And that's fine. To each their own. I like the more mature tones of The Witcher, CyberPunk, Clair Obscur, The Last of Us, etc. type stories. You don't get those with Nintendo games.

If I'm playing an open world racer, I prefer a more realistic setting. Forza appeals to this. MK cartoon does not.

I want complexity in my RPGs. Nintendo doesn't offer this.

This is all fine, by the way. It's very child appropriate. It just doesn't appeal to me as an adult.
I get it, to a degree for sure. I like them all. I tend to appreciate gameplay over story now in my old age. I loved Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, and love RPGs (and last of us 1), but I think pure games like hollow knight and Zelda and Mario are essential. To each their own.

But a 3D Mario is needed imo. Odyssey released 8 years ago.

This is the first Nintendo console that I have zero interest in. And I've owned them all.

I'm either getting old, or everyone else is just a retarded no-brain consumer. It is probably the latter.

I spend enough time in online spaces to know there's a wide market for childrens games that have zero interest to me, but many adults seem to enjoy.
Yep next to zero interest for me in PS/XBox games for that reason.

MKW is a working man's game. No teen angst. No cutscenes. No 2nd career needed. Good with kids or wife or beers with buds.

Good for Nintendo. It's not "deserved" right now but the games are coming for sure, the Switch 1 had an amazing input throughout his life and I'm expecting the same for the Switch 2. So not really deserved as the lineup is weak imo, but it's still not a bad purchase by any means if you are a fan of videogames and/or Nintendo.

100% agree.
Saying good games like Zelda and Mario are for kids and unappealing because you want edgy adult games is about as childish as you can be.
Looking forward to playing Clare Obscur at some point
Oh buddy, that's an actual story that mostly adults can fully understand for sure haha

I bought one for the kids as a switch 1 upgrade and had tepid interest.
Now that I have one, it's fucking great. Every switch 1 game runs much better, some dramatically so, and ports like SF6 are tremendous. It's a great system with a great future imo

450$ handheld with 80$ games don't sit right with me. Specially when there are already reports of it having the same issues the previous one had( shitty dpad, drifting sticks).

Let's how it goes from there.

It's good fun with the kids, sure, but my oldest is a teenager now. They also don't like childrens games.

It's been a great launch. The new hardware is great, we've got kario kart now and then metroid is on the way later, plus they've been giving us some splatoon stuff this week. Nintendo fans are eating good

Loving mine, but I can understand if a Nintendo isn't for everyone.

Enjoying mario kart a lot. Hadn't played one a lot since Mario Kart DS(and SNES before)

You know, at one point I'd have said there's no reason to pick one up now. The new Mario Kart looks cool but hardly worth $500, just wait until there's a few more cool games and then get one.
But we are now in the era where consoles go up in price over time, instead of down. So I can't really blame anyone for securing theirs early. If you are just going to pay $450 or possibly more in the future, you might as well enjoy the console from the start.

Personally I have zero interest in one though.

The real working man plays MKW.

Change working man to "family man that wants to play a family game with small children" then sure. Everything is bright and colorful. Great for small kids.

I play with my kids, but they're into V-Rising, R.E.P.O, Phasmophobia, Lethal Company, etc.

No the working man doesn't have time for a 2nd career in gaming. MKW is thus a working man's game.

The kid games are those you mentioned. Shit a working man has no time to learn about. The stuff the working man played as a kid.

No surprised that it sold well: no new consoles on the horizon and it is Nintendo. Just one of them will buy the equivalent of 25 PlayStation players (Xbox doesnt have anyone, that why I dont count them). I did thought there were going to be more of a fuzz, like there are people playing it and all, but I thought it would be like... an ocean of news and people talking about it. Before the announcement everyone was talking about the rumors, the possibilities and everything.

Anyways, if people enjoy it fine, but I dont know if it will stand the next generation on the next couple of years. If Sony and M... if Sony plays its cards well (i would say, 70/30 it wont) it can blow the Switch 2 out of the water.

But we will see, so far I personally dont think Im missing something great like the Switch 1 or the Steamdeck.

What slave labor job do you work where you have no time to read a tooltip?

They're not. All of them you can hop and play for as little or as long as you like.

They're not like WoW where you need to dedicate (for PvE, at least) hours of your day just to progress.
Yeah I played games like those as a kid. Just like your kid. Good kid games.

I'm a complete bystander here, but I have to say I'm not a fan that it's doing so well after all of the recent anti-consumer moves by Nintendo. Just another case where the gamers have a very short memory or just don't care as long as they can play their favorite IP's.
Isn't that what it should ultimately be about? None of the other nonsense or bullshit matters, what matters is the games. Nintendo is bringing great games in beloved IPs, that can be played nowhere else, and so they can tank just about anything else.

That's how it should be.

This is the first Nintendo console that I have zero interest in. And I've owned them all.

Bro this is literally the Simpsons children who are wrong meme

It was just as expected Nintendo hit it out of thr park with the original Switch. Now they have simply passed the torch to the new improved model. Why some were surprised by abny of this remains a mystery however. Launching with their biggest selling game shoud have been a clue.

i think Nintendo can continue to make subpar hardware ( in comparison with Sony and Microsoft ) and get way with it forever, Nintendo fans literally buy into anything, at the end of the day it was a great success for Nintendo, they for sure are happy.

for me ? It ll change nothing, great release, fans are happy, ll probably get one down the road.
Why didn't the Wii U sell 3.5 million at launch?
It is successful despite Nintendo not allowing the device to be reviewed which was really shitty. Post-launch reviews have been mostly positive from what I've seen so Nintendo's paranoia was unwarranted. I think I would be more willing to say it is "deserved" if Nintendo was more transparent.

Exactly how I am. Switch 1 wasn't a good experience for me. Swith 2 is night and day. A bit more clarity and 60fps makes a massive difference.
There was some sort of Day 1 patch, so I think Nintendo didn't want anyone doing reviews until the patch was done. Really curious what that patch did

People do have different opinions and tastes, but it's inaccurate to try and pin different tastes to certain age groups.

When my Dad plays Tetris or Professor Layton or Brain Training, he's not thinking "the lack of a realistic setting doesn't appeal to me as an adult".

Likewise when my aunt played Wii Fit or when my partner plays Pikmin they aren't thinking "the lack of mature themes doesn't appeal to me as an adult".

These preferences aren't tied to age.

No, just no point going back and forth with someone who thinks a colorful E for everyone game isn't designed for kids. It's not a rational discussion.
I accept your submission and sorry for offending you. I realize you find it impossible to not equate MKW's graphics with a kid's game. And that is the only thing that determines whether or not it's a kid's game to you. The superb level of polish mean nothing. The lack of bullshit and time wasting means nothing. The world class animation means nothing. The world class controls mean nothing. The pick up and play don't need a 2nd career means nothing. The competitive fun of vs matches mean nothing. And so forth and so on.

Good luck in your next match.

PS. Don't forget to tell your kid those 4 games are fine kid games. And when he's ready to come to a real game that the working man can appreciate he's welcome anytime.

Nintendo could have released versions with the patch for review if they wanted to, even if it was just in beta.

I don't get how can any one actively sad about Switch 2 selling well.

If you don't care for it that's fine but actively hate on it?…why?

Its deserved, based on Nintendo Switch 1 good will alone - not fully convinced but I trust Nintendo

I'm basing my thought on Nintendo's past launch. I don't remember a single launch from them where there was like more than one or two good inhouse titles. This times they have backward compatibility and graphic and performances update to help them a little, but I hope the next ND is not too far from now.

What a shit fucking take. "doesn't appeal to me as an adult"? "It's very child appropriate"??? I'm a 45 year old man. Been playing Nintendo all of my life. I love gaming. But to say Nintendo is "child appropriate" is a joke, surely?! They just released Emio- The Smiling Man on Switch!

Complexity in RPG's?! Obviously Nintendo didn't release the RPG series Xenoblade Chronicles...

Everyone likes and dislikes what they like. No issues from me whatsoever. But to lump in Nintendo with being "child appropriate" is bullshit.

If it was ready in time. Nintendo's explanation was that "important features and updates" will only be available via a system update on the day of the console's official release, on June 5.

Its not deserved or undeserved. I think its short sighted to look at launch numbers to determine if something will be successful long term. I'm sure the Wii U performed great at launch too.

Believe me, I want Mario Kart. However, I keep thinking about the price of the console and games along with the uncertainty of the economy. Do I really want to spend the money right now? Especially when there are so many other games to play in my Steam Deck? I am not the only one thinking like this. I think how they're pricing things are going to catch up to them sooner than later.

Plus Nintendo has really been pushing things with their legal department and how they treat fans. So while the IPs are desirable the Nintendo ecosystem is not at all appealing to me. Do I really want to drop hundreds or thousands into a library Nintendo can revoke access to for any dumbass reason? No, I don't. Plus I haven't forgotten how they rendered my virtual console library useless. If I do end up buying a Switch 2 I'm going to buy the bare minimum because I don't trust Nintendo. You're going to lose access one way or another.

I try not to sweat the small stuff. If they put out a game I want to play I buy it.

Given Nintendo's range of fun, coop, hardware and gameplay risks over the generations I far prefer Nintendo out front than Sony or Microsoft.

That's the official line, yes. I think a degree of transparency and allowing independent evaluation for a console is important prior to launch. Whatever the reason, they skipped it. If I'm going to say how I "feel" about the launch then that's a part of it.
