Console is great, MKW is great, even TOTK on it is great. I mean, it has everything to succeed.

The games situation is a bit tricky, while some would like 4 first party games day one, most Nintendo fans are very used to the 1 game/month cadence and that's what most of us bought the console for, eventually games I want to play will release and I'll already have the console for that, no rush.

The only thing I'd like them to hurry up with is putting dev kits in devs hands, I know they don't want "Loli Pussy Shoving Puzzle 989789789 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" to flood the eShop but there are trusted devs within big publishers that can get out some upgrades. Well IDK, maybe that already happened and they're saving announcements for themselves, who knows.

Not amazing for me personally. There's no software for me - or there is but I'm being a bitch and wanting physical carts. So I only ended up with Mario Kart, first Mario Kart game I've bought since Double Dash, and really only because I felt like I needed to buy *something*. I even considered Split Fiction or whatever, but it's a download code in a box. Mario Kart is solid though. I would get Bravely Default if it was on a real cart, but will wait for big discount on digital. Wish there were more first party games, or exclusive launch titles from third parties. I like the hardware but the only real disappointment is the battery life.

The first days of the Nintendo Switch 2 have been a sales success with strong numbers.

How does GAF feel about this?
I don't feel much to be honest. Glad it's doing alright. Wii U was a shame because the system was great and it was ignored.

All I truly care about is more Nintendo software at the end of the day. Their systems are less about breaking the mold now and are just delivering improved graphics like everyone else.

Don't really understand the question. Way too early to know if switch 2 will be a huge success or not. The sales numbers are basically meaningless this early and is really dependent on how much can be manufactured (which Nintendo is killing it right now with).

But to see if it has legs or is as successful as switch 1 is really anyone's guess. Hell, iirc MS was announcing on certain months that they were outselling PS5 in the first year or so of launch. And not even 5 years later, not only is that console dead, but nearly the entire ecosystem

The thread title clearly says Successful Launch… But it looks like that also hurts some feelings here 🤣

Bit annoyed it's done so well to be honest. Less profile = less dickheads on here lashing out and trying too hard to mask their pain.

Just to be clear, I'm not a professional 'quote maker'. I'm just an gaymer teenager who greatly values his intelligence and scientific fact over any silly console that released 3,500 years ago. This being said, I am open to any and all criticism.

'In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony Sony blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my Nintendo.'

It's no surprise the sales are brisk. No doubt many many millions of people are eager to upgrade to the new Switch. I am one as well, I just am waiting for a major AAA single-player release to drive me to do it. Nothing currently announced is getting me there.

Maybe once Metroid has a release date? Otherwise I'm fine to keep waiting.

Man shut the fuck up you demented bear fucker

The industry needs this good type of success. It is also helpful to the economy. And Nintendo is a great example of remaining with there principle of having exclusives not being ported to other platform especially PC, which increases console sales and fans.

Love the console. MKWorld is fun.
But man - thats it, one game really. So as a console launch as a whole i think its terrible. However, im glad i own it and look forward to more 1st party releases staring with Bonanza

I'm not megamalomaniac enough to think that because i personally don't like the console, it doesn't deserve success.

Good for nintendo even if i don't like the route they took in the after gamecube era.

I'm a complete bystander here, but I have to say I'm not a fan that it's doing so well after all of the recent anti-consumer moves by Nintendo. Just another case where the gamers have a very short memory or just don't care as long as they can play their favorite IP's.

I'm very pleased with the success so far. That $500 got me the system, Mario Kart and darn near my entire Switch 1 library got upgraded. That was far more than I expected. Some of these old games feel brand new with the smoother frame rates and higher resolutions. If they do well their employees carry on and can continue making what I want.

Happens every single time with Pokemon…

Waiting on news for a destiny 2 port…. New shit coming soon great time to do the port

I was really looking forward to the release since S1 was my main, or rather only, console. But the local pricing here killed all the excitement for me. And now they've even raised the price of old S1 games to new ludicrous heights. They can fuck right off for all I care, and I'm sad to see this greed doing well. At least for now.

But hey, the market decides and for now they've chosen. Even I pre-ordered and got one, but it's going right back. Didn't even unpack it.

I voted the second option but my feelings are a bit more complicated than it, I mostly bought one because the bundle was the best value for Mario Kart and Nintendo said they'll discontinue the bundle

otherwise the only reason I got it at launch was to play things like Pokémon Scarlet & the Xenoblade series among other games via BC with actual good performance, I guess I trust Nintendo to put out more great games to justify it? also with the way the economy has been it's not like there will be a price drop (and the Switch 1 NEVER did either even before the mess of the last 5 years)

Are you convinced the successful launch is successful or are you still not sure? And if the latter to what degree are you not sure?

I'm just annoyed I still can't simply order one online. Especially since I registered at the Nintendo online store minutes after the Apr 2 Direct.

It doesn't affect me tho I did skip the launch, I'll get it when there are more games for it. Mario Kart has never been able to hold my attention for long. Aside from the GOAT double dash.

Same with Diablo 4/Last Epoc/POE2 (lol...never). I put A LOT of hours into D3 on the switch and I would dip a 5th time on switch 2 for D4.

Will see what they do!

(Update begging: also MH Wilds (or a Rise upgrade for S2) would be welcomed (any updates to older titles would be welcomed tbh).

I spend enough time in online spaces to know there's a wide market for childrens games that have zero interest to me, but many adults seem to enjoy.

To each their own. It was expected. I won't ever understand the appeal, but Nintendo will always sell well as long as this base exists.

I'm sure the system will do well as long as your expectations are in line with how Nintendo operates, most should be pleased with the system through its generation.

(also: im nearing my 50's, im an old ancient fart who could not care less for mario kart - a game enjoyed best with friends, and all my friends are dead. )

Jesus Christ, this is easily the saddest thing I've ever read on GAF.

Seriously though, I turn 41 next week. Getting old sucks. I feel for you man.

I never understand this concept of Nintendo games being children's games. Ultimately, imo, all games are just toys/children's games. Some have "mature" stories and often are lame as hell for it, some are violent, some are not.
Some games, like some novels and films, are good for everyone, like Nintendo games, like Hollow Knight or Cuphead, like The Hobbit, ET, etc.
A good game is a good game.

Everybody bitching about there not being enough first party games when there's a AAA 3D platformer from Nintendo less than five weeks away here...

They spread these things out for a reason. They say "Hey, games are expensive now, sure hardcore Nintendo fans will buy Mario Kart AND Donkey Kong day one, but the average consumer will make a choice between one or the other, and many of them will then never buy the other one. But if we release one at launch and one six weeks later, that average consumer is exponentially more likely to buy BOTH."

It's not rocket science, people.

IMO most "mature" games (or content in general) are created from a very teenager POV, like "adults do sex, and curse and alcohol, yeah, and they smoke, yeah yeah, let's break some heads we are no children anymore let's do violent things, yeah yeah it's so cool"... lmao.

Want an actual adult story that doesn't have to fake "mature" with low hanging fruit "adult" elements? Yakuza 0, for example, is about the mafia wanting to rebuild the town into a new entertainment center and they can't just throw everything down because there's a small lot that nobody knows who's the owner and it's the cause all tragedies between Yakuzas killing each other for the right of controlling that project ownership or something among those lines (I played it a while ago), this is a type of story that isn't meant for teenagers or children not because it has sex and shit like that but because it's a complex subject mostly adults can relate too or understand. Same for old comic strips like Dilbert, actual adult content doesn't require sex and alcohol and violence, etc. to be adult, in fact, I associate those elements with edgy teenager that's far away from growing the fuck up yet but wants to "proof himself" to be an adult lol.

And that's fine. To each their own. I like the more mature tones of The Witcher, CyberPunk, Clair Obscur, The Last of Us, etc. type stories. You don't get those with Nintendo games.

If I'm playing an open world racer, I prefer a more realistic setting. Forza appeals to this. MK cartoon does not.

I want complexity in my RPGs. Nintendo doesn't offer this.

This is all fine, by the way. It's very child appropriate. It just doesn't appeal to me as an adult.

100% agree.
Saying good games like Zelda and Mario are for kids and unappealing because you want edgy adult games is about as childish as you can be.
Looking forward to playing Clare Obscur at some point
