Ferguson: Police Officer Kills 18yo Michael Brown; Protests/Riots Continue

What are the best streams to watch all of this unfold, for better or for worse?

I hope it remains calm and they don't lose it over this no matter the decision. It's not worth trying to destroy a city, possibly hurting and killing other people, or even destroying the property of others. Ugh.

CNN has George Zimmerman's lawyer on the air right now with Anderson Cooper, which is interesting to listen to, to say the least.

CNN said as of two hours officer Wilson had received no call from prosecutor's office.

He's not being prosecuted guys. No way. That dream is over.

That's actually more extreme than what timetokill was suggesting.

You're never going to successfully get a vote that says police must not carry a firearm. Police Unions will be all up in arms about how dangerous the profession is and how nobody is going to agree to fight crime without the ability to protect themselves at all times.

You're more likely to get a vote that police must confirm a deadly weapon before removing your firearm from the holster.

Some police would claim a salami is a deadly weapon if they could. You could set requirements to carry/use firearms that are strict.

If a community believes the police are a bigger danger than criminals, and I'm sure in Ferguson there are some who feel that way, then if they win a vote, they can run their town that way. This is why the biggest thing holding minorities back in America is not voting. Vote enough things change (or the elections get rigged, in which case protests/violence are necessary)

Nobody is going to get that vote man. That's just not the way politics work.

No police officer is going to agree to protect a community in this country without deadly weapons on them. So you'd just create a different potentially bigger problem, and the controversy surrounding it would actually set back the movement.

I'm watching CNN right now. They're actually doing a fairly decent job so far considering.

Yes I agree. A lot of times in the past I rolled my eyes at CNN. The current panel is making some legitimate, or I should say, sensible points. I agree that it's reckless to let this decision go in well into the night time.

-Easier said than done, but it's something to strive for
-100% agree.
-Will never happen.
-Will never happen strictly for budget reasons, but I'm in favor of it
-Again, not going to happen. While it's ridiculous that a report was not filed in this case, if every little instance requires a report, that's less time policing and more time pushing paper. This leads to more officers needing to be hired to cover for the same time/area that current officers do, leading to massive budget issues.

At a bare minimum surely there should be a mandatory report in any case involving the discharging of a weapon?

Ok, so it's almost certain he's not being prosecuted now. So this is going to be a dangerous night.

Stay safe anyone in GAF in the protest areas

Seems to me like they really want people to riot so they can justify use of force. Waiting until night? Sigh.

Yeah they should have did it in the middle of the day, I think they want people to start shit so they can say "see these animals don't derserve shit".

Welp, see you all next cold hard reminder thread.

I sure hope that people who are there to start shit for an agenda are outed and arrested before they start a riot that justifies the amazing level of militarized police brutality against american citizens and journalists that we are about to witness.

Yeah, seems that way. Why not have it during that day where people can be seen?
I hope this turns out well.

Emotions are high right now. I believe that many of the protesters are catching wind of the non-indictment and they may react angrily to the news. The way this whole situation has been handled is reckless.

Just getting out of work. What is the latest?

Decision was made much earlier in the day; as of two hours ago Ofc. Wilson has received no call from the prosecutor's office that he's being indicted. Announcement at 9:00

In other words, almost certainly he is not being indicted.

Your gut instinct about the situation was right. It seems. As of 2 hours ago. Wilson hasn't been ordered to jail. Which the presumption is, that he won't be.

*Sigh*

Thanks guys.

The weirdest part is that Labor actually said hockey, he actually just meant to dismiss white Americans. I'm surprised, since as a hockey fan, and as someone that was aware of the recent Vancouver hockey riots.... The involved a lot of, if not majority, Asian Canadians.

Well, I can't really fault you for your racism against white people given how the white hegemony treats everyone else, but if you actually look at *hockey* riots, you'll notice the majority of them are in Canada, and that people are prosecuted for them.

Stop spreading BS, please. The majority of protesters in the Vancouver riots were not asian. More than a hundred were arrested, not even close to the amount that participated in the riots. There was more violence in the vancouver riots alone in a single day than the several days in ferguson.

The police treated those in vancouver way differently compared to the ferguson protests. VPD showed restraint.

I'm canadian. I witnessed both events.

If Wilson isn't indited, I can't wait for Obama's tired, flat, ho-hum, highly neutered "reflective" remarks on the outcome.

Of, if in the case riots do happen, put 100% of the blame on the protesters along w/ the other idiots who do the same, and then give the flat, tired, ho-hum, neutered "reflective" remarks.

Sounds accurate.

Yeah, I didn't even realize it. Delaying the announcement until nightfall does not make sense from a public safety standpoint.

UNLESS.....

Which is bullshit.

This whole thing has been bungled from day one. If there was a misstep to be made, they've found a way to make it worse.

Yep.
