yes, I acknowledged that I have a lot left to see in Europe :)

and nice picture. Not as nice as the chicago lakefront skyline, but nice.

I liked Chicago. London is fantastically ugly IMO, so yeah. I liked Seattle too.

But my point was more that you can live in Europe (London) and still find the diversity you find in US cities.

I fucking love England. There are certain things which are just brilliant about the country, there's a lot of things which I am proud of. I know it doesnlt make sense for me to be proud of coming from the same country as the likes of Newton, Darwin, Shakespeare, Rowling, Dickens etc. I don't even like The Beatles, but I'm proud of the influence they've had on entertainment culture for the last 40+ years.

I love the variety of food I can find within 10 minutes. I love the array of cultures and races I can bump into on my high street. I love driving through the countryside. I appreciate our legal system for getting it right 99% of the time, and I love the country-wide knowledge that 99% still isn't enough. I love the fact that we have no death penalty, or 3-strike rule. I love that football is our national game. I love the ideals behind our political systems, even if I don't like most of the people within it.

I love the NHS. I love the England team in all sports, even though the football team is full of people I don't like for 11 months of the year. I was ecstatic when we found out we were hosting the Olympics, even though it'll cost us a shitload of money. I was devestated when we recieved barely any votes to host the 2018 World Cup. I love the National Trust. I love the RSPCA. I love the fact that we have days dedicated to Children in Need and Comic Relief. I love the fact that I'm completely free to worship whatever God I choose. I love the fact that I'm free to worship nothing.

I love that my forefathers had a role in both World Wars, and I'm damn proud to say that we fought Fascism with every ounce of the country's strength. I love the BBC, and fuck you if you want rid of it. I love regional accents, even if a few of them are a bit annoying. I love the way that the British (English at least) love complaining about everything, but will defend the country to the hilt if a foreigner criticises the place (vaguely racist as that sounds) I love the way that we embrace certain parts of other cultures without suffocating the unique feeling of Englishness that you get when walking around a village.

I absolutely adore England. But I'm not so arrogant as to think that anybody should be jealous of us.

Tips non existent hat. Great post.

Why would anyone be jealous of England with your bad teeth, Liam Gallagher and lame monarchy.

There's a huge difference between football and handegg.

We have soccer.

I have to laugh at the people talking up England. The weather there is so shit it doesn't deserve to be on anybody's list. So much rain.....so many shades of grey. Also the most self-deprecating people in Europe. When I was there, I didn't meet a single English person who actually wanted to live there. Most of them couldn't believe I made the trip out and kept asking me why I even bothered.

Sorry if I seem a little negative. I come from an English family and we are all chronic whingers.

Just... perfect.

<3 England

We complain (it's the English way) but you're deluding yourself if you believe you'll have it much better anywhere else.

TBH I hate England the most, you guys have never been held appropriately accountable for your international colonialist wrongdoings. And still so smug.

Lol, that whole 'us' as if speaking through one voice and this exact topic title are first two reasons why I don't envy any 'American' (neither with any other specific citizenship).

That aside, I don't envy anyone living in the USA. Too many 'errors' and enough of the 'culture' could be imported anyway.

Is it our food? Americans eat like kings. Some may say that we're "fat", but eating is a sign of wealth, and as the wealthiest people in the world, it's ok for us to partake in the best foods.

Hahahahaha. This one is fucking priceless. I'm going to laugh my ass off for the rest of the day. If McDonalds and burger king are the best foods then my grilled chicken on the barbeque must be ambrosia. Americans are fat disgusting slobs, what the international community envies is the fact that the no matter how fat and unhealthy America gets, they don't seem to give two fucks about it. Gotta admire that kind of blissful ignorance.

This is as bad as people saying America is the greatest country in the world. Love when people say 'you guys' to a ton of people that weren't even alive when England oversaw many colonies.

I left the monarchy out on purpose. Fair enough, its nice to see a bit of pageantry every once in a while, but its farcical that they even exist in their current state in the 21st century imo

Being in the middle of nowhere will do that. Is Australian made booze cheap?

Thats just it. Aussie made booze isnt cheap either. To give you an example, a Coopers Pale Ale (locally made beer from South Australia) would cost me about $6 or $7 at most bars (unless its happy hour). I went to a bar in Whistler ski resort in Canada which happended to sell Coopers and it cost me $4. So they shipped the beer all the way to Canada and it was still cheaper. I felt kind of disgusted knowing this.

Its the taxes bro. We pay very high taxes on alcohol and cigarettes and to make matters worse, most aussies dont even know they are being ripped off.

Apparently decent clothes are either insanely expensive in Australia or just not there. No thanks

Fry and Laurie might as well be honorary Americans now.

Fry's america doc where he went around to all the states was awesome.

btw. I have to agree with Lewis Black here

America seems to be the only country in the world that keeps telling you (trough the media at least) that it's the greatest country in the world, so the backlash is only natural.

Gonna be honest here, of all the countries I've been to there were the hugest discrepancies in England when it comes to women. Some hella gorgeous girls in London and Birmingham but I love me some of that British pale complexion.
