Feel the Magic XY/XX appreciation

I dont know about you guys but I feel like this was one of the best games from Sega in a long time. I feel that it's up there with some of the top cult classics of this gen like Rez and ICO.

Yeah the story was pretty simple by the end I was starting to feel an atachment to the characters up until the final scene which was the climax of it all.

I expected the whole game to feel like a rushed gimmicky use of the DS, but they really pulled it together nicely. The minigames work well with the story which gives a bit more incentive to play than your average Wario Ware minigame.

Now I'm going through hard mode and unlocking some of the costumes. Fun stuff. I dont mind playing the minigames over and over again because most of them are pretty fun. :D

Great game - best game on DS by a mile (not a hard accomplishment at this point tho...). I'm half way on hard mode - but I do wish it had something else... maybe more games, or some unlockable Sega classics would have been cool. (Touch Screen Space Harrier :D )

I just find myself going thru the menus at this point looking for something I missed - but alas...nothing. :P

I agree tho - one of the top games Sega has made in sometime.

I have no urge to buy this is it that good?

It's a fun game and a good launch title, but doesn't have the same replay value or creativity that Wario Ware does.

I haven't finished this game yet, but Sawaru! Made In Wario will be on my doorstep friday, so I really should try to beat this before then.

I wouldn't say it lacks creativity -- it's a different style than WarioWare -- but there's very little to replay once you complete it on all difficulties. Which should keep you occupied for about five hours. Having said that, I don't regret the $30 I spent on it.

It's alitle on the short side about the same length as Rez.
like a great short story so it's worth the experience.

If nothing else, it gets me excited about what else Sega will do on the DS. They seem to already have good feel for of how DS gameplay should work.

Touch Space Harrier would rock.

Well - if you own a DS then WHAT ELSE are you playing? Of course you should buy it - it's the only thing worth playing on DS at the moment.

How about GBA games?

HEY! I love my Mario mini games thank you very much :D

I clocked in at least 60 hours so far - no sleep :)

plus Advance Wars 2

I don't regret buying it either, it was a nice launch title that showed off the features of the DS well and was also alot of fun. It was also underrated because of the length.

Agreed.

I like the JAP boxart - US one is cool as well tho..

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a great game for the casual crowd, too, which is a point often missed by magazine reviewers because most of them are too damn hardcore for their own good. :p

To be fair, I haven't read any of the FtM reviews yet. I'm just sayin'.

It's okay, we know you were directing that comment at your ZD colleague from 1UP who gave it a 5/10. We can relate. We're all friends here!

Actually, I don't think DFS is too hardcore for his own good, and I didn't disagree with his review much at all, actually. Just the last part (basically saying it isn't worth $30) and the score. :p

I think your confusing hardcore with elitism. It sounds like he's just got a chip on his shoulder. If anything, games like FTM and Rez are what appeal to true hardcore gamers since it's fresh and never really been done before.

And the execution is pretty good too it doesn't come across as gimmickery.

Dave Smith sez: "It was made by girls, and you can tell."
He also referred to the game as "rank shit" shortly after it was announced, before anyone had gone hands-on with it. (I hope he kept an open mind anyway...)

I'm not sure if seismologist was talking to me or not, but I will let you know, FoneBone, that I was simply giving Dave and john a "hard time," if you could call it that. I like the game, DF doesn't, I really don't have a problem with the review. Except for that girl comment. I think that's stupidly funny. :D

OMG BUNDLES O MINI-GAMES!!!!!! NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!!!!!!! SO FRESH!!!!!!

Man, if they re-release California Games on the DS, some of you'll blow a serious nut.

Touch Hacky Sack would be incredible. It's just like playing with a controller, but with touch! And the seagull could be on the top screen!!!

The unicycle game seriously pisses me off. I can't beat it, so I had to do the Painter game twice instead, which is also a huge pain in the ass.

Other than that, its a nice little game.

There are two unicycle games, and they both own. I love the guy's shrieking.

It's an OK game, may pick it up when it hits $15. It's a rip of Wario Ware, but fun.

Yeah it's a classic Sega ripoff of Nintendo. Like Sonic was to Mario. I tend to like the Sega versions better since they're always a little edgier.

The presentation and humor are definitely 3/4's of FtM's appeal. If you can't get into them, you're not going to like the game as a whole. Admittedly, it's just a compilation of nice, touchscreen demos. But I think it's clever and polished, so that's enough for me. I usually hold games to pretty high standards, too. Think what you will! Just don't think ill of me. :(

Yeah, but the second one is a cake-walk compared to the first.

The stylus is too damn small for that type of thing, making it a very awkward control experience. More irritating than fun for me.

I just kept my mind on where the stylus was pointing rather than the position icon, since the character will follow the path pretty well.

the only one I gave up on was Sign, because I'm a stone-cold retard with that kind of puzzle (and then they had to have it in Mario 64, sigh!!)

Dude, the harder Sign levels... Seriously, I'd put my DS in sleep for extended periods at a time, just thinking about the puzzle while I went about doing other things. I hate stuff like that, but I wanted to say I did it. It was better than yelling at the damn screen repeatedly.

God I'm up to the Nightmare levels... was about to beat the plant, then I lost all my lives since it gives you like a split second of invincibility when you get hit... :P Then when I found out I had to do all that other crap over... forget it :P The game started to get really difficult for me when I fought the plant fight - took me forever to beat that, and the second unicycle game. This game is cool but I hate the music.

How much better would say Sawaru! Made In Wario is compared to Feel The Magic? Not by much? Both are equally as good?

So far I've beaten Normal, Hard, and Hell modes. Collected all 60 bunnies and have 166 of 182 stars.

The minigames I loathe in "memories" are Dance and Bowling.

I prefer Feel the Magic, but that's mainly because I'm all Warioed out at the moment. Mawaru sucked me dry. I don't want to take too much credit away from FtM though, it is a lot more coherent as a package, and sometimes it's nice to play fun minigames for longer than 5 seconds at a time ;)

Feel the magic was fun, and has a nice style, but it annoyed me by the end. Too many fights with that annoying mohawk guy derailed the story for me. Plus that one 'space' fight with him was crazy annoying and likely to kill peoples' touchscreens.

Sawaru still not here :(
