that was a criminal offense, however, investigators would have to establish that Abedin had intended to disclose the contents of those classified documents, or that she knew she was mishandling that information.

If the documents were not classified, no crime was committed. But either way, this discovery has embarrassed Clinton, even though there is no evidence at this point suggesting she has been implicated in any potential wrongdoing.

Why not wait until he has a press conference?

I mean... All he did was announce he was he was still looking into the emails, which could or could not be serious. After all, nothing has been announced and Clinton is certainly not guilty. I would rather have due process than abstaining it for the sake of an election.

Edit: I mean, look at Hillgaf. Ya'll are getting yourself in a tizzy about nothing. You don't even know what is in the contents of the emails any you are making sure judgments against the FBI Director who has seen them and made the judgment. I don't know what you want him to do? Stop? If he stops and it comes out he is looking into it when Hillary is president would you say its a right-wing conspiracy? Would you say its okay?

You all are thinking in the here and now and not thinking about what goes in the decision to announce this stuff now. Regardless of whether its going on now or when Hillary has won the election, you are going to decry that you are wronged. At least, I don't know what you want him to do? FBI procedure dictates that they investigate first and then charge or have press conferences etc. Not cause a political scandal before an election with vaguely worded letters that let's the user come up with their own narrative. You would have to be an idiot to think this isn't political

Actually the FBI is investigating because it is already known that HRC sent and received classified email on her private server and there is now additional evidence which requires further investigation.
